The city pulsed with Monday morning chaos. The city's streets were congested, and a dark cloud loomed, threatening to snuff out the sun's brightness. But the pedestrians remained undeterred, waiting to cross roads amidst the pending down pour.
A mother held her teenage son's hand, his eyes fixed on the sky. He looked wondering when the rain will drop and perhaps what will happen if it ever did, he wasn't with an umbrella and neither was his mother.
The first drop came straight for him, falling on his cheeks, he used his right hand to clear out the liquid and it's sensation. He looked again expecting another drop and inwardly plotting his route of escape to avoid it, if it ever falls seriously.
The traffic light dinged, signaling the pedestrians to cross over, his mother tugged at him telling him to stop stalling her movement. He wondered why she was holding him anyways, it's not as if he was a little boy he thought. The mother and son were moving across to the coffee shop at the other side to get their early morning cappuccinos.
Suddenly there was a crashing sound and the defeaning cries of numerous cars filled the air, the crashing sound was approaching.. A somersaulting trailer being it's messanger, it was heading for them fast. Fear froze the mother and her son, they couldn't move...not that moving would help them anyways. They were doomed none the less. The movement of the trailer was evidence of this because it cleared the cars on the road, crushing them to paste as it moved with great force and speed.
His mother squeezed his hands tightly and looked at him, tears streaming down her face. They were going to die, she knew it ...he knew it too and the other pedestrians knew it as they stood in the middle of the road.
The trailer was so big that it scrapped the buildings by the road side, he closed his eyes bracing himself for impact. The trailer was now a few feets away from them. In no time they will be crushed, a gust of heavy wind blew on the pedestrians..this was it, this was their death.
But it's now getting to a munite and he wasn't crushed yet, was death that slow?. It was quiet now too, there wasn't a single noise.... nothing. He opened his eyes and was met with an unnerving sight, it was the trailer the humongous agent of murder, a few centimetres from him and his mother suspended in action, on the air. It was so close that he could lick it from where he stood.
His mother stood, frozen she was no more Moving too,Perplexed, he tugged his mom's hand. She stood expressionless, her exhaustion and regret evident on her face, byt she couldn't move an inch..
'What's happening?' he muttered, looking around and noticed that the world had seemed to come to a stop and he was the only one moving. He unhanded his mother, freeing himself from her tight grip. He moved around the scene noticing the ways things had entirely came to a pause in the most ridiculous seen possible.
A woman who tried to run with her child on a stroller had her wig suspended on the air a few centimetres from her head, he smiled and went back to his mother and tried to push her away of danger but unfortunately his mother could NOT bulge. He tried and tried and tried putting his strength out but his mother unfortunately couldn't move.
'You can't change what is about to happen' A voice sounded behind him, he Shrieked and looked back to find a tall pale skinned man, the man was sporting a black shirt and military pants with a white boot, he also had sun shades on.
'Who are you?' he gasped stepping infront of his mother to shield her away from his view. The man scoffed and stepped closer towards him.
'Patrick, Time watcher' the man replied, revealing his name and occupation. But the boy didn't get it.
'A wierd last name to have ' he said, holding his mother tightly.
'It's not a Last name it is an occupation' Patrick said, his tone indicating his annoyance.
'Oh yeah? Well, what do Time watchers do? Watch time?' the boy said sarcastically, but he was right on the money.
'Exactly' Patrick replied, his face stern.
'So are you the one that did all this?' the boy asked after a few seconds of Silence.
'No, you did' Patrick replied sighing.
'Me?' the boy yelled surprised, unhanding his mother and glancing at his hands as if he was expecting magic to burst out of it.
'Yes you, Damian Mathews'
'How did you know my name?' the boy asked his voice dropping to signal his uncomfortability, he moved closer to his mother and held her tight.
'I know A lot of things about you boy..I know that if you don't move away from your mother in a few minutes from now, the trailer is going to crush you both and believe me you aren't going to die...guess why? Because you can't. But make no mistakes because it's going to hurt like hell...I also know that you will try to save your mother right now but guess what again? You can't it's already precedented that she's going to die you can't change the timeline....i also know that....' but he was cut off before he could get his other words out.
'STOP!' Damian yelled, he looked at his mother and looked back at Patrick.
'I don't want her to die' he said, tears streaming down his face ..
' She's the only one i got, Dad died last year and she is the only one remaining, why can't i save her? WHY CAN'T I SAVE HER?!' he added yelling the last word out, his pain evident in his tone.
'You simply can't buddie, it's the rule of time' Patrick replied softly.
Damian looked at his mother and tried pushing her again, this time he used his body instead of his hands. He pushed and pushed and pushef again, but his mother couldn't move.
'It's no use Damian, you are only hurting her more' he said, his voice drowning in the sounds of Damian's thuds colliding with his mother.
The trailer cranked, whatever kept the time to a stop was wearing off, the debris that materialsed from the dented buildings were now moving, falling on the floor. The man, Patrick noticing all this went to Damian and held him on his hands but Damian shrugged free and continued his attempts to save his mom.
'Damian, if we don't leave soon thay trailer would crush you' he said appealing to the stubborn kid.
'I will take my chances i don't care' said Damian as he kept pushing.
'Okay, have it your way then..you are in for a world of hurt' Patrick said raising up his two hands in defeat, he pulled out a leaf out of his pocket and blew on it, the patterns on the leaves stringed out and hovered in a circle forming a portal.
'I will leave it open incase you change your mind' he said and jumped into the bright light.
Damian stood looking at his mother, the trailer was now shaking profusely and the beeping of cars filled the air once more, through his peripheral view he saw a figure move within the pedestrians, he looked to see no one.
'Must have been a cat' he said and hugged his mother tightly, the trailer was now moving bit by bit meeting his mother's face, he heard her bones crush and as he hugged her crying in an instant the trailer moved quickly continuing with its previous speed, it crushed them to paste.
