Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

I heard the sounds of people in the room and inhaled the smell of gas as they tried to put off the fire, but that was already when I had suffered severe burns until I couldn't feel my hair or legs.

The hotel attendants rushed us into the ambulance to the nearest hospital. I couldn't talk and could barely breathe. My body was beyond recognizable.

I didn't see Brandon again. Did he die? I didn't have the time to think about the survival of another person when my case was also critical.

I blacked out and when I opened my eyes, Steve was seated close to my bedside. I wanted to run away, but with my condition, I remained glued to the bed.

My body was bandaged and I managed to speak. "I'm so-sorry,"

He murmured something which I couldn't comprehend and walked towards me. I managed to tilt my head to see the blonde he had cheated on me with standing at the other side.

He stretched his hand towards her and she gave him a paper. "These are divorce papers. I've had them for a long while, and today seems to be the best time to issue them."

"Please," I managed to mutter. He lifted my hand roughly and it fell hard on the bed, causing me so much pain.

"Yourp hand doesn't seem so paralyzed. Get up and sign these papers."

My eyes got moist and I mumbled another sorry, trying to plead with him.

"If you don't sign these, I won't pay the hospital bills."

He shoved the paper into my bandaged hand. I was still desperate to live, and managed to make a clumsy signature on the paper.

"Good," he smiled and walked towards the head of my bed. He disconnected the oxygen mask that was over my face.

I gasped for breath and tried screaming, but my voice was too faint for anyone to hear. Steve placed the mask back when he heard the nurses approaching, but life had already almost been sucked out of me.

The last thing I saw was a smirk across his face as he pretended to be concerned. I felt life drifting out of me, and I knew that it was the end.

Everything went black.

I woke up still on a bed. Suprisingly, my bandage wasn't covering my body. I lifted myself and I could sit upright. This was strange, wasn't I just near paralyzed moments earlier?

"You're okay." A woman said as she walked towards me with a cup of tea. "I need everyone to be at their best. This is one of the biggest clubs with all the city's billionaire's. If you weren't feeling well, you should have stayed at home rather than collapsing on the floor."

I crinkled my brows in confusion. I wasn't grasping any of the things she said. Pain throbbed at my temples. "Careful. You've been stitched. I'm surprised you even recovered so soon after the accident."

I couldn't hold it any longer. "What do you mean? Who are you?"

She came closer to me, placing a a palm on her forehead. "Are you alright, Bella?"

"Bella?" I echoed, my frown deepened even more.

"You're behaving real strange, you should get some rest." She left the room.

Where was I? What was happening. I looked at my hands and legs which looked fairer than how I remembered. My hair fell on my shoulders and was a deep blonde, instead of the black color I knew. Those nails and legs didn't look like mine.

All hell broke loose when I stared at my reflection in the mirror and it revealed a foreign face. I screamed loudly until a nurse entered into the room.

"What is happening? Where am I?"

The nurse and others held me down on the bed as I continued screaming. I think she injected something like a sedative into me because I felt asleep immediately.
