Chapter 8 - Beer Hall Riot (1)

January 1923,

France and Belgium occupied the Ruhr industrial region of Germany to enforce the reparations stipulated in the Treaty of Versailles.

Under strict government orders, the National Guard could only watch helplessly as the Franco-Belgian forces crossed the border and advanced into the Ruhr.

Thanks to this, France and Belgium were able to occupy the Ruhr, the heart of German industry, without shedding a drop of blood.

The occupation of the Ruhr shocked and humiliated all Germans, regardless of right or left.

Germans in the Ruhr attempted to resist the occupying forces through sabotage and guerrilla activities, but the occupying forces responded by arresting hundreds of Germans involved in the sabotage and shooting about 130 of them.

It was an unprecedented and absurd situation in which a foreign army entered their own country without permission, arrested their own citizens, and even executed them, but the Weimar government only responded with formal protests and incited strikes.

The German people were outraged by the government's incompetence, and Hitler planned to use that outrage to seize power.

The so-called Munich Uprising.

Another word for beer hall riot.

Hitler's plan, mimicking Mussolini's March on Rome a year earlier, was to seize control of the Bavarian state government, then march on Berlin with his storm troopers and supporters, where he would gain popular support and seize power.

As you can see from reading the text above, this is a plan so flimsy that even an elementary school student would come up with it.

Unlike Mussolini's National Fascist Party, Hitler and the Nazi Party were just one of many right-wing parties in Germany, and even then they were active only in Bavaria and had little connection to other regions.

Not only was public support low, but public interest was also low.

Above all, the Nazi Party did not have the military force absolutely necessary for a coup.

At this time, the Nazi Party's strength consisted of 10,000 party members and several hundred storm troopers armed with pistols, clubs, and the like.

Even though the National Guard was limited in size and armament by the Treaty of Versailles, it was more than capable of easily suppressing even a crude militia like the assault brigade.

It was such a crude plan that it would be a waste of time to explain it any further, but Hitler must have been convinced that it was a plausible plan, so he put it into practice and ended up failing miserably.

I intend to repeat Hitler's disastrous mistake.

8:00 PM, November 8, 1923

The rally was held in the beer hall of the Bürgerbräukeller in Munich.

The rally was attended by many prominent figures from Munich and Bavaria, including Bavarian Governor Gustav Ritter von Karr, Bavarian Police Chief Hans Ritter von Seyser, and Reichswehr General Otto von Rossow.

"Your Majesty, Your Majesty."

Emil Maurice and Julius Schreck, who had gone on a scouting expedition, returned.

"Speak."

"All three of them, Karwa, Zayser, and Rosov, have been confirmed."

"I see. Good work."

As for Maurice and Schreck, both were Hitler's drivers and close associates, and were involved in establishing the SS with Himmler. They both had toothbrush-shaped mustaches like Hitler.

Unlike Maurice, who was a handsome man with a slender face and sharp jawline, Schreck's face was so similar to Hitler's that he seemed like he might be his brother.

Schreck died of meningitis in 1936, but Maurice survived the war and died in 1972.

...The conversation took a detour for a moment. Anyway, after completing all preparations, we looked at each other and pledged to the success of our "revolution."

"Are you ready, Your Majesty?"

"of course."

Also present was former German Imperial Army General Erich Ludendorff.

He is a famous general who teamed up with Hindenburg to give the Russian army unforgettable memories at Tannenberg, and he is also a person who participated in the Beer Hall Putsch in real history.

Although he was only a figurehead, it is said that Hitler treated Ludendorff with respect because he was a famous general known throughout Germany.

After completing all preparations, I took out my Luger P08 pistol.

This cool, heavy feeling. It's been a while.

"Okay, let's go."

8:30.

"What the heck are they doing now!"

Kar looked visibly flustered when he saw the stormtroopers suddenly appearing in the beer hall.

"Can't you tell just by looking?"

"What on earth······."

I looked around at the surrounding assault team members and said.

"They are attempting a revolution."

"Revolution? What nonsense—"

"everyone!"

I ignored Kar's protests and ascended the podium. The sudden turn of events caught the attention of the bewildered rally attendees, who all turned to me.

I immediately raised my pistol and pulled the trigger, aiming it at the air. The heavy gunshot echoed through the beer hall like a lion's roar.

"From this moment on, I declare that the revolution has begun!"

The assault team members roared in unison. The windbreakers who had been placed among the attendees also took advantage of the moment to join in, roaring and urging the crowd to respond.

"The current government is a parasitic bunch, eating away at Germany. When the French army arbitrarily occupied our territory and murdered our people, the government just stood by and watched. How can a government do that?

Will you live your whole life as slaves, or will you join me in the revolution and change this rotten world?

If we all work together, nothing is impossible! Now is the time for everyone to rise up!

Let's go, people! Let's march on Berlin, drive out the traitors, and establish a true government for the German people! We will never be defeated!"

After declaring the dissolution of the Bavarian state government and the establishment of a new government, I took the trio of Karr, Seiser, and Rosoff into a small room inside the beer hall.

Although they were inevitably dragged along due to the eyes of the assault team members, the trio showed a stubborn attitude and resisted.

"Are you all in your right mind right now? Do you think you can get away with something like this?"

"Stop this nonsense and let us go right now! If you let us go right now, we'll pretend this never happened."

"Gentlemen, there seems to be some misunderstanding. Not only I, but His Excellency Ludendorff also plans to participate in the revolution."

"His Excellency Ludendorff?"

When Ludendorff's name was mentioned, the eyes of the trio shook.

You wouldn't have expected that the famous war hero would be with a minor political party leader like Naburangi.

"We don't ask much of you. Just tell people you agree with us. It's that simple."

It was easier said than done. The three of them, who knew they would be held accountable for doing something like that, looked dumbfounded.

But the law is far away, and the gun in front of you is close. If you keep pushing, you never know what this idiot in front of you might do...

What should we do? The trio faced each other, but no suitable solution came to mind.

Pride or life? Choose one and you'll lose the other forever.

"We don't have much time left. Please give us a definitive answer quickly."

"······I understand. I will join your cause."

In the end, it was life that won out over pride.

"This is a wise choice. We sincerely appreciate your cooperation."

I bowed my head politely to them and left the room.

"What happened?"

Goering, wearing a Stahlhelm and holding a Mauser C96 pistol in his hand, approached and whispered.

"What the heck? He said he would cooperate with us."

"It was a success!"

Soon, the three men came up to the stage with gloomy faces and briefly declared that they would join the revolution.

Anyone could see that it was a declaration made by someone else, not by one's own free will, but that alone was enough.

Whatever the reason, we got the 'consent' of the Bavarian government.

Following the trio, Ludendorff took the stage and gave a short speech in support of the revolution and that he would join the new government.

As thunderous applause filled the beer hall, I returned to the stage with a beer glass in hand.

Then, I downed the stout in my glass in one gulp. As the cold beer went down my throat, I quickly became tipsy.

The empty beer glass was thrown to the floor and shattered into pieces.

"We will definitely win. Sieg Heil (Long live victory)!"

"Zeke Heil!"

At the same time, a stormtrooper unit led by Röhm attacked key government offices in Munich.

Rom informed me that they had captured the police station, the National Guard headquarters, and the barracks without any damage. I could see Rom's smiling face on the other end of the line.

-Success, success! It's so easy it's almost discouraging!

"Oh, I see. Thank you for your hard work, Rhyme. Please continue to take care of me."

-Don't worry, just hold on tight. As long as I have this body, there can be no failure.

Yeah, no.

Satisfied that everything was in accordance with the course of events in my memory, I left the beer hall with my entourage to support another assault unit.

He didn't forget to let the three men go home and say hello to their wives.

***

"Hitler, you idiot."

The three men, now free again, laughed heartily at Hitler's incompetence in freeing them.

"That's why those uneducated people can't be helped. They let us go without a second thought. How pathetic."

"That's what I mean."

The three men returned to their respective residences and immediately issued an order to their subordinate units to mobilize.

"Let's go!"

"Everyone, get your gear ready!"

"All aboard! No more dawdling!"

The National Guard soldiers, who received the order to mobilize, headed toward the government office occupied by the assault force.

The assault force, which was counterattacked by the National Guard, had to retreat in a hurry without even being able to put up a proper fight.

After a while of commotion, morning came.
