Chapter 8 - Progress

It's been two years and eleven months since I was born. This world follows the same twelve-month format as my old world. That's a relief.

I was sitting at my desk, practicing my writing and mastery over Humaria Apostis. (Simply, Human Apostle's Language.)

Ah… It's so tiring!

I was having difficulty pronouncing a few words.

It's been around seven minutes and I've still not got the hang of it.

Maybe I should quit. I'm not built for this. I'll do it some other day when I feel like it.

No! I must do it now!

Well…. You know what, I'll do it later. I've practiced enough.

With that, I closed the book.

Huff..

I let out a sigh of relaxation.

"Hm… I think I'll take a walk." I muttered with my left hand on my chin. As if I was in deep thought, which I wasn't.

I put the pen in its holder and closed the small ink bottle. Violet has been providing me with the necessary writing materials. The only one who knows of my secret writing sessions is Violet. I trust her enough to tell her. She has been very supportive of me lately. She brings me snacks often.

"Should I call for Violet?" I whispered to myself as I looked outside the window at the distant green plains and the patches of deep forests.

Tap Tap.

"Did you call for me, Young Master?" A slightly older but childish female voice spoke from behind me, tapping on my shoulder. I looked back, it was Violet.

Ah!

"D-Don't scare me like that.. Violet." I spoke after speaking like a little child. Wait, I am a little child.

Violet smiled at me with a slight blush. "Aw, Young Master, you're adorable when you're annoyed~" She patted my head as she showered me with compliments about how cute I was. Although, considering I'm a grown 21 year old man, it doesn't feel like one.

"Wh-whatever.. how'd you even appear so fast? Did you appear out of thin air?" I questioned Violet.

She giggled to herself. Leaning down, she spoke.

"That's a secret, Young Master!"

"Whatever you like… anyways, I'd like to walk in the Garden. Would you take me?" I asked Violet, looking up at her.

Now that I look at it, she's growing up to be a beauty. Her child-like features are still there, but slowly going away. If I'm not incorrect, she's turning ten this year.

Her blond hair has grown quite a bit, although she keeps it short. My heart flutters everytime I see her shining green eyes– just like emeralds –looking at me.

"I would, but.." Violet stopped in between, thinking.

"....But Lady Katheryn has prohibited any of her children from leaving the Inner premises. I do not quite know the reason why. I apologize." She spoke with a calm demeanor, almost formal.

"Miss Hoshina did tell me something about a certain event taking place." She added.

"Hm.. truly a shame." I replied, my left hand rubbing my temples.

"I've noticed you speak very fluently for someone your age, Young Master. It's really impressive. My Mother told me I was a very rapid learner too! Not as rapid as you though, Young Master." She smiled as she complimented me.

"Not only that, you have been very studious for someone who is only two years, well almost three years old. Your walking mannerisms are also applaudable. The maids have noticed, they gossip quite a lot about you." She added with her hands clasped together.

My eyes widened, a blush rising up on my soft, young cheeks.

"Wait, really?" I questioned with an excited voice.

I was rising up and down on my toes like a little kid, which again, I was one.

My popularity starts here! I can't believe the maids talk about me!

"Yes, they really do! You seem pretty happy about it." She spoke with a slight grin on her face. She had a mischievous tone and a glint matching the same fervour as her tone in her eyes.

I cleared my throat.

"Ahem! Anyways, could you fetch a book based on Magic for me?" I requested Violet.

"Magic? Wouldn't that be too difficult for you? No, I mustn't judge you. Forgive me, Young Master." She bowed as she apologized.

I quickly dismissed her apology by waving my hand.

"No! No need for that, Violet! I've told you numerous times not to be formal with me!" I exclaimed.

"I'm sorry. Anyhow, I will fetch a Magic textbook." She raised her head up with a bright smile. With that, she turned and opened my room's door.

"Excuse me now, Young Master."

Violet left the room.

I stared once again into the never-ending sea of grass. I was in deep thought.

I've never really seen anyone use magic. I'm certain it exists though. I'll need to find out the fundamentals, I must learn how it works.

"It seems to be a pretty crucial part of this world.." I muttered to myself, as I headed over to my desk.

I climbed up the chair, looking at my desk now, it's turned really messy with all the practicing and learning. The pronunciation of Humaria Apostis is very similar to German, making it easier for me to learn it, except this particular word; 'Plygophics'.

I don't know what it means. It isn't a word I'm familiar with. The reason I've progressed with my language so quickly in the past year and a half is because I have this special 'ability' or so I call it.

It allows me to arrange words in a Japanese sentence format in English alphabets. I'm not sure if I got this power because I wasn't born normally or because it is some rare ability people here are born with.

Well, it's convenient, so I won't complain.

I sat down.

Violet entered the room, with a book she seemed to put effort into carrying. She came up to my desk, placing the book on it.

"Thank you, Violet." I acknowledged her efforts of carrying the book here, even though it was heavy for her.

She then bowed down, with a barely-kept happy face– probably due to me thanking her, which is always one of her biggest prides.

"It's nothing, Young Master. I would do anything you wish for." Her tone was calm, unaffected but the expression on her face betrayed it.

"I think you deserve a rest, you can relax now." I smiled at her.

"No no, I need to do many things for you, Young Master." She stated, with a big smile on her face.

It seemed to melt my heart.

"But haven't you done enough?" I asked, furrowing my eyebrows.

"No, there is much more. But, a maid does not boast of her duties, so I shall take my leave from here, if you'll excuse me. I shall support you from the backhand."

"You shall call for me anytime, Young Master Artorius." She bowed down as she reached for the doorknob of my room.

"Oh, okay." I quietly spoke, it was probably not heard by her.

I looked in front of me, the large, carefully rope-bound book. It was a magic textbook I had my eyes on for a while. It looked dusty, as if it hadn't been touched for a long time.

Though, the title doesn't seem anything close to what I thought magic was about.

Hm, that's strange..

The title that was engraved in the language of Humaria Apostis in the thick, decorated dark green leather cover of the book was, 'Fundamentals of Basic Reformation'.
