Last night I didn't sleep. I kept thinking of an excuse, but I decided to go to the meeting secretly. I woke up at 4 a.m. I left my dormitory and headed for the prison exit. I was extremely careful, and so I managed to get out of the prison without anyone noticing me.
Outside I saw a huge, deserted highway. I remembered that my home is extremely far from here. I decided to walk since I had no choice. After just 30 minutes of walking I was already tired, even though I had only walked 200 metres. I decided to take a break. I looked at my watch and saw that it was 4:40 a.m. The meeting starts at 5:00 p.m., so if I hurry I can make it. After a five-minute break I continued on my way. After an hour and a half of walking without stopping I saw a bus stop. I decided to wait. After 15 minutes a bus arrived.
Driver: «What is your destination, sir?»
Out of breath I answered: «Shinjuku Station please. And do you have a bottle of water? I'm dehydrated.» The driver gave me a bottle of water. I thanked him and got on the bus.
After several hours on the road we arrived at Shinjuku Station. I got off the bus and looked at my watch. It was 9:45. I decided to wait for the train that was supposed to come at 11:00. To pass the time I went into a convenience store. While in the store my phone rang. It was Ishiro. But of course I didn't pick up and ignored the call.
11:00 came and the train was late. So it would arrive at 11:25. I murmured: «Damn.» I became frustrated and decided to take a taxi. Sure, the taxi cost me a lot, but I preferred to pay a high price rather than arrive late.
I arrived home at 3:00 p.m. because of road traffic. Barely had I set foot inside when Mira jumped on me and hugged me. Mira said in a happy tone: «I missed you, big brother.» I replied: «You too.» I noticed she was nicely dressed and asked her why. Mira: «I have to go with you.» Ah—so that's why. Me: «Where's Hinata?» Mira answered proudly: «She went to do the shopping and I learned to stay home alone. I didn't open the door to anyone.» Wow, she's really matured.
After congratulating her I went to my room and got ready. When I saw my room it gave me a feeling of nostalgia. I finished dressing and then we left the house heading to Mira's elementary school. During the trip Mira started to cry and said: «I don't want you to leave, big brother — stay with us please.» My heart tightened with guilt. Since I had no words to comfort her I decided to hold her in my arms and whisper in her ear: «I promise that when you're ten I'll ask to resign.» Mira: «So I have to wait two years.» I nodded. Happy, she wiped away her tears.
At the meeting I learned that Mira is the best in her class and that she talks about me like I'm her idol. I was really moved. At the end of the meeting her teacher asked me: «Why didn't the mother or father come?» Me: «What's the problem? I'm an adult, so I can come.» She said: «Sorry for this indiscreet question — you can ignore it.»
After the meeting Mira and I returned home. When Hinata saw me at home she said: «Finally you're back, shameful big brother.» I apologized and then we went to the table. Me: «I think I'll sleep here tonight.» Hinata was surprised and asked: «And your job?» Me: «Don't worry.» After dinner I helped Hinata with her homework and revision because in two weeks she has an exam.»
At 9 p.m. we were all in bed. In my room I saw that I had 20 missed calls from Ishiro. Tomorrow I was going to get scolded. But personally I didn't care. I turned off my phone and slept.
The next morning I woke up at 4 and made the same trip I had made yesterday. I arrived at the prison extremely late — around 10:30 p.m. I climbed into my dormitory through the window. When I entered I turned on the light and saw Ishiro sitting on a chair with a handgun and a cold smile. I thought: «Oh shit, he's going to kill me!»
