Chapter 9 - Chapter 9 | To New Beginnings

Razan stepped up onto the porch, his movements calm but filled with weight.

He crouched beside the two large bags resting near the doorway—the same bags he had carefully packed over the past ten days.

Every piece of gear, every weapon, and every bit of rations he had prepared for this exact moment was inside them.

*clutter!

Without wasting a second, he slung both bags over his shoulders, tightening the straps as his eyes flicked toward the glowing countdown still hovering before him.

In front of him, Haeryn stood frozen, her gaze fixed on her own transparent screen that floated just inches from her face.

The numbers glowed bright gold, reflecting off her eyes.

"43…"

"42…"

Each tick felt louder than the last, echoing like a clock counting down to the end of everything.

To which it actually is.

The air around them vibrated with panic and confusion.

From the streets below, the sounds of chaos erupted—people shouting, crying, calling out for help as the countdown continued to drop.

Some stood in the middle of the road, staring at the sky in disbelief.

Others fell to their knees, praying desperately as if their gods could stop what was coming.

"What does it mean that we'll transfer worlds!?" a man yelled, clutching his head in confusion.

"T-This is a prank, right!? Someone tell me this is fake!" another voice screamed, trembling with fear.

"W-Wait, what about my child!? Will she go with me!?" cried a woman as she held onto her daughter tightly, tears falling from her eyes.

The panic spread fast, like a wave rolling through every street.

People ran in every direction, some trying to find shelter, others looking for loved ones.

"No! No! Why is this happening!?"

"Mommy! Waaaah!"

The air filled with the sounds of shouts, sobs, and the echo of the golden numbers counting down.

The chaos wasn't just there with Razan and Haeryn's neighbourhood—it was everywhere.

Cities, towns, and villages across the world were drowned in the same terror.

Billions of people under the same sky, staring at the same screen, waiting for the same fate.

The world that had always felt so loud now screamed in fear as time slipped closer and closer to zero.

But no matter what anyone did—

no matter how loud they screamed,

how far they ran,

or how desperately they clung to the people they loved—

nothing could stop it.

The inevitable had already begun.

The "returning" was in motion, and humanity was powerless before it.

When the countdown reached 30, the first sign of collapse appeared.

*crack! *Crack! *crack!

*crack! *Crack! *crack! *crack! *Crack! *crack!

*tssssssssssss…

The sky—once cracked and burning gold—began to crumble apart.

Its surface shimmered like glass breaking in slow motion, fragments turning into tiny specks of light that drifted upward and vanished into the void.

It was as if the heavens themselves were withering away right before their eyes.

The golden glow that had wrapped the world began to fade as well, dissolving into the air like dust caught in sunlight.

Every color seemed to blur, the stars disappeared, even the moon faded into the brightness.

It no longer felt like night or day—

it felt like everything was ending.

Like everything was returning…

To nothing.

When the timer hit 20, the ground began to tremble.

*rumbling… *Rumbling! *RUMBLING!

*RUMBLING!!!

A low rumble echoed from deep beneath the earth, growing louder until the very soil split apart.

Massive cracks tore through streets and fields, swallowing entire buildings whole.

The quake was beyond anything humanity had ever endured—violent, endless, unstoppable.

The screams of people were drowned out by the roar of the breaking planet.

It was chaos on a scale no one could comprehend.

Cities crumbled.

Oceans heaved.

Mountains collapsed into dust.

The planet itself was unmaking everything it had built.

And then,

10 seconds.

By now, almost the entirety of Earth had begun to disintegrate.

Everything—land, water, sky—was turning into light.

The world wasn't dying…

it was unraveling, breaking down into pure energy, into essence.

Humanity's home was being rewritten into something new, something vast.

That essence… would be transferred.

To the Origin.

Within those last few seconds, people began to vanish one by one.

"Wh–what's happening to him?!"

"He's—he's glowing! Oh my God, he's turning into—light?!"

"No, no, no—don't touch me—stay back!"

"I don't wanna die—I don't—"

Their bodies shimmered, outlines fading into golden particles before disappearing completely.

Cries filled the air—fear, disbelief, sorrow—as loved ones reached for each other, only to dissolve in each other's arms.

Razan and Haeryn stood side by side amid the chaos, the world breaking apart around them.

The light grew brighter and brighter, until there was nothing left to see, nothing left to hear—only the sound of the countdown echoing through the fading earth.

*tick! *tick! *tick!

Ten.

Nine.

Eight.

Razan turned his head toward Haeryn, the light from above washing over her face.

Her body was already beginning to fade, breaking apart into soft particles of gold that drifted upward with the wind.

Her wide eyes locked onto his—filled with fear, confusion, and the helplessness of someone watching their very being disappear.

Seven.

"R-Razan… I—I can't feel my—" Her voice cracked, trembling as she tried to speak, but before she could finish, Razan stepped forward and placed his hand on her shoulder.

His grip was firm, steady, the touch of someone who refused to show fear even when the world was ending.

Six.

"See you on the other side," he said, his tone calm and sure.

There was no panic in his words, no hesitation in his voice.

Just quiet acceptance.

Five.

Haeryn's eyes widened as the light spread across her chest, consuming more of her form.

Then, slowly, her trembling stopped.

She looked at Razan one last time, her lips curving into the faintest of smiles as her brow lowered in determination.

Four.

"See you," she whispered softly, her fear finally fading.

Her voice carried warmth, the last bit of humanity she had before her entire figure broke apart into a swirl of golden dust and vanished completely.

Three.

Razan stood still for a few seconds, watching where she had been, before releasing a quiet sigh.

He tightened his grip on the straps of both bags over his shoulders, his gaze fixed forward at the sky that had already turned into pure light.

His boots shimmered faintly—the disintegration had reached him now.

Two.

"Well, that's uncomfortable," he muttered with a faint chuckle, watching as the golden energy spread up his legs, consuming him piece by piece.

One.

"To new beginnings, I guess."

His voice was the last sound that carried through the air before the light reached his face.

His features broke apart into fragments, glowing brighter until he, too, vanished—swallowed by the golden radiance that swept across the entire planet.

Zero.

.

.

.

And just like that, the world was gone.

The earth,

its oceans,

its skies,

and every living being—

all of it had dissolved into nothing.

Yet it wasn't death that had taken them.

It was something else—something vast, ancient, and purposeful.

Their essence, now golden and weightless, drifted through the void of space.

Shimmering trails of light stretched across the dark cosmos as billions of fragments—humanity's very souls—traveled together.

They were being guided, drawn toward something greater.

The light of Vrynn.

Through the endless expanse, they soared, carried by unseen hands until,

at last,

they descended upon a massive world that shone brighter than any star in the galaxy.

Galaxy?

No.

Perhaps the entire Universe.

To the land of new beginnings.

To the land of the ancients.

The Origin Planet.

The World of Vrynn.
