Looking up, he scanned the exposed stars.
Luo Yu furrowed his brows, one arm clamping Hu Liena while carrying Xie Yue and Xiao Wu, swiftly retreating, leaping and weaving between the branches of the forest at high speed.
"Boom!"
Behind them, a golden sea of fire exploded with a resounding blast. Black, malevolent energy splashed outward.
The Hellhound Demon, its body drenched in blood, revealed its form—only two heads remaining, the middle section in ruin. Yet the frenzy of its power had surged to the extreme, and with a ferocious roar, it charged after Luo Yu and the others, determined to devour them entirely.
Dark beams of magical energy shot out from behind, blocking their escape route, focusing their attacks relentlessly on Luo Yu. He tightly held Hu Liena as he jumped and dodged, choosing his path and accelerating toward the forest's edge.
Hu Liena felt the strong arm pressing against her waist, almost leaving her breathless. Her face flushed crimson as she grew dizzy from the jolting movements, her eyes lifting to catch a glimpse of the man's intensely focused profile—she was captivated.
Xie Yue, with the highest soul power among them and a descendant of the Spirit Hall, dodged the scattered attacks of the Hellhound Demon with some effort, but it wasn't a problem, following Luo Yu closely.
Xiao Wu, however, was growing exhausted during the escape. Being the weakest here, her soul power frail, she bit her red lips, glancing enviously at Hu Liena clamped to Luo Yu's waist.
Suddenly, a black beam shot from behind, and Xiao Wu scrambled to dodge—but the branch under her feet snapped, causing her body to falter. She was about to plummet from mid-air.
Hu Liena's startled cry cut through the air as Luo Yu pivoted and immediately saw Xiao Wu falling.
He knitted his brows. "Trouble."
"Whoosh!"
Muscles coiled, soul energy surged in his feet, and with a powerful stomp on a nearby tree, he leveraged the recoil to launch himself forward like a cannon, snatching Xiao Wu midair with his free arm.
Xiao Wu's beautiful eyes still reflected panic. She had feared the worst in that split second, not expecting the man's shadow to strike like thunder, arriving instantly.
Soft as jade in his embrace, Luo Yu felt his heart stir. Hu Liena carried an elegant yet bewitching aura, while Xiao Wu's delicate frame seemed almost boneless, her slender waist melting under his grip.
"Thank you." Xiao Wu's eyes were dazed, tinged with surprise.
"My apologies, ladies."
Luo Yu adjusted his arms, lifting both women over his shoulders in one motion. Their delicate torsos pressed against his solid shoulders, four shapely legs dangling in front of him.
"Ah!"
The momentum of the lift caused their lips to press against the man's back in the same instant, their sideways glances coincidentally meeting, both blushing.
"What's wrong?"
Hearing the ladies' exclamations, Luo Yu asked, but couldn't spare a glance behind— the Hellhound Demon stirred a gust of foul wind, still relentlessly pursuing.
Hu Liena and Xiao Wu exchanged a glance, silent and blushing.
Xiao Wu, with a soft, trembling voice, worried, "Carrying us won't slow you down, will it?"
"Shut up! Focus on recovering your strength."
Pouting, Xiao Wu attempted to resist, but feeling the man's firm, commanding tone, she opened her mouth then obediently fell silent. Her beautiful eyes held a faint grievance as her lips murmured, "With moves like that, how can I possibly recover?"
Hu Liena, quiet by contrast, followed Luo Yu's instructions.
The Hellhound Demon, frustrated from the failed pursuit, unleashed its innate power, growing black, fearsome spines along its back. Dark sparks glimmered as its speed surged again.
Despite carrying two women, Luo Yu's speed slightly surpassed Xie Yue. Xie Yue's breathing became uneven, showing signs of fatigue.
"Brother—"
Hu Liena anxiously glanced at her brother but stayed silent, sensing Luo Yu's body trembling from exhaustion and not wanting to distract him.
Luo Yu's chiseled features were tense, eyes fixed ahead, his left eye glinting with gold. Suddenly, he said, "Hu Liena, grab two pills from the pocket at my waist."
"Oh!"
Hu Liena, suspended on Luo Yu's back, had free hands and feet.
"Which pocket?"
"This one has two."
"The blue one."
Luo Yu replied swiftly. For convenience, he didn't store the medicinal pills in his treasure pouch but kept them separately.
"Got them."
"Throw one to your brother first."
Closing the distance to Xie Yue, Hu Liena tossed the pill, which he quickly swallowed, feeling his soul energy recover rapidly. He glanced gratefully at Luo Yu.
Without waiting, Hu Liena curled her delicate body and carefully fed a pill to Luo Yu. Her green-tinged fingers brushed his lips, warmth pulsing through him. She froze for a moment. Luo Yu instinctively closed his mouth, biting down gently.
"Ah!!" Hu Liena cried, pulling back her hand.
"You alright?" Luo Yu asked.
"I'm fine!"
Her finger marked by his bite, Hu Liena appeared pouting and plaintive, like a little wife, though Luo Yu hadn't seen her expression.
Thirty miles outside the Star Dou Forest, the land was barren, with standing stones scattered everywhere.
Luo Yu, still carrying the two women, stopped and glanced back at the forest. The Hellhound Demon howled in frustration, but did not continue its pursuit.
"Phew!"
Xie Yue exhaled heavily, collapsing onto the ground. "Finally rid of that beast."
Luo Yu shook his head. He could have unleashed his full power to destroy the three Hellhound Demons, but killing it would gain nothing and likely leave him injured. There was no need to waste effort on a beast.
Xiao Wu first slid off Luo Yu's back, her cheeks flushed.
"Smack!"
Luo Yu glanced sideways at the motionless, radiant Hu Liena and lightly smacked her hip with his palm.
"What are you doing?" Hu Liena exclaimed.
Luo Yu sighed. "We're here—why aren't you getting down?"
"Oh."
The girl's voice lost its strength as she carefully slid from his shoulders, showing faint reluctance.
