It wasn't the first time Ethan was seeing death right before his eyes, but surely this was the closest of those views.
The Level 1 zombie kept jamming its teeth as it tried so hard to bite Ethan's face. It was close… so close that just a single more move would result in complete disaster.
However, Ethan's baseball bat was doing a good job of saving him.
He used the baseball bat to hold the zombie back, pushing against its almost rotten neck. Within seconds, blood gushed down the neck of the zombie, spilling on Ethan, but regardless, the zombie was still trying harder.
It didn't seem like the zombie felt pain even though it bled, and, literally, it was only increasing the madness in it.
Anna was just there, standing and screaming in fear.
She couldn't make a move… What could be expected from a soft girl still devastated by what was going on?
Ethan wasn't depending on her to save him anyway.
After struggling for minutes, Ethan gathered all the strength he had and increased his push force as he tried to shove the zombie to the side.
To his surprise, he was successful, but the zombie didn't waste a second before attacking again.
Ethan expected as much, and he quickly rolled away from the spot the moment he pushed it aside.
With the baseball bat still in his grip, he waited for the zombie to get on its feet again before delivering one hard, bashing blow right on its head.
BAAM!
Crack!
There was a loud cracking sound after that blow, and Ethan watched the zombie fall to its death right at that instant… dead.
[You have killed a Level 1 zombie. You have earned +5 Boyfriend Credits.]
Ethan didn't bother looking at the interface as he angrily walked away.
'Screw your credits.'
"Ethan… are you okay?" Anna asked as he walked toward her.
"Yeah, I'm fine," he said without sparing her a glance. "Let's go."
They both stepped out of the dormitory and headed toward the Computer Science Academic Building.
It wouldn't be a far walk from the Male Dormitory to the Academic District on a normal day, but today was different.
Literally, it would be like this from now on.
The zombies had begun roaming around… almost every nook and corner was already covered, and this only meant that Ethan and Anna would have a difficult time making it to the Computer Science Academic Building, even though they were already running out of time.
Ethan's jaw dropped in frustration.
'Is this how I'm gonna lose my dick?'
'No.'
He asked and gave himself the answer.
He wasn't going to let that happen.
"Ethan, what do we do?" Anna asked, spotting the scattered groups of zombies.
"We sneak into every hiding point we find and make sure no one sees us. You have to follow my lead and make your steps as silent as possible," Ethan warned.
Anna nodded nervously.
Ethan rushed straight to a pillar at the side, and Anna followed swiftly. She wasn't as fast as Ethan, but fortunately, she wasn't spotted.
They began moving from pillar to pillar, attentively taking note of every zombie nearby—where they faced and where they might move next. Ethan couldn't afford to miscalculate.
Fortunately for them, they were able to sneak through the way, but at a crazy cost.
(8:32 AM)
It was at that moment he realized he had messed up.
"Shiiiiit… I should've just fought my way through," he said as he picked up the pace, running toward the Computer Science Academic Building like he was being chased.
Anna, who had been strangely left behind, quickly dashed forward as well.
She wouldn't dare to stay back when she knew very well that she wouldn't survive another hour alone.
"HELP!!!"
"Somebody help us! We're going to die!!!"
"ARGHHHHHH!"
"HELP!!!"
When Ethan reached the Computer Science Academic Building, it was already 8:34 AM, and sure enough, he could see the chaos already unfolding.
With his fists clenched, he dashed into the building and headed straight to where the noise was coming from.
It was the twelfth classroom on the top floor, which already had its door broken and a large number of zombies inside.
Ethan entered the room at once, and with his baseball bat in his hand, he went straight to bashing every zombie's skull without hesitation.
Every strike… every thrust came with the full force of his strength, and he never stopped for a moment even though he was getting exhausted.
BAAM!
BAAM!
BAAM!
BAAM!
Ethan kept killing and killing, and it didn't take long before he realized that the zombies were more than fifteen.
In fact, they were even more than twice the number the system had mentioned. Although there were some zombies that were faster to attack and took more than one strike to die…
That was a clear indication that some of these zombies had evolved.
The system had already stated that twenty zombies would evolve into Level 2, and three into Level 3.
Ethan hoped he had killed some of those Level 3s, because it wasn't going to be funny when they evolved even more…
He knew that.
After taking down more than thirty zombies all by himself, there were only two left.
These zombies seemed to have paid no attention to the attacks from behind and kept trying to reach the survivors hiding at the corner of the classroom.
"Tsk…!"
Ethan shook his head as he walked over, delivering two final strikes as he sent them down at once.
Only then did the hiding survivors unveil themselves and give a sigh of relief upon seeing two figures Ethan instantly recognized.
Gracie and Mella.
"Ethan?" Gracie, an ivory-skinned figure with brown eyes and brown hair, suddenly stood up and asked.
"You alright?" Ethan forced a look like he cared, but no matter how he faked it, his true feelings couldn't be hidden.
"Y—yes… Do you know where Anna…"
The moment she was about to ask about Anna, she paused when she spotted her entering the building in a rush.
Mella, a curvy lady with dark eyes and long raven hair, suddenly ran toward her. Gracie didn't waste a second either.
They all embraced each other as they sobbed hard. Their level of friendship was already at the point of sisterhood.
Three other figures emerged from their hiding spots after the chaos was over—Helen, the Senior Representative of the university, an unfamiliar face that Ethan probably hadn't seen all his life in the university, and then…
A guy.
A complete liability to the system and him as well.
The first thought that crossed his mind was the fact that he wouldn't get a thing for saving him, and that alone made his heart clench.
But then, he noticed that the zombies had succeeded in killing six boys before he came.
He had to make a quick check between his legs to know if his dick was still there. Fortunately, it was still intact.
No girl was killed in the attack, and Ethan felt relieved at last.
[You have killed 24 Level 1 zombies. 120 Boyfriend Credits gained.]
[You have killed 15 Level 2 zombies. 300 Boyfriend Credits gained.]
It was after Ethan checked the interface that he understood, as he remembered what the system had stated:
[Umm, system doesn't see a single Level 1 zombie as a threat. If it is to you, then damn.]
Now he knew…
That was why the system mentioned only fifteen zombies.
