Chapter 4 - Cooking and Skills (1)

"Yeah, we have much to consider about", Lara spoke, "Those skills, it said you have your own dimension and the second skill, it increases the growth rate by 10%. How are we going to deal with that?"

"We can't just let the skills be still. We need to make use of them, but in a way so that trouble won't find us".

"How exactly does the Heavenly Farm work? Is the second skill connected to the first, or would it work everywhere?"

She started to speak and asked questions without giving me a chance to answer.

"Lara, first of all, I don't know anything. I was checking my status when you came to my room. I didn't properly check the skills. Even though I did check them when I showed you my status".

"Second of all, those skills may not be a problem much. To cover my farm and that 10% faster growth rate, I made my talent farming talent, which can increase production by 30%".

"How they work, I have to check them and see. Though those are some valid issues, I am more worried about my talent".

Hearing those words, the three of them were confused. I can guess what they were thinking. Didn't we make a pact to never speak of the talent?

"I know what you are thinking about, but keeping it a secret was not the issue, but how to make use of my talent to grow stronger, efficiently".

"The description did say my food can grant temporary or permanent attributes and buffs, even skills on a rare chance, but it didn't specify how to achieve that. The main problem was that I didn't know how to cook".

"I am sure, even if they provide skills, no one would be willing to eat my food", I stated.

Yeah, my cooking was that bad.

"Yeah, that's going to be a problem", Lara agreed with my statement.

Even though there are benefits, no one would be sane enough to swallow shit. Yeah, when I tried once, I felt that if one eats shit, that would be how it would feel.

All four fell into thinking mode, trying to come up with a plan to utilise my talent.

They are not naive. My talent is something that not only helps me but also everyone present. The world is not a peaceful one.

There are many threats present in the world—magical beasts, monsters, demons, and even other humans. Even though my father is no longer in condition to fight properly, that doesn't mean he wants to stay like that, not even my mother.

She may have Classes that have nothing to do with fighting, but if danger arrives, which could happen at any time, they want to be well prepared, and for that, my talent is instrumental.

If appropriately used, attributes can be bestowed three times a day. Even if there was only a +1 increase in one attribute per meal, it means a total of +3 per day. In a month, that would be +90.

It would be the worst-case scenario, and there could be more attributes per month that we can all earn, without paying too much or working too hard—a lot of profit for a smaller amount of work.

Who could say no to such a deal?

The issue now was to find a way to mitigate the issue of me being worst at cooking.

"Hmm, wait a minute", my mom raised her voice, "Show me your panel again, especially the talent description", she said.

I didn't know what she thought, but maybe she found an answer to our predicament. So, I quickly pulled out the Talent description.

--

Chef's Choice(SSS): No matter the ingredients, you can create heavenly food, which can boost attributes, add buffs, temporarily or permanently, depending solely on you and the ingredients used. The probability of gaining skills is rare but possible.

--

My mother read the description a few times, and so did we.

We want to find out what she found out.

"What did you find, Mom?" Lara asked after a minute, clearly impatient to find out what she had found.

My mom smiled, "Dear, you can see the description and see that there was no mention that the food had to be fully created by Ray, isn't it?" she asked.

All our eyes turned towards the description once again.

Yeah, it said that the food created by me would become Heavenly Food, but what constitutes my creation?

Should I be the one who prepares the food from start to finish, or can I only get involved at the end?

"Yeah, Mom, nice find. So, we need to experiment on this to find how it works", Lara complimented Mom before anyone, which only gained her a smile and a pet on her head from Mom, which Lara enjoyed.

"Also, there is a mention that these depend on me and the ingredients. I can estimate that certain ingredients give certain attributes or buffs. Like fish could give Water Resistance or Water Spell improvement, but they can't exactly give out Fire-related buffs. Similarly, food from certain sources gives Agility, probably Agility beasts and something like, but what about them depends on me?"

"Does that mean, if I am involved in the last stages, the effects may disappear or would be low?"

I raised some valid questions.

"Hmm, it looks like we have much to experiment on, and I believe in the first few weeks, we might be wasting the talent on experimenting, but I believe that's the best way to gain the maximum benefits. We need to do experiments based on every type of scenario", my Dad, who has been quiet for some time, spoke in a serious tone.

I know why he is so serious.

After his injury, he was unable to hunt anymore, making the family entirely dependent on the farm and the small herb garden that Mom kept behind the house. The profits are not substantial, mainly due to the rodent pests that damage the farms.

It was not just those who had such an issue. Everyone around the village faces such a challenge. When Dad was not injured, he easily took care of those rodents, making the loss very minimal.

Now, he couldn't help much, making us poor over the years.

Though Lara awakened as a Fire Mage, her growth demanded a lot of resources. So, whatever she earns is for herself. Wasting on other needs would stunt her growth and also the family's future.

I can see his thoughts. He wanted to find a way to use my talent to make himself useful once again. He as the Head of the Family, wanted to actually be the Head of the Family once more.
