Chapter 169 - Chapter 169: Showdown with Frieza

"Transform, Frieza. Otherwise, on this day next year it will be your death memorial." Arms crossed, Vegeta leaned against a boulder and stared at Frieza.

"Oh? I didn't expect you to know about that, Vegeta. But I don't need to transform to deal with the likes of you. Let's relive it, Vegeta—let me remind you how terrifying I am!" Frieza said with utter confidence as his ki surged, whipping up a gale across the ground.

"What incredible ki. It's unbelievable—and this still isn't all of Frieza's power. Makes me even more excited." Goku's eyes burned as he watched Frieza's aura churn. The Saiyan gene in him that craved strong opponents boiled over.

Saiyans are a warrior race. Battle is the Saiyan's destiny.

"Hmph. I told you—like this, you're no match for me. If you don't transform, I don't mind killing you." Vegeta kept up the clowning tone, but sweat was already beading in his right palm.

"Oh? You really have grown stronger, Vegeta. I don't know where that confidence comes from, but even after seeing this much power you can still talk like that. Fine—let me show you Lord Frieza's transformation. Heh-heh, you're a cut above your good-for-nothing father. To deal with that mediocrity, I didn't even use ten percent of this form's power," Frieza said.

"I'm not like him. You'll see soon enough."

"Why isn't this guy taking Frieza out before he's fully powered?" Not everyone on the Z Fighters' side agreed with Goku and Vegeta's approach. Krillin whispered to Tien, baffled.

"I don't know. But even this form of Frieza isn't someone we can handle," Tien said, unwillingly. Facing Frieza, he felt helpless for the first time.

"Maybe it's the pride of a Saiyan prince. Vegeta's got a deep grudge against Frieza. Frieza has humiliated him more than once," Raditz explained from the other side.

"Tch." Of everyone present, only Piccolo wanted to strike while they could. Namek was his homeworld, after all.

"Hah!" Frieza shattered his battle armor to powder, then his body warped dramatically. From a frame shorter than Krillin's, he shot up to taller than even the tallest among them, Piccolo. If his previous look was like an eleven- or twelve-year-old, now he looked like a grown man.

In appearance, he hadn't changed much—this was Frieza's second form.

"Hmph. Is that all you've got after transforming, Frieza? How underwhelming." Vegeta kept sneering.

"What a terrifying presence. If I had to face him, I'd probably… die." Krillin swallowed hard despite himself.

"Hmm? Looks like you really have gotten stronger, Vegeta. Very well—seems I need to use my true form. In all these years, you're the first to make me show my real body. Feel honored. I'll kill you in an instant." Frieza was irked by Vegeta's jabs. One look at the crowd and he decided: he would reveal his true form.

"This ki… is this something a normal being can possess? A m-monster." As Frieza began to transform again, the faintest leak of aura made Krillin quake in his boots. Compared to Frieza's ki, he was a mere drop facing an ocean.

"Goku, stop him now! Once Frieza completes his transformation, you'll all die—it's too terrifying!" From his planet, King Kai pleaded with Goku as he monitored Namek.

"It's over… all over." Goku still didn't strike, and after a few brief seconds, the smooth-headed Frieza appeared before them.

Frieza skipped the third form and went straight to his final form—bald Frieza!

This was Frieza's final form—his fourth form, the completed state after the third transformation.

"Ungh… so this is Frieza's true power?" Even Vegeta was shaken by the aura pouring off Frieza.

Clearly, Frieza's strength had exceeded Vegeta's expectations. He'd misjudged Frieza's might.

"Long time no see, heh-heh. I don't look nearly as ferocious now, do I?" Frieza said. "In this form, I'm not yet fully accustomed to my power—there's just so much of it. So, vermin, ready to die?"

"First, I'll clear out you scraps." With that, Frieza vanished from sight.

Two dull thuds later, Krillin and Tien were mysteriously lying on the ground, life or death unknown. Nappa followed them a heartbeat after.

"Damn monster—so fast!" Piccolo reacted first, shouting to the others as he flared his ki and lunged at Frieza.

"Masenko!" He unleashed his strongest beam at full power, but Frieza blocked the destructive blast with a single finger.

"Not that easy! Take my Special Beam Cannon!" The move that had once killed Raditz—rarely used early on because of its long windup—now came out with a vastly shortened charge time. It still wasn't instant, but it was far faster than before.

Two fingers to his forehead to focus ki, then a piercing beam wrapped in concentric rings ripped forward.

The terrifying ray struck Frieza dead-on. Even Piccolo couldn't help a brief smile.

No matter how powerful you are, you can't survive that.

But in this world, nothing is absolute. Piccolo's battle power might have reached eight million, but compared to Frieza, it was still far too low.

When the haze from the Special Beam Cannon dissipated, Frieza stood there unscathed, his voice as calm as ever. Piccolo's all-out strike hadn't left a scratch.

"Namekian? You've got a death wish." Frieza stepped toward Piccolo, one slow footfall at a time. He moved slowly, but Piccolo couldn't move at all.

Or rather, he was still frozen in shock.

"Look out, Piccolo—run!" Goku shouted, but Piccolo didn't seem to hear. "Die." A crimson ray lanced from Frieza's fingertip, piercing Piccolo with ease.

Piccolo toppled over, still wearing that dazed expression.

"No—that was telekinesis. Frieza's species really does have psychic powers. He just locked Piccolo's body in place," said Raditz, modified by the Chimera Ants, quickly parsing what had happened. Shocked or not, Piccolo wouldn't have been utterly defenseless; his martial instincts wouldn't allow it. There was only one explanation: Frieza had immobilized him.

"Frieza!" Vegeta roared and charged.

"Don't—Vegeta!" Goku tried to stop him, but it was too late. Vegeta had already engaged.

Vegeta rained blows on Frieza, who parried them all with one hand.

"Did you skip lunch, Vegeta? Your punches are so feeble." Frieza's taunts only fueled Vegeta's fury—but there was nothing he could do. He was already fighting at full strength.

"Which one of you claimed to be what, again? A Super Saiyan? Laughable, Vegeta—coming from you? I admit you've gotten much stronger. But to me, you're still just a bug." Frieza's fist sank deep into Vegeta's gut. The impact was so crushing his eyes rolled white.

Clutching his stomach, Vegeta crumpled at Frieza's feet, consciousness blasted away.

Among the Z Fighters, only Goku and Raditz were left standing.

"What a terrifying bastard, Kakarot. He's not someone I can fight. It's up to you," Raditz said, fully aware of his limits. Strictly speaking, his battle power was still below Piccolo's. If even Piccolo and the stronger Vegeta couldn't survive a few exchanges, charging in would only get him one-shotted.

All he could do was pin his hopes on his little brother.

"I'll do my best. He's the strongest opponent I've ever faced." Goku actually swallowed—a rare moment of doubt.

"Fiftyfold Kaio-ken!" Red light flared around him—Goku's strongest stance.

Fiftyfold Kaio-ken—his power level neared 100 million.

"Oh? O-ho-ho-ho. You are different from the rest. Looks like you're a Saiyan too? Much better than that waste Vegeta. Very well—then I'll play with you at thirty percent."
