Chapter 74 - 32

You read the articles Elton sends you.

MassLive, 2014: Mt. Tom Station closes for good The last coal-fired power plant in Western Massachusetts, Mt. Tom Station in Holyoke, begins decommissioning—

Smart Cities: A new lease on life for Holyoke, MA's former coal-fired power plant …long blamed for residents' health problems, and by 2009 the plant had lost profitability due to economic trends, which led to its closure in 2014.

Last year marked the start of a new chapter for the power plant, which has been transformed into a solar farm—

GRC Media, two years ago: Universities applaud start of "Big Calc" The so-called "Big Calc," a joint project of five Massachusetts universities, Everlite Gas & Electric, and the Massachusetts Green High Performance Computing Center, is expected to revolutionize fluid dynamics when its calculations finish, leading to revolutionary efficiency in hydroelectric plant design—

The Daily Hampshire Gazette, last year: Activists protest Everlite's planned Holyoke pipeline …activists called the project "unwanted and unnecessary." The project is currently suspended, but in a statement, Everlite Special Operations Director Mike Sullivan said, "Enhanced reliability of aging pipelines is necessary due to—"

CAHOOTS!, earlier this year: Beast of Everlite spotted at hardcore show As Gévaudan had its Beast so too does Holyoke, deep in the bowels of Everlite Gas & Electric, spotted just last week according to witnesses, banging its monstrous head or heads at a hardcore show. Rumors circle that the Beast of Everlite was driven mad witnessing a woodland massacre, perhaps the Battle of Bloody Brook that ended King Philip's War. Is the Beast of Everlite King Philip Himself, back from the dead and forced to serve the Board of Directors? Or—

wwlp.com, this year: Protest at Holyoke home of Everlite Director results in five arrests …cited for trespassing at the home of Mike Sullivan, Everlite's director of the "Big Calc" program. Also cited for disturbing the peace were Parker Lodge, of no fixed address, and—

Parker Lodge; Patrick Hodge? It could be. But what about "Mike Sullivan"? It's such a common name that you can't get much useful information—no address—but a visit to Everlite Gas & Electric's website turns up no one named "Mike Sullivan." The name shows up in reference to the "Big Calc," but you can't get any details, not even a picture.

Nothing about the "Beast of Everlite" either, but two people on Nextdoor claim (without evidence) that Everlite Gas & Electric is holding an alien in the "bowels" (both people use the term) of their facility.

Though that seems unlikely, you know about the Holyoke pipeline, because Clay's pack disrupted the original plan to run a pipeline from the Dakotas all the way to Boston—through your home in Northern New York. It sounds like a smaller version of the project is still underway. Those responsible for the pipeline invasion operated using dozens of shell companies, none of which lasted for more than a few years. Except Everlite: they've been around for decades, and they're not a shell company. A broad-ranging energy consortium, they supply oil, gas, and other power sources to large swaths of New England. You remember hearing about some of their shady dealings, but it was outside of your old territory, so you don't know much. Maybe Scarper could tell you something.

Elton and I return to Broad Brook.

Where can I find Nin?

I email Scarper and ask him about Everlite.

I go meet Roscoe Thanh.

I reacquaint myself with Hobland Nash.

I introduce myself to Lucinda Palys-Nash.

I check my phone.
