Chapter 9 - 100 Zombies [3]

The distance between the classroom building and the auditorium was only a few dozen meters, but getting there was far from easy. The path was crawling with zombies, making every step dangerous and uncertain. Crossing it safely would take both courage and luck.

Ryu kept swinging his knife again and again, his movements sharp and precise. He looked like an unstoppable force, cutting through the horde without hesitation. The blue number floating in front of him kept rising higher with every kill, counting the lives he took.

On the way, Ryu managed to rescue five more students who had been cornered by zombies. That brought the total number of survivors following him to twenty-six.

Among them was a handsome young man who had once been the star of the school. Before the chaos, he was popular with everyone, eespecially the girls. He was also the vice president of the martial arts club and known for his athletic build and confidence.

Now, in this nightmare world, that confidence was gone. When Ryu found him, he was surrounded by more than a dozen zombies and looked ready to die. But before the monsters could reach him, Ryu appeared and cut them all down without hesitation.

After being saved, the young man immediately joined Ryu's group. Though proud, he knew he wouldn't last long alone. He decided to help however he could—blocking zombies that slipped past Ryu and protecting the students from behind.

Some other members of the martial arts club also joined in, forming a small defence team. They weren't as strong as Ryu, but they used their training to fight off the weaker zombies that approached from the sides.

Together, the group slowly pushed forward toward the auditorium, step by step, through the hellish corridor of blood and screams.

Swoosh!

Out of nowhere, a black shadow shot forward from a distance, moving at an incredible speed straight toward the group.

Ryu narrowed his eyes, following its movements carefully. His heart skipped for a moment, this zombie looked almost the same as the one he had fought in the mess hall earlier. The same twisted grin, the same sharp nails, and the same eerie aura surrounded it.

Ryu immediately prepared himself, gripping his large knife tightly, ready to attack. But before he could move, the creature suddenly swerved to the side, avoiding him completely, and rushed straight toward the handsome young man, Kyle.

However, his body trembled. He realised this wasn't an ordinary zombie. Its speed and agility were far beyond anything he could handle.

In a moment of sheer panic, Kyle made a cruel choice. He grabbed the girl standing beside him , the same girl he had been chatting with earlier, and threw her toward the charging monster.

Before anyone could react, the black shadow pierced its clawed hand through the girl's chest, pulling out her heart and biting into it.

Blood sprayed everywhere. The girl's eyes widened in disbelief and pain before she collapsed lifelessly to the ground.

Everyone stood frozen in horror. The gruesome scene shattered their courage completely. The survivors screamed in terror and began running in all directions, their panic spreading like wildfire.

Everyone started running in fear, screaming and pushing each other just to get away.

The zombie, covered in dark blood and moving in jerks, suddenly stopped. Its head twisted unnaturally, and its hollow eyes turned toward Ryu's side.

It had sensed something.

Something... delicious.

With a low growl, it dashed straight at him, faster than before, like it could smell the blood in his veins.

If that long jknife hadn't been with him, it would have been over. But no—Ryu wasn't the same helpless guy anymore.

He gripped the knife tight, his heart pounding. As the zombie lunged, he swung it with all his strength. The blade cut through the air with a sharp whoosh and sliced into the creature's shoulder.

Black blood splattered across his face. The zombie stumbled but didn't stop, it came again.

Ryu clenched his teeth, eyes burning. "Come on then…" he whispered. And this time, he fought back with everything he had.

Clang!

Sparks flew as Ryu's knife met the zombie's claws. Both of them moved so fast that their figures blurred and vanished, only to appear several meters apart in the next instant. From the crowd's point of view, all they could see was a faint silhouette of a human fighting that terrifying creature, and it was enough to shock them. Only now did they realise that Ryu wasn't ordinary.

Although Ryu didn't have much real combat experience, his raw strength and instincts filled that gap. Every move he made carried power and desperation.

But this zombie… it was different.

Stronger. Faster. Smarter.

That same creepy, plastered grin was stuck on its face, and somehow, it made Ryu's chest tighten, not with fear, but with a strange, unsettling feeling he couldn't explain.

He could follow its movements, barely, but the zombie was much faster than the previous ones he had fought. Still, his quick reflexes and raw force helped him keep up.

Thud! Crash!

Their weapons clashed again and again, breaking the silence of the cloud-covered day. The noise echoed through the nearby area, and soon, it attracted more zombies.

One by one, more of them crawled out from the shadows, drawn by the smell of life and the sound of panic. The people screamed and scattered in every direction, their cries mixing with the growls of the undead.

Ryu's grip tightened on the handle of his knife. He knew that if this continued, everyone would die. There was no other way.

Taking a deep breath, he steadied his stance, eyes locked on the grinning zombie.

He had to end this. Fast.

With renewed resolve, Ryu charged forward to finish the fight once and for all.

Ryu swung his knife, the blade cutting through the air with a sharp cutting sound.

whoosh!

The zombie dodged with unnatural speed and countered, its claws slashing toward his neck.

Clang!

Ryu barely blocked in time, the impact numbing his arm. The creature's strength was monstrous it felt like blocking a hammer with bare steel. He gritted his teeth, pushing back with all his might.

The zombie appeared again, its grin stretching wider, eyes glowing faintly red. Ryu ducked under its arm and slashed across its chest, but instead of retreating, it grabbed the blade with its bare hand, ignoring the cut.

Blood dripped from its fingers, yet the zombie didn't even flinch.

"Tch…" Ryu clicked his tongue, kicking it in the stomach and freeing his knife. He jumped back, panting lightly.

It was fast, too fast. And unlike the others, this one seemed to think.

The zombie let out a guttural growl and dashed again. Ryu twisted his body, narrowly avoiding its claw, and countered with a horizontal slash. The edge cut deep into the creature's shoulder, spraying black blood across the ground.

But it didn't stop.

It charged again, forcing Ryu to block repeatedly, each strike heavier than before. His knife vibrated with every impact, his hands trembling from the recoil.

Still, he refused to back down.

Step by step, he adjusted, his breathing steady, his eyes sharp. Every attack, every dodge, every block became smoother.

Finally, after a fierce exchange, he saw an opening.

With a burst of strength, Ryu kicked the zombie's leg, breaking its stance, and in that moment, he slashed diagonally across its neck.

Swish!

The zombie's head tilted, then rolled to the ground. Its body stumbled a few steps before collapsing with a heavy thud.

Ryu exhaled slowly, his chest rising and falling.

"Finally." Ry panting heavily turned his head to save the people from the hordes of zombies but he was shocked to what he witnessed

"N-no way...."
