Chapter 178 - What Happened in Wakanda

After a brief exchange of introductions, the conversation returned to matters "concerning the entire universe."

Strange began by explaining Thanos, the Black Order, and Thanos's goal of collecting the six Infinity Stones.

"Wait, what does this Thanos guy want with the six Infinity Stones?" Falcon asked, clearly overwhelmed. So many new things – cosmic overlords, cosmic mercenaries, the Black Order, Infinity Stones – his brain was fried.

Peter simplified it for him: "Because of his childhood, Thanos's goal has always been to reduce the life in the universe to achieve what he calls 'balance.' Gathering all six Infinity Stones theoretically allows him to do anything in this universe!"

"So, Thanos's ultimate goal is one of two things. First, to eliminate all life in the universe. Second, to eliminate half the life in the universe!"

"Why the second one?" T'Challa asked.

"Because of balance," Peter said, shrugging. "The first one is more like extinction, while removing half seems more balanced, right?"

Stark and the others fell into thought.

Peter's guess wasn't unreasonable.

Of course, the first possibility was also highly likely.

Because "balance" was just their speculation about Thanos's behavior all along.

According to the travel guide of the former Ancient Sorcerer, who loved to travel, Thanos had done something similar when invading certain civilizations.

After conquering a planet, he would randomly divide the remaining residents into two groups, killing one half and leaving the other half to fend for themselves on their planet.

They just weren't sure whether Thanos did this on every planet or only occasionally when he was in a good mood.

But no matter what, they were prepared for the worst.

And, even if Thanos only wipes out half the population, who can be sure they won't be among them?

Or that people they know won't be?

Besides, no one knows how that half will be calculated.

Will it be half of all life in the universe, half of all intelligent life, or will each planet be considered separately, with half the population of each planet disappearing?

No one can be certain.

No one can guarantee these things, right?

So, the best approach is to prevent Thanos from obtaining the six Infinity Stones!

T'Challa listened silently from the side, his expression becoming increasingly serious.

Compared to Peter and the others, he was more concerned about the severity of the situation.

Peter and the others were worried too, but they were just individuals.

Even Tony Stark, who had a lot of people working for him, had only an employer-employee relationship with his staff.

But T'Challa was different.

He was a king.

He had to be responsible for his people!

Wakanda's population wasn't huge, but it was still in the millions. (I'm not sure exactly how many, but looking at the city in the movie, it seems quite small. If anyone knows, let me know and I'll change it.)

Even if they randomly lost half of them, that would still be over half a million people.

This was extremely devastating for Wakanda!

Imagine a family of four, losing two members, and this situation spreading across the country, the globe, the entire universe!

T'Challa turned to look at the few Black women standing behind him.

The woman with short, curly hair was Nakia, Black Panther's lover and bodyguard, and likely the future queen of Wakanda.

At this moment, Nakia had a firm grip on T'Challa's arm, clearly frightened by the scene Peter and Strange had described.

On his other side stood a woman with a Vibranium spear in her hand, her face fierce and her head shaved.

She was Okoye, T'Challa's personal guard and the captain of the Wakandan Royal Guard.

The so-called Wakandan Royal Guard was actually the harem of the Wakandan king, the "Black Panther."

Every member of the Guard was an elite woman sent from various tribes.

They only swore allegiance to the Black Panther.

In Wakanda, Black Panther was actually a hereditary title, synonymous with the king.

Okoye's ability to stand out from so many elites and become a captain clearly demonstrated her exceptional intellect and skills.

Noticing the King's gaze, Okoye straightened her back and lifted her head, her eyes firm.

Although she was also shocked by Peter's description and Thanos's wickedness, as a warrior, she only needed to obey the King's orders and focus on fighting!

In the following stretch of road, everyone fell silent.

No one spoke again, clearly digesting the information they had just received.

Peter took the opportunity to start observing this mysterious nation, which was almost hidden from the outside world.

After flying over the plain they'd just passed, a winding river appeared before them.

Following the river, they could see a city built between the mountains on the river's alluvial plain.

This was Wakanda's capital, Birnin Zana.

The city's structure was quite odd. Some buildings were incredibly modern, even hyper-modern, with a touch of futuristic sci-fi. Yet, below them were numerous rundown, low-rise shacks.

It was like a village within a city.

A strange mix of advanced and backward.

Wakanda possessed Vibranium, a highly strategic mineral, and a nationwide optical camouflage layer similar to a holographic projection. This camouflage could even prevent detection by satellites and radar from outer space. Peter and Stark had quietly discussed that to achieve this, the simulation layer above them would need to prevent infrared and communication detection, lest their industrial production activities and radio communications be noticed by major spacefaring nations.

This camouflage layer should theoretically also be able to reflect signals like the ionosphere, achieving shortwave communication. In short, the technology was definitely advanced.

Peter didn't know what to say about a place so sci-fi having so many backward shacks.

Was this a return to simplicity?

He suppressed the urge to complain; it would be rude to do so in front of the king.

As the little frog-shaped aircraft approached, the city's overall appearance gradually came into view.

Like Peter, everyone else was also captivated by the city.

Soon, the aircraft descended slowly. Peter followed Stark and stepped out.

T'Challa led them into a vast conference room.

Previously, Strange had only provided a verbal description. Now, they needed to properly exchange information.

This wasn't just about Thanos and his Black Order; they also needed to discuss what they should do!
