Chapter 6 - Responsibility

Its been a month since i got reincarnated into this body.

Turns out this world entirely is called Rift for some reason but the big hole in the ground makes sense.

Elizabeth has taken the role of my guard quite vigorously, if it can even be called a guard, id say shes more of a teacher.

From the very first day she made me exercise outside so that i could get used to my body faster, which worked quite well.

After our training we would go inside to freshen up and then start studying about the world and what it has.

From what i heard, this world has progresses to the same point of technology as my own which i didn't really find impressive.

What made me more curious though was that Every, Single, Stupid thing like fridge, tv and etc. Needed people to know how to use mana.

And i did not know how to do that which made me quite annoyed.

It felt like being a kid and asking a parent to do something you couldn't which was extremely easy.

Asking her to teach me mana was useless because its supposed to come naturally.

Like how the hell is this supposed to work if i don't even belong here?

From what i learned, there are stages to manipulating mana graded from 9 to 0.

9 of course being the begginer one.

Its supposedly increases once you go into the rift but i couldn't do that in the moment.

My current objective was to study and enter a delver academy which everyone who wants to explore the rift needs to attend.

For some reason every time i brought it up to Elizabeth, she brushed off the subject saying that deciding where i join can be for later.

I wonder if she just wants me to become a drifter and do my supposed mission alone.

Id probably give up right from the start.

The only thing that kept me from lazing around was her who accidentaly broke the door to my room when i baricaded it.

This made me question if i was the woman in this scenario.

But thankfully i didn't get punished, just scolded a little and thrown back outside to do some push ups or run around the house.

While doing so, i watched the city below our little house which glowed like a small gem with various colors.

It was as if i came to the famous cities of japan that shone various lights everywhere.

We were quite isolated in there, the only house i could see being close to us is a big villa around ten kilometers away.

She also kept saying that i cannot see other people yet which i didn't really mind since i wasn't a fan of making friends on a whim.

And there is one more thing which i didn't mention to Elizabeth.

[Vlad]

[Locked]

[Locked]

I laid in my bed staring at a weird screen that was right in front of my eyes.

'System'

It closed itself immediately upon my command and dissapeared as if it was never there.

I had found out that i had a system after a certain lesson with Elizabeth about the mana and the rift.

She told me that everyone upon going into the rift recieves a system of their own that tells them a small description of themself.

She told me a few things from her own system which i couldn't see at all making me wonder if she made it up atleast until i tried it out myself.

'was that what he meant by it?'

To trust the system which god has given me?

But what difference was there between the one i had and the one Elizabeth had.

I still had to go into the rift for it to actually show something so why did he tell me to trust something that shows only my stats?

'Whatever'

I could think about it later, for now my priority was to study and perhaps learn something cool from this world.

Magic is of course the thing that many people dreamt of and i had the access to it, well not yet.

*Knock*

I heard someone knock on my doorframe before turning and seeing Elizabeth who seemed more serious than before.

"Vlad, i thought that we had more time but i guess i was wrong."

Expecting her to grab me by the collar and throw outside, i stood up immediately and readied myself.

She seemed a little surprised by my actions but brushed it off before going outside where i swiftly followed after.

We walked out going further and further away from the house.

I felt slightly uneasy for some reason but then, at the corner of my eye noticed two wooden swords laying on the ground.

'wait really?!'

After a month of torture i could finally learn something fun like sword fighting.

"Have you ever used a sword?"

She asked while picking them up and handing one to me.

"Nope."

I answered without hesitation to which she reacted with annoyance.

"How can someone be so eager to say no?"

"I was quite know for it."

I inspected the sword noticing how hard and heavy it was, it seemed to be two handed with a long handle aswell as the blade.

She stepped back taking a calm breath.

"Well then today you are going to learn how to use one because both the academy and the rift need you to know how to fend for yourself under any conditions."

She crouched down.

"Have you heard the saying experience beats talent?"

"No."

The atmosphere felt a little weird making me tense up as she continued to talk whole crouched down.

"In the academy there will be hundreds, maybe even thousands of people that have talent in various things be it combat, magic, alchemy or even engineering."

"They can come from rich families that bribe their way through the students, talented children that come from the best and hidden gems that could overcome you when least expected."

Her eyes locked with mine as she asked me.

"Are you ready to dedicate your life to it, crushing others dreams and hopes just to get to the top?"

.

I stood there fully inmersed in my thoughts, the place and time that she asked me about this just had to have some meaning.

And the decision that i would make is the the most important in my life.

I never really had much talent in things others did.

I wasn't strong, smart, quick, bright.

I was just an average guy with average everything.

But this time i had to work for it even if i had nothing, because that's the only way for me to pay back the god who gave me this life.

'Im weak'

Just seeing Elizabeth overpowering me without trying or by accident is crushing my ego.

I understood way too well that i couldn't compete with people from this world but.

'but i can try.'

I always tried.

Even when giving up was the only way id end up after.

I had tried to do it.

With a determined look on my eyes i spoke up to her in the most earnest way i could.

"I am ready."

.

Standing before her was a young man whom she had trained for a month, he wasn't very talented but she could see something inside him thag was different from others.

A small flame burning at his souls core which could not be extinguished.

Even with dozens of years of manipulating souls, she had never encountered such circumstances where there was more to it.

'Maybe there is more to it.'

The reason why he was chosen as a vessel.

His determined voice reached her ears as she smiled slightly before standing up and readying her sword.

"Then its time for you to learn how to fight."

She made sure to hold back as she ran up to him and made a simple slash towards Vlad who although slightly prepared, couldn't deflect the sword properly and getting knocked out in the head.

Elizabeth stood above him watching his every move in case it was a trick before grabbing him by the collar and dragging back towards the house.

'i have to be patient.'

The academy that she plans to send Vlad to is the most prestigious one thats supposed to have the new 'generation of geniuses' this year.

It's only a week until the second semester ends and new students start coming in, making it quite troublesome.

'i have to hurry.'

The time was not on her side and she knew it very well.
