Chapter 11 - The Gacha System: 1

Seoyeon stirred the coffee in his mug—yawning—after having just woken up. He checked his phone,

[8:22 AM]

Then, he opened his interface, looking up at his information.

[Level 11]

"I've unlocked the gacha system now…" He said to himself as he took a sip of the coffee—a strong aroma wafted through the air as it warmed his body, waking him up further.

Seoyeon put the empty mug down after finishing his drink, opening his wardrobe and reaching for the black longcoat he had bought yesterday, putting it on as it fit naturally to his body.

He smiled as he looked at himself in the mirror, fidgeting around with the clothes,

"Now that I'm looking at it, it looks great." Seoyeon said to himself,

*Cling* The keys made a distinct sound as he locked his apartment door and headed down the stairs.

Seoyeon checked his phone, no new notifications appeared, he bowed upon seeing the receptionist at the front desk as he headed out of the door.

A bright, warm sun greeted him as he called for a taxi, raising his arm up. Soon, a car pulled up next to him as he headed in, "I want to go to Aleunyr City please."

The taxi driver nodded, fixing his black cap and stepping on the gas pedal as the car screeched to life, driving through Laures City's main highway.

Then, the taxi took a turn, heading up an elevated road, as Seoyeon looked out to see the once tall buildings now beneath him. He turned his head forwards, as he saw a sign above the road,

"To Aleunyr City | 20 KM"

He closed his eyes, feeling the tiny vibrations of the car, and hearing the occasional honking and passing by of other vehicles on the road.

Seoyeon remembered something he had obtained from the fight he had with the orc champion, a new skill.

The interface glimmered under the sunlight seeping into the car,

[Abyssal Chains]

[Details:]

[Rank: A-Class]

[Description: A reward for the unique usage of to immobilize enemies, summons chains of abyssal energy to lock onto enemies.]

A smile formed on his face,

"I can work with this, yeah."

Soon, the taxi had completely left Laures City as it passed by tall trees, vast plains, and foggy coasts.

Turns on the road led them across treacherous ways, through tunnels, across cliffs and hills.

"I forgot how annoying the road was between Laures and Aleunyr, despite only being 20 kilometers…"

Eventually, the taxi grinded to a halt as Seoyeon—who had his eyes closed for most of the trip—opened his eyes, rubbing his hands on them, as he saw a large city with a massive, neo-modern square in the center full of players.

He got out of the taxi and paid the driver the credits for the trip.

Seoyeon stepped into the city, walking down the sideways as rows of modern and futuristic store fronts appeared before him.

"Aleunyr City… One of the more modern-looking cities in the Republic of Ferausier. It is the location for one of many across Eioth."

"Gacha Stations… Withering Moon was special in that its gacha could only be performed in specific locations, Gacha Stations, where players could either request a public or private gacha pull. You can either find a Gacha Station out in the world or you can create your own in your base or a guild base…"

He continued to think as he walked down the sidewalk, cars passing by, and people all around talking with each other,

"In public gacha pulls, the pulled gacha character would appear right where you summoned them, most rich players used this to flex on poorer players. Meanwhile, private gacha pulls put you in a separate pocket dimension where you could summon your character. Afterwards, you and your newly summoned character would be brought back to where you were last in the real world, avoiding the unnecessary flare and theatrics that comes with pulling in the gacha system."

Then, a bright ray of light split the skies, glowing a bright gold as it separated the clouds and shone brighter than the sun for a moment.

Seoyeon chuckled arrogantly,

"An A-Class character… Interesting. I guess that's why they picked a public gacha pull." He said to himself.

Eventually, the square which he had seen from the taxi window earlier got closer and closer as he saw many players standing around with newly summoned characters.

There were some clad in blood-red armor, golden swords and chestplates, some wearing majestic and elegant clothing, others in shabby, disheveled clothes.

He sighed, putting his hands in his pocket and closing his eyes for a brief moment, before hearing some commotion near the center of the square as he took a quick glance.

"Woah! Sir! You've got to join our guild—"

"No! Don't listen to him, our guild provides so many opportunities—"

"Everyone, shut up! I'm a representative of the Baehyun Guild! Clearly, we're the best choice—"

The scurrying and yells caused a disorderly chaos at the center, annoying Seoyeon with a flurry of deafening shouts.

Then, the man in the center—with a powerful looking man behind him, clad in thick golden and white armor, and with a stern-looking helmet with intricate designs—smiled,

"Everyone! One at a time! The person behind me is an A-Class character, and I am his master! Now, I'm only accepting invites from guilds that are at least—"

Seoyeon sighed, turning around, being irked even more by the man's unreasonable demands,

"Does he think he's the best in the world just because he got an A-Class character?" He said with a smirk.

Seoyeon yawned, stretching his arms out, as the people all flocked and surrounded the man at the center, he walked away from the crowd.

"A single gacha pull of the lowest rarity has an extremely low chance of getting anything above an E-Class character… And it costs 1,500 credits and needs one Basic Resonance Orb or a Gacha Ticket."

Seoyeon scratched his head as he let out a deep breath, "Withering Moon's gacha is so damn exploitative… You need a Gacha Ticket or a Basic Resonance Orb to pull for any of the banners, with the lowest rarity banner being 1,500 credits…"

"Not only that, but Basic Resonance Orbs are stupidly difficult to obtain, and are really expensive at specialty stores and certain individuals that sell them… While Gacha Tickets are completely unobtainable aside from a free ticket every month, which equates to at least one pull every month for 1,500 credits…"

He sighed,

"Eh, I can't do anything about it." As he reached his hand out, waves and patterns started emerging and converging into his palm.

[Would you like to travel to a pocket dimension?]

[Yes]

A bright portal emerged with a flurry of wind as he went through, the portal closed behind him.

On the other side was a vast pocket dimension high in the clouds, with colossal marble pillars in the distance, as Seoyeon stood on a gigantic stone platform with similarly-designed pillars at the edges.

He extended his arm out and swiped his hand across with particles and visual effects forming a trail, following the movement of his hand.

[Please select a banner to pull from.]

Seoyeon exclaimed, "Beginner's Banner: 1,500 Credits" as his words echoed throughout the lonely, yet calming dimension.

[1,500 Credits deducted]

[1x Gacha Ticket spent, 0/1 Gacha Tickets remaining for this month]

A faint breeze blew his hair around as several glowing particles all converged into a comet which fell from the sky. Special, distinct sound effects washed across the realm as the comet impacted the ground, and a silhouette emerged from the dust.

However, Seoyeon realized something with the comet, it was green.

"...A D-Class character!?" He yelled out.

Seoyeon watched thoroughly as the silhouette walked, creating a heavy stepping sound on the stone platform, as he thought;

"Normally, this banner would only summon an F-Class or E-Class character… But a D-Class? They're really rare for this banner!"

Then, as the dust and debris settled…

A man with long red hair and a mature, handsome face walked out of the smoke, he wore clothes similar to that of royalty, a crimson overshirt and gray undershirt, with metallic linings, silver pauldrons, silver gloves, and silver boots, with a red eye color, and a beautiful sword strapped to his waist.

He looked stern and serious, his eyebrow twitched upon seeing Seoyeon, as Seoyeon briefly felt a powerful murderous intent coming from the man.

[ was activated]

Orange, glowing chains locked onto the man, emerging from singularities, rendering him immobilized, as he just barely reached Seoyeon, his sword extending out, barely grazing his hair as a powerful gust of wind knocked him back slightly.

"Y-you… Are you Laurente Silver?" He asked, clenching his fist onto his sword's hilt, and gritting his teeth, eyebrows furrowed, his long, red hair swaying in the breeze, as the chains only clamped onto his legs even more.

Seoyeon chuckled, "Phew, that was close…" As he turned to look at the man.

[ has been activated]

[Khairix Auvendale]

[D-Class]

A flurry of skills and stats appeared before Seoyeon, "I guess this is why he's a D-Class character, he's already pretty strong right from the get-go…"

"...But this… This is where his true power lies, huh?"

…He looked at a peculiar system message,

[Khairix Auvendale is an incomplete character, if a life-changing event happens, he may awaken to become even more powerful.]

Seoyeon shrugged it off and answered the question the man had asked,

"No, I'm Han Seoyeon, I don't know who Laurente Silver is…"

The chains were dispelled with a flick of Seoyeon's hand, as the man dropped to the ground, slowly standing up, and then putting his sword back into its scabbard.

"I know you aren't Laurente Silver, you do not look like the man my sister described, in fact, she didn't say Laurente Silver was a woman."

He bowed, "I'm sorry, miss. I acted out of place… Or should I say master?"

Seoyeon raised one of his eyebrows, "Huh? Miss? I'm a guy."

The man nodded, "Right. I apologize, master. You look like a woman."

"This guy's really blunt, I want to punch him right now." Seoyeon thought to himself.

The man looked around, "Where are we?" As Seoyeon crossed his arms, "We're in a pocket dimension, you were summoned here with the gacha system, do you know what those things are?"

He nodded as he turned to look back at Seoyeon, "Yes, master. My sister told me about them, I'm just not used to this."

Seoyeon sat down on the ground, as the man did the same afterwards following Seoyeon's gesture for him to sit.

"Firstly, who are you? Secondly, who is this Laurente Silver?" Seoyeon asked.

The man bowed his head momentarily, "I am Khairix Auvendale, you may call me Khairix. I am the head of the Auvendale family. I took over the family as its head when both of my parents died, making me and my sister the only remaining members of our clan."

"One day, I was simply taking care of my sister. I was 17 years old at the time, and my sister was 13… When she was suddenly summoned to the "Overworld." Me and the maids of my household looked around everywhere for her."

"1 week later, I had barely eaten or drank any food and water, my maids were worried sick for both me and my sister… When she suddenly knocked on the door to our manor once more…"

His face grew even more serious, "I remember that night… With the moonlight dimly illuminating my surroundings, I saw her body bruised and beaten, her face filled with tears as she hugged me firmly…"

"That man… Laurente Silver… He is a devil who must be banished from this world. He was the one who abused my sister, forced her to go through exploitative games of life and death, and venture into dungeons, when she wasn't even an adult yet…"

"My sister has a natural affinity for healing magic, while I was just barely good enough to call myself a swordsman, but I never would've expected her to come crying to me, as the maids woke up and were shocked to find my sister in my arms."

"Ever since then, I've been anticipating a call, a call from the Overworld, this world of yours, and to kill Laurente Silver, who had put my sister through so much torment."

"When you dodged my attack earlier, I didn't notice any form of familiarity in your eyes, if you were Laurente Silver or one of his partners, you would've immediately recognized my hair and eye color… And the clothes I'm wearing."

"...So I know you're not them, but how do I know you're not LIKE them?" He asked Seoyeon, his gaze piercing deep.

"Well…" Seoyeon stood up as he extended his arm out, gesturing for Khairix to grab his hand.

Khairix hesitantly reached his arm out to grasp Seoyeon's palm, clenching firmly.

"I promise that I'll help you get your revenge on Laurente Silver, Khairix." Seoyeon said, exuding such an unadulterated, visceral wrath, that even Khairix who stood taller than him, and larger than him felt intimidated.

Khairix smiled, "I trust you." Even though Seoyeon's wrath was pure, Khairix felt a sense of comfort and trust when he looked at Seoyeon, as if Seoyeon understood some part of his pain.

Seoyeon grabbed onto Khairix's hand as Khairix stood up, Seoyeon then let go and put his hands in his pocket as Khairix walked alongside him.

Seoyeon thought to himself,

"Many players in this game are disgusting… From perverted acts with the characters, to abusing them to make as much money and gain as much loot as possible…"

"A lot of my characters from Withering Moon as MinusXjun11 were obtained from raiding players like Laurente Silver… Players who abused them, so I can feel Khairix's pain in some way…" He said in his mind as he glanced at Khairix who now felt less stiff and slightly more comfortable.

Khairix then spoke up as he noticed Seoyeon looking at him,

"I still don't trust you fully… But I trust that you'll keep your promise, master." He said.

Seoyeon laughed,

"Don't call me master, just call me Seoyeon."

"I'll do whatever I want, master." Khairix replied wittingly as Seoyeon smiled.

"...But just know… I won't abuse you, but I won't let you slack off either."

Khairix nodded,

"I can understand that much, I see no benefit to slacking off…"

"After all… I'll be your sword."

Seoyeon opened a portal out of the pocket dimension as Khairix stood firm beside him, walking through—just behind Seoyeon.

"...If I am a sword, and you are my master… Then you are my swordmaster, Master Seoyeon."

"...But don't think that I will only blindly follow your orders, if I see a favorable situation, I will exploit it accordingly." Khairix said.

The two walked out of the portal as their hair fluttered in the breeze, Seoyeon's coat made rustling noises in the wind.

"I will follow your orders until I no longer see fit to follow them, Master Seoyeon…"

"The greatest sword needs no swordmaster…"

"...And the greatest swordmaster needs no sword."

"So prove to me that I am wrong, prove to me that I do need a master to command me… And I'll prove to you that you need a sword by your side." He continued, smiling faintly at Seoyeon.

Seoyeon smiled back,

"Alright…"

"Let's avenge your sister, Khairix."
