DON'T GO 😭😭😔😔
A story that talks about her hidden darkness 🕳️🕳️
Chapter 8
Cathy POV
As I stepped into the office with my kids by my side, I could instantly feel all eyes on me. The room went from silent to filled with whispers within seconds. Some of my colleagues looked surprised, others judgmental — and a few even smirked as if they'd been waiting for this moment.
👥 "Wow, so she already has kids?"
👥 "Such a shame, she was doing so well…"
I heard one of them whisper, pretending to work while sneaking glances at me. Their words pierced through me, but I didn't let it show. I held my head high and smiled softly. They could talk all they wanted — my kids were my pride, not my regret.
"Good morning, Ms. Cathy," a familiar voice called out from behind me. I turned and saw James approaching with his usual friendly smile.
"Good morning, James," I replied, relieved to see at least one genuine face around.
"We really missed you yesterday. Hope you're feeling better now?" he asked, a playful glint in his eyes.
"Yes, I'm fine now," I said, smiling faintly.
His gaze shifted down to Luna and Lucas, who stood shyly beside me holding hands. "Oh… are these your kids?" he asked, surprise flickering across his face.
"Yes, they are," I answered proudly, unable to hide the small spark of joy in my tone.
"Wow," he said softly. "You're so young, though." Then he bent down, meeting the twins at eye level. "Hi there, what are your names?"
"My name is Luna," my daughter said shyly, her little hand tightening around mine.
"And I'm Lucas!" my son added cheerfully, grinning from ear to ear.
James chuckled. "You two are adorable — you look just like your mom," he said, patting their heads gently.
"Thank you," Luna said with a shy smile, and Lucas giggled beside her.
Seeing them smile made my heart swell. For the first time that morning, I felt warm inside — like maybe, just maybe, everything would be okay.
"James," I said softly, "I hope it's not a problem if they stay in my office today. It's the weekend, and I didn't want to leave them home alone."
"No problem at all," he replied kindly. "Actually, I was just heading out to grab some snacks. How about I take them along? We'll get something tasty while you settle in."
My eyes lit up with gratitude. "That would be amazing, thank you so much."
He smiled, and soon enough, my kids were holding his hands, walking happily beside him. Watching them leave, I took a deep breath, feeling a wave of relief wash over me.
For once, I didn't care about the stares or whispers. I had my children, my strength, and that was more than enough.
Jasper POV
The morning sunlight spilled through the windshield as I drove myself to the office. I'd told James not to bother picking me up today — I just needed some time alone to clear my head. My mind kept drifting to Cathy, as it often did these days. Her smile, her gentle voice, the way she always tried to hide her pain behind that calm expression — everything about her lingered in my thoughts.
When I finally arrived at the company, I parked my car and stepped out, adjusting my suit jacket before walking towards the main building. As I entered the lobby, something caught my attention — something that made me stop in my tracks.
James was standing near the reception area, and in his arms were two children. A boy and a girl. But that wasn't what startled me — it was how much they looked like… me.
I frowned, walking closer. "James," I called, my voice deepening. "Who are they?"
He turned, smiling as he shifted the little girl in his arms. "Oh, good morning, sir. These are Ms. Cathy's children."
For a moment, I thought I misheard him. "Ms. Cathy's… children?" I repeated slowly, my gaze shifting from James to the little ones. The words echoed in my head, sinking deeper with every second. Cathy — my Cathy — had children?
I felt something twist inside me, confusion and disbelief mixing together. She never mentioned this. How could she have kids and never say a word?
"Hi, sir!" a small, cheerful voice said from beside me.
I looked down, startled to see the little boy smiling up at me. His eyes — those deep, brown, fearless eyes — they reminded me of my own. The only difference was his light brown skin and soft curls. It was like looking at a younger version of myself.
"Hey there," I said, squatting to his level. "What's your name?"
"I'm Lucas," he said proudly, puffing out his little chest. "And you?"
I couldn't help but laugh at his confidence. "I'm Jasper," I replied warmly. "How are you, Lucas?"
"I'm fine," he said, grinning widely.
I smiled, still studying his features — the curve of his lips, the sharpness of his gaze — everything felt so familiar it was almost unsettling.
"So," I continued, "who's your sister? Are you both twins?"
"Yes!" he said with a toothy smile. "Her name is Luna. But she's kinda shy."
I glanced at the little girl in James's arms — she was beautiful, her curls bouncing slightly as she hid her face against his shoulder. There was something gentle about her presence, something that tugged at my chest.
"She's lovely," I said softly. "You're both amazing kids."
He grinned again, and just as I was about to stand up, he tugged lightly at my hand. His small eyes looked up at me — full of innocence and a longing I couldn't quite describe.
"Mr. Jasper…" he said hesitantly.
"Yes, Lucas?" I asked, smiling.
He looked down, then back up at me, his voice trembling slightly as he asked, "Will you… be my dad?"
Those words hit me like thunder. For a moment, I froze, unable to speak. His voice was so sincere, his expression so hopeful — I could see how much he yearned for a father's warmth. My heart twisted painfully in my chest.
I let out a small laugh to ease the tension. "Haha… I guess I'll have to talk to your mom about that first," I said, smiling gently as I pulled him into a hug.
He giggled softly and surprised me with a quick peck on my cheek. My heart melted instantly — that small gesture left me speechless.
Standing up, I looked at James. "Where are you taking them?"
"To the ice cream shop down the street, sir," he replied with a grin. "They've been begging for something sweet."
"Alright then," I said, watching as they walked away. Lucas waved excitedly while Luna smiled shyly from James's arms.
As they disappeared through the glass doors, I stood there, unable to move. My thoughts were spinning.
Why hadn't Cathy told me she had kids?
And why… why did those children look so much like me and my twin brother, Jude?
Something wasn't adding up. And deep down, I knew I needed to find out the truth — no matter how shocking it might be.
Cathy POV
As I was arranging the files neatly on my desk, I suddenly caught a glimpse of Mr. Jasper walking in through the glass door. The moment I saw him, my heart skipped a beat — that familiar rush of emotions flooded in, mixing nervousness, guilt, and something deeper I couldn't explain.
"Good morning, Mr. Jasper," I said, trying my best to sound professional, even though my voice trembled slightly.
He stopped right in front of my desk, his gaze unreadable yet intense enough to make my palms sweat. "Good morning, dear," he replied in that deep, calm tone that always made my stomach flutter. Then, with no expression on his face, he added, "Can you meet me in my office right now?"
My heart began to race. "Y-Yes, sir," I stammered, quickly putting the remaining files aside and following behind him. Each step felt heavy, my mind spinning with questions — Did I do something wrong? Did he find out about something?
When we entered his office, he walked straight to his chair and sat down, his eyes fixed on me in a way that made me even more uneasy. I stood in front of him nervously, clasping my fingers together.
"Do you really have kids?" he asked suddenly.
The question hit me like lightning. I froze for a second, my breath caught in my throat. So he had seen them… there was no hiding it anymore.
I swallowed hard, trying to compose myself. "Yes, sir. I… I have two kids," I said quietly, my voice trembling but honest.
He leaned forward, his expression serious. "How did you… get them?"
Those words echoed in my head like a gunshot. My whole body stiffened, my throat tightened, and my vision started to blur. My past — the pain, the memories, the night that ruined everything — came crashing back in an instant.
The sound of that night, the rough hands, my helpless screams… I could barely breathe. My chest started to tighten, and before I could even form another word, everything around me spun.
"Uhmm… I—" was all I could manage before the darkness swallowed me whole.
"Cathy! Cathy!" I faintly heard his voice calling as I drifted out of consciousness.
When I slowly regained my senses, the first thing I felt was a hand gently patting my cheek. My eyes fluttered open, and I saw Jasper kneeling beside me, his face filled with worry. His usually calm eyes were wide with fear.
"Hey… hey, you're awake," he said softly, his hand still on my shoulder. "Why did you faint? Did I ask you something that hurt you?" His voice carried genuine concern, and for a moment, I couldn't help but feel a warmth in my chest — the kind that comes when someone truly cares.
I looked into his eyes, and I could see the sincerity there. But that question — that memory — was too painful, too raw to bring up again. My lips trembled as I forced myself to look away.
"I… I'm sorry, sir," I muttered, quickly standing up, avoiding his gaze. "Please excuse me for a while."
Before he could stop me, I turned and walked out of his office, my legs shaking beneath me. As I stepped into the hallway, tears burned in my eyes, but I blinked them away, forcing myself to stay strong.
Inside, my heart was bleeding again.
I had tried so hard to bury my past, to forget that night and move on — but now, just one question from Jasper had brought it all back.
And the most painful part of it all was knowing that he was the only man I had ever truly loved… yet he could never understand the pain that came with being me.
