Chapter 56 - Chapter 56: Car Chase

Baki, Hansu Seong and Xin Qu Tao got on a car rushed to Tian Wai Tian Korea branch where Jo Gwigwan held a directors meeting.

Suddenly, dozens of men surrounded their cars.

Ding!

A message came to Baki's phone. Zu Pengguan's third son, Taehwa was the one who planned all of this, including the death of Zu Pengguan. Since White Tiger Job Center has sided with the second son, Jo Gwigwan, Taehwa has posted a bounty on White Tiger Job Center.

Baki understood that these people came here because of the bounties on their head.

The car's engine roared. Baki pressed the gas pedal all the way down. The front bumper hit the men blocking the road. They flew to the sides.

"How many?" Hansu Seong asked from the back seat.

"At least thirty," Xin Qu Tao said from the passenger seat, looking back.

Motorcycles and black SUVs chased them. The street was empty. Taehwa had cleared it ahead of time.

Baki turned right fast. The tires screamed. A motorcycle tried to turn but crashed into a street lamp. The rider flew off and went through a store window.

"Through the alley!" Xin shouted.

The alley was narrow. The SUVs couldn't fit. Three motorcycles followed them in. The car scraped against the walls. Sparks flew.

One motorcycle came next to them. The rider pulled out a gun. Baki turned the wheel right. The car crushed the motorcycle against the wall. The rider died instantly.

"Two more behind us!" Xin said.

They came out into a plaza with food carts. People ran away screaming. Baki drove straight through. Tables and chairs flew everywhere. One motorcycle tried to follow but hit a toppled food cart at full speed. The bike flipped over. The rider smashed into a second-floor window and hung there, dead.

The last motorcycle swerved around the cart. It was still chasing them.

They got back on the main street. The SUVs were already there. One pulled up next to them. A man leaned out with a machine gun.

"Get down!" Xin yelled.

Bullets hit the car's armor. Baki rammed into the SUV. It went onto the sidewalk and crashed into a store. The building fell on top of it. Something inside exploded.

"Bridge ahead!" Hansu said.

Two more SUVs tried to trap them. Baki sped up and drove between them. The SUVs hit each other instead. One rolled over twice. The other spun backward into traffic. A bus hit it and sent it tumbling. Bodies flew out.

The motorcycle was still behind them. Two more joined it from a side street.

They went up the bridge ramp at high speed. The car lifted off the ground for a second. The three motorcycles came up behind them.

One landed wrong. The front wheel broke. The rider bounced on the road twice and slid under the guardrail. He fell into the river.

The other two riders stayed close. One pulled up on the left side. The other stayed behind.

"They're boxing us in," Xin said.

Baki saw a truck ahead carrying steel beams. He sped up and cut in front of it. The truck driver hit the brakes. The beams shifted and fell off the back. They scattered across the road like giant sticks.

The motorcycle on the left couldn't stop in time. It hit a beam and went airborne. The rider and bike separated in mid-air. The bike crashed into a parked car. The rider hit the pavement and rolled under an oncoming van. The van's wheels went over him.

The last motorcycle swerved around the beams. Still chasing.

They came off the bridge. Baki turned left into a busy intersection. He didn't slow down. Cars honked and braked. Baki weaved between them.

The motorcycle followed. It was smaller and faster in traffic.

An SUV came from a side street. It joined the chase. Then another. Then two more.

"They have backup now," Hansu said.

Baki saw a construction site ahead. "Hold on, old man!"

He drove onto the sidewalk and through the construction site entrance. The ground was dirt and gravel. The car bounced over piles of debris.

The motorcycle followed. One SUV tried to follow but got stuck in the soft dirt. Its wheels spun uselessly.

Baki drove past a crane. Workers scattered and yelled. He turned sharply around a cement mixer.

The motorcycle turned too but hit a pile of rebar. The bike flipped. The rider flew off and landed in a pile of wet cement. He didn't get up.

Two SUVs found another way in. They came at Baki from the right.

Baki drove toward a ramp that led to the second level of the construction site. The car went up. The ramp shook under the weight.

One SUV tried to follow. The ramp collapsed under it. The SUV fell and crashed into scaffolding. The scaffolding came down on top of it.

The other SUV drove around, looking for another way up.

Baki reached the second level. It was just wooden platforms and steel beams. The car barely fit. He kept driving.

Below, the SUV found a concrete ramp. It started coming up.

Baki saw a gap ahead where a bridge between buildings wasn't finished yet. On the other side was another building under construction.

"Are you serious?" Xin said.

Baki pressed the gas harder. The car hit the edge and flew across the gap. For a moment there was nothing under them. Then the car landed hard on the other side. The suspension groaned but held.

The SUV came up behind them. Its driver hesitated at the gap. Then he tried it. The SUV was heavier. It barely made it. The back wheels caught the edge. The car tilted forward and crashed nose-first into the platform. The driver went through the windshield.

Baki found a ramp down. They came out onto a side street. No more enemies behind them.

But ahead, three more SUVs were waiting. They blocked the entire street.

"They knew where we'd come out," Xin said.

Baki didn't slow down. He drove straight at them.

The middle SUV stayed in place. The other two moved to tighten the trap.

At the last second, Baki turned hard right. The car jumped onto the sidewalk and went through a narrow gap between a building and a food stand. The side mirrors snapped off. The car scraped both sides.

Behind them, two SUVs tried to follow. They were too wide. They got wedged in the gap and blocked each other.

The third SUV went around the building to cut them off.

Baki came out on another street. The SUV was already there, coming from the left.

A garbage truck was backing out of an alley ahead. Baki sped up. The SUV sped up too. They were going to crash into each other.

At the last moment, Baki hit the brakes and turned. The car spun sideways and stopped. The SUV couldn't turn in time. It crashed into the garbage truck at full speed. The SUV's front end crumpled. The truck didn't move.

Baki straightened out and drove away.

"Any more?" Hansu asked.

Xin looked back. "I don't see any."

The car turned the corner. Tian Wai Tian's building was ahead.
