"Seriously, a one-week climb to Level 2, triggering a Monster Feast on purpose, and then fighting for seven days and nights without rest… I'm starting to doubt they're even human."
"Even dwarves don't have that kind of stamina."
"I want them in my Familia."
"Are you trying to get yourself killed?"
"Uh, I was just saying!"
The gods whispered among themselves.
Of course, some weren't whispering so much as fidgeting nervously. After all, the Naming Ceremony was essentially a divine pastime, an opportunity for mischievous gods to slap embarrassing epithets onto other gods' children.
Once a title was chosen, adventurers would be addressed by it daily.
It was like in games: some players got cool names while others were forever stuck with lame names
And imagine…
"Good morning, Pink Fluffy Bunny."
"Wait, don't tell me… is that the legendary… Awkward McDerp?"
Mortifying.
Worse still, some adventurers became so famous that bards sang their names across the world, and their deeds were carved into history itself.
Picture some ancient chronicle reading:
On the XX day of the XX month, under the blazing sun, The Salty Sword Berserker single-handedly defended the city gates for three days before falling in battle.
Or:
In the year XX, Keymaster Extraordinaire and Pigeon Nest Hunter braved the Great Forest Sea, setting the record for longest survival.
At that point, you'd want to curl your toes until you dug a three-bedroom house straight into the ground.
No wonder some gods were desperate to secure a normal title for their children.
Freya, of course, wasn't worried. Her word here is law; no one dares oppose her. And if they did… well, Orario might find itself short a Familia or two by morning. She'd done worse before… and would again.
================
"First up, an adventurer from the Miach Familia. Name: Naaza Erisuis."
Freya's clear voice rang through the hall.
Immediately,
"Please, please go easy on us," Miach said. Usually the picture of a genteel nobleman, he now looked unusually nervous.
And indeed,
"Well, it is Miach's child."
"Let's not bully them."
"Miach, you'll join me for a drink next time, won't you?"
The goddesses quickly agreed to grant Miach this favor.
The gods, on the other hand,
"Dream on."
"Damn pretty boys, just like Takemikazuchi."
"It's because of gods like you that all the girls fall for the wrong men… sniff sniff…"
"Wait, Seth, why are you crying?!"
Thus the hall split neatly into two factions.
Finally,
"Miach, you'll have to live with it: The Faithful Hound of the Healing God."
"Next, from the Loki Familia… oh? A rare healer, Line Arshe."
"The Jester's Attendant!"
And so it went. One by one, names were called, each adventurer assigned a title, some inspiring, others humiliating, many downright bizarre.
Until at last, only two portraits remained in the booklets.
Depictions of Aether and Lumine.
================
For a moment, the gods stared in awe.
"These two… their quality really is something else."
"Golden hair and golden eyes, magnificent."
"I swear, if that boy let his hair down, wouldn't he outshine even his sister…?"
"Apollo, your focus is very suspicious."
"Are you relapsing again?"
The discussion grew lively.
Then,
"These two children…"
"I've already drafted a proposal."
A dusky-skinned goddess opened her mouth, but Freya cut her off, sharp and deliberate.
For the first time, she met Ishtar's eyes directly. She knew nothing good would come from letting her speak. So she pressed on smoothly,
"My two children are inseparable, always together. And, just to hint a little, they've already developed a form of combined attack."
"Thus, I propose we give them a shared title, much like we did years ago with the Gulliver Brothers."
================
Tch. Ishtar's face darkened at being silenced.
The other gods, however,
"Like the model of the Gulliver Brothers?
"I like it."
"They really do resemble each other so much. Still, I think the boy, "
"Apollo, shut it already."
The chatter was cut short when Hephaestus, a friend of Freya's, interjected:
"Freya, what exactly do you have in mind?"
Even Loki squinted, curious.
Freya smiled.
"These two are… special. And as you can see, they are exceptional. I want their future to shine like the stars themselves, to light up this night sky, to make our world richer, brighter, more beautiful."
Her lips curved into a perfect smile.
"So, I propose the title: The Twin Stars."
