Chapter 196 - Chapter 196: Taking the Initiative

Bitterbridge Camp, King's Camp.

Renly Baratheon, like his brother Robert I, loved luxury, or rather, he habitually imitated his brother.

His tent was larger than the hall of a typical inn and filled with various luxuries.

Renly, standing at the table, turned his head and, upon seeing the newcomer, was startled, his pupils immediately contracting.

He murmured, "Loras?"

The Knight of Flowers remained silent, slowly walking towards King Renly, who seemed frozen in place.

Candlelight flickered as the Knight of Flowers and Duke Renly stood face to face, silently for a long time.

King Renly's hand trembled as he gently caressed the Knight of Flowers' cheek, his expression gradually turning sorrowful.

His voice was gentle: "I miss Loras... Thank you, My Queen."

She softly said, "I would do anything for you, My King."

King Renly gazed at Margaery Tyrell, dressed as Loras. The siblings already bore a resemblance, and the joy that surged within him the moment he saw her was ineffable, but she was not him after all.

King Renly gently patted Margaery's small shoulder, his eyes filled with deep emotion, as if he was looking at someone else through Margaery.

After a long gaze, Renly turned his back to Margaery and said calmly, "Queen Margaery, I will keep my promise; you will always be My Queen."

Margaery's eyes trembled slightly, and her fingers curled a little.

Renly continued, "When Ser Selmy left King's Landing, he swore to continue serving the true King. I thought he would come to me, but he seems to have vanished, and no one knows his whereabouts. Brienne's cloak was originally meant for Ser Selmy... Margaery, do you think he might have gone to Dragonstone?"

Margaery reached out and hugged Renly, pressing her small face against his broad back.

Renly's body stiffened, and Margaery quickly released him: "My King, you need an heir."

As she spoke, Margaery walked lightly in front of Renly, then continued, "During the day, I can be your Queen. At night, I can become my brother."

Margaery's moist eyes fixed on Renly, who maintained a calm expression, and she murmured, "I will become more and more like him."

As Margaery's words fell, Renly seemed somewhat moved.

She continued, "For you, I am willing."

Renly abruptly embraced Margaery, his movements a bit rough, and her lower back hit the edge of the table, but the Little Rose stared at him without showing any sign of pain.

Renly lowered his head, and Margaery gently closed her eyelids.

Time passed, and Margaery did not receive the gentle touch she expected. Renly suddenly released Margaery and stepped back.

Renly said with difficulty, "I... I can't do it."

Margaery's gaze remained gentle, showing no other negative emotions, which made Renly secretly relieved.

The Little Rose's face showed a hint of apology: "King, your vassals are all waiting for a child to combine the Baratheon and Tyrell bloodlines. As your Queen, I don't have many choices."

After a pause, the Little Rose stepped closer, looked up at Renly, and said, "I just want to help you, My King."

Margaery's hand slowly rested on Renly's chest, and Renly's body stiffened again.

"I have another way," the Little Rose said, naturally withdrawing her hand.

Renly's softened expression tightened again: "Please give me some time, Margaery."

Margaery didn't insist. She showed a charming smile and nodded. She turned her back to Renly, seemingly interested in the map on the table.

Seeing Margaery's back, Renly's Adam's apple bobbed, but quickly returned to normal.

Margaery 'enthusiastically' looked at the map for a while, but secretly sighed in her heart, feeling willing but unable.

Margaery smoothed her light brown curly hair, turned around, and said with a smile, "King, I'll go back now. You should also rest early."

As Margaery was about to leave, Renly suddenly said, "Queen Margaery, once I sit on the Iron Throne, you will have children, I promise."

Margaery paused, her face blossoming into a smile, and she curtsied gently to Renly: "I look forward to that day. Thank you, My King."

...Outside the tent, moonlight like water illuminated every corner of the camp.

Margaery looked up at the night sky. The stars in the sky were like bright pearls, shimmering with a faint but steady light.

After a while, Margaery withdrew her gaze, lifted her skirt with both hands, and began to walk. Her maids and guards gathered around her... Golden Rose Camp.

After Margaery entered her tent, she saw Lady Olenna sitting on a leather folding chair.

"Grandmother," the Little Rose called out.

Lady Olenna's cloudy eyes surveyed her granddaughter, then she beckoned: "My Margaery, come here quickly."

The Little Rose scurried over like she did when she was little; her frail grandmother made her feel secure.

"Sit, sit."

Margaery held her grandmother's hand and sat down.

Lady Olenna patted Margaery's hand and said, "My Margaery, you know what you want, and you are much smarter than I was back then... When I was young, I was so infatuated with my idiotic husband, thinking I was the happiest woman, and willingly helped Tyrell."

Speaking, Lady Olenna pondered for a while, then continued, "Just like our Wild Boar Duke is doing for the beautiful King now, he's acting like a bride."

Margaery, listening intently, couldn't help but purse her lips.

Lady Olenna patted Margaery's hand again and said, "My idiotic husband fell off a cliff while falconing. I asked why, and they told me he was staring at the sky the whole time, not even paying attention to the horse beneath him. His mind just couldn't grasp it!"

She sighed and continued, "My Margaery, you are like me; you have also met a husband whose mind just can't grasp things."

Margaery quickly spoke, as if reassuring: "Grandmother, I will bear Renly's heir, and he just promised me..."

As she spoke, Margaery stopped, her expression slightly uneasy.

Lady Olenna asked, "What did the beautiful King promise again? Tell me."

Margaery's beautiful eyes looked at her grandmother: "He promised that once he sits on the Iron Throne, he will let me have children."

Her grandmother kindly pressed, "My Margaery, have you sensed anything?"

Margaery hesitated, then confessed, "I'm worried he won't be able to keep his promise."

Lady Olenna said indignantly, "After the Wild Boar Duke crowned Duke Renly, does he think he can lead the Golden Rose by the nose?"

The Queen of Thorns was very angry: "Only fools believe a man's tongue!"

After a pause, she added, "A woman's tongue can't be trusted either, My Margaery."

Margaery soothed, "Grandmother, I will handle it. Please trust me."

"Old women don't need comfort."

Lady Olenna continued, "The Golden Rose never gives up the initiative."
