Chapter 15: "Welcome to the team"

The weekend flew by in a blur, and before River knew it, Monday morning had arrived. She woke up early, feeling a mix of excitement and nerves. Today was her first day at Apexor Tech, and she was determined to make a good impression. River got dressed in the outfit Lettie had helped her pick out at the mall – a pair of sleek black pants and a crisp white blouse. She paired it with a pair of comfortable black pumps and styled her hair neatly.

As she headed downstairs, her mom greeted her with a warm smile. "Good morning, sweetie! You're looking sharp. I'm so proud of you for taking this step. And speaking of new beginnings, how's Lettie doing? Doesn't she start at Apexor Meds today?"

River nodded, "Yeah, she's really nervous about it. But I'm sure she'll do great."

Her dad joined them in the kitchen, sipping his coffee. "Morning, kiddo. Ready for your first day? And Lettie's got a big day ahead of her too, huh?"

Just then, the phone rang. River's dad answered it, and his face broke into a smile. "Hey, Lettie! How's it going? We're just talking about you."

River and her mom exchanged a look, and River mouthed, "It's Lettie!"

Her dad listened for a moment, nodding and making supportive noises. "We're so proud of you, Lettie. You must be excited and nervous."

River and her mom chimed in, "Yeah, how's it going? Tell us everything!"

After a moment, River's dad said, "Okay, okay. We'll let you go. Just wanted to wish you all the best for your first day. You got this, kiddo!"

"Honey you should get going, you wouldn't want to be late on your first day",

River's mom said hugging River good bye.

As they drove to Apexor Tech, River couldn't help but feel a sense of awe. The building was a stunning piece of modern architecture, with sleek glass walls and a futuristic design. The company's logo, a stylized letter "A" made up of circuit boards, gleamed in the morning sun. The exterior walls were covered in a grid of LED lights that pulsed with a soft blue glow, giving the building a mesmerizing rhythm.

As they approached the entrance, River's dad gave her a reassuring pat on the shoulder and kissed her on her cheeks. "You got this, kiddo. Just be yourself and you'll do great."

River took a deep breath and nodded, feeling a surge of determination. She was ready to take on this new chapter in her life.

As she stepped out of the car, River's dad handed her a small bag with a sandwich and a bottle of water. "Good luck, kiddo! You're going to do great."

River smiled and waved goodbye as her dad drove off. She took a deep breath, feeling a sense of excitement and nervousness. She was finally here, at the world's best tech company.

As she walked into the office building, River was struck by the futuristic decor. The lobby was a vast, open space with a high ceiling and a floor made of polished white marble. The walls were adorned with massive screens displaying code and images, giving the space a dynamic, high-tech feel. The air was clean and fresh, with a hint of citrus scent.

The receptionist, a friendly woman with long, curly brown hair and bright hazel eyes, greeted River with a warm smile. She was wearing a sleek black blazer with a silver name tag that read "Samantha." Samantha glanced at the monitor in front of her and said, "Ah, River Bernard, welcome to Apexor Tech! We're glad to have you on board."

River's eyes widened in surprise. "Wow, how did you know my name?" she asked, impressed.

Samantha smiled. "Our system alerts me to incoming guests, and I like to stay ahead of the game. Let me get you your security card." She handed River a card with her attendance number, 2145, printed on it. "This will give you access to your personal computer room. It's located on the second floor, room 2145."

River took the card and smiled, feeling a sense of importance. "Thanks, Samantha. I appreciate it."

As she walked to the second floor, River couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement. The office was bustling with activity, with people typing away on their computers and chatting with their colleagues. The atmosphere was relaxed and focused, with a sense of camaraderie that made River feel right at home.

When she arrived at room 2145, a tall, imposing figure with a kind face and a warm smile was waiting for her. He was a middle-aged man with a receding hairline and a pair of wire-rimmed glasses perched on the end of his nose. He had a gentle demeanor and a way of making River feel at ease.

"Welcome, Miss Benard,I'm Dr Kim, your soon to be department head," Dr. Kim said, extending his hand. "We're glad to have you on board. I'll show you to your workstation and get you set up with everything you need."

"Thanks, Dr. Kim," River replied, shaking his hand. "I'm excited to get started."

Dr. Kim smiled. "Great attitude! We're looking forward to seeing what you'll accomplish."

River's workstation was a sleek, modern desk with a high-end computer and a large monitor. The desk was equipped with a comfortable ergonomic chair and a footrest, and there was a small plant on the corner of the desk that added a touch of warmth to the space.

"Welcome to your new home," Dr. Kim said, smiling. "You'll be working on two projects. The first project is to debug a piece of code that is causing errors in one of our flagship products. The second project is to design a new user interface for a upcoming product launch."

If you're able to complete both projects before the day ends, you'll qualify for the internship program and can start officially tomorrow," Dr. Kim explained.

"That sounds like a challenge, but I'm up for it," River replied, determination in her voice.

Dr. Kim smiled. "That's the spirit! I'm looking forward to seeing what you'll accomplish."

With that, River sat down at her desk and got to work. She was determined to complete both projects and qualify for the internship program.

As the day went on, River worked tirelessly, typing away on her laptop and solving problems. She was in her element, and the hours flew by.

Finally, as the sun began to set, River finished the last project. She took a deep breath, feeling a sense of pride and accomplishment.

Dr. Kim walked over to her desk, a smile on his face. "Miss Bernard, congratulations! You completed both projects in record time. You're officially part of the Apexor Tech team. You can start tomorrow."

River beamed with pride, feeling a sense of excitement and relief. She had done it. She had qualified for the internship program.

"Welcome to the team, Miss Bernard," Dr. Kim said, extending his hand. "We're looking forward to seeing what you'll accomplish."

River shook his hand, grinning from ear to ear. "Thanks, Dr. Kim. I'm excited to be here."And please no formality, just call me River.

"Ok, hoping to see you tomorrow River",Dr. Kim said.

As she left the office building, River felt a sense of pride and accomplishment. She had taken the first step towards a bright future, and she was eager to see what lay ahead.

She pulled out her phone and sent Lettie a text. "Hey, girl! I did it! I qualified for the internship program. Can't wait to tell you all about it."

Lettie responded almost immediately. "Yay! I also passed. I'm so proud of you! Can't wait to hear all about it. Let's catch up soon!"

River smiled, feeling grateful for her friend's support and her also being qualified. She couldn't wait to see what the future held for them.
