Davina's POV
I stood in the center of a vast, open meadow.
The earth felt cushioned under my feet. My breathing came in sharp, rapid bursts, like I'd been sprinting, and my heart pounded so loudly it drowned out everything else.
I spun around, disoriented, my gaze sweeping frantically in all directions. Towering, shadowy trees encircled the meadow. Something was off—terribly, devastatingly off.
Someone was beside me.
A man.
We were fleeing. Side by side. But his features remained hidden from me. They were smudged, like something deliberately blocked my vision of him. Yet my body knew him, my spirit yearning to match his pace.
We sprinted together, dried leaves crackling under our steps.
Then suddenly—he stumbled.
I gasped as he tumbled, his form plunging into a gaping chasm that materialized from thin air. His cry cut through the silence, agonized and frantic.
"Help me!"
