Chapter 21 - Scouting the Ambush Site

I couldn't just walk up to Liang Xu's stupid mansion without a plan; even in my desperation, I knew that would be total suicide. So, I spent the whole damn afternoon walking around the rich neighborhood, scoping out the area like I was some kind of pathetic movie spy. The house was enormous, set way back from the street, surrounded by these huge, ugly black iron gates and high walls that looked totally impossible to climb. It looked less like a home and more like a private prison designed to keep the rich bastards in and the poor scrubs like me out. The sheer display of wealth just fueled my cold anger even more.

I noticed a couple of things, though. First, there was a tiny, poorly lit spot right down the block from the main gate, mostly hidden behind a big hedge, where I could wait without being immediately seen by the security cameras. Second, and more importantly, I remembered that Liang Xu always drove his expensive car home from swim practice around nine o'clock every night, and he usually had to slow down right before the huge entrance gate to wait for it to swing open. That tiny moment was my only fucking chance to get his attention before he could speed past me and ignore my desperate pleas.

I realized this was the perfect ambush site: I would wait behind the hedge, let him drive right past, and then run out just before his car completely stopped at the gate. My plan was to block his damn car, force him to open the window, and then I would immediately start recording on my old phone. It was completely stupid, ridiculously dangerous, and totally illegal, but it was my final, desperate shot to make his parents hear me and finally stop the terrifying threats against my sister. I was calmer now, strangely focused, because I was running on pure adrenaline and that cold, hard resolve.

I looked at the spot one last time, feeling the night air turn suddenly cold. This wasn't about winning anymore; it was about forcing a confrontation, and I knew that once I started down this road, there was no turning back, no matter how bad the consequences would be. I was walking straight into the fire, and I knew that Liang Xu was going to be furious when he saw my face one last time.
