This was the runes he was seeing at the moment.
This was one of the regular nights and monk was roaming around the corners of the island as he failed to fall sleep. This happens often due the fear of nightmares. Thats when he first saw the movement in the water. He thought it was a weird animal but it was it was not.
It was a human but due to some weird reason the man was like blurred. He couldn't understand his language but his telepathic senses was saying this man was facing great pain and he wants relief from the pain. He just wanted to die!
After seeing him floating from the island monk rescued the man and took him to the shore. The blurring man was saying something but the language was unknown to monk. Seeing his expression monk was sure that the man was asking for a favour. When his telepathic senses confirmed that the man wants to die he sent a desperate telepathic message to the man to hold on for a while. But the man repeated the previous message and said he was facing unbearable pain and he is certain that this cannot be cured.
He also sent him a memory of his own so that monk knows what he is actually facing..
