Chapter 48 - Chapter 48: Marching into Sky Island

The Sky Island is located in the first half of the Grand Line, above the White-White Sea, which is itself above the White Sea.

Sky Island exists above the White Sea (7,000 meters in the sky), and above that, the White-White Sea (10,000 meters in the sky). At such altitudes, the air is extremely thin, and the physical abilities of Blue Sea (ordinary sea) people who reach this height are significantly diminished. Some residents of the island (primarily those from Angel Island) have two feather-like wings on their backs.

A group of people who live in peace, isolated from the world, reside here. It is also a place difficult for ordinary people to reach. Many believe Sky Island doesn't exist. Straw Hat Luffy and his Straw Hat Pirates once reached the White Sea by ascending a perilous upward current known as the "Path of Life or Death," and finally arrived at the Sky Sea where he defeated Eneru on God's Island.

In the past two years, almost no ships have entered the White Sea via the "Path of Life or Death." If one takes other sea routes, only a few out of 100 people survive. If one ascends along the current, there are only two possibilities: either everyone survives or everyone perishes.

The island's terrain consists of God's Island, Angel Island, Kumogakure, and the golden city of Shandora. There is a kingdom on the island called "God's Kingdom," composed of Angel Island and Apaya. For generations, the leader of God's Kingdom has been called God. When Straw Hat Luffy and his crew arrived, God's Kingdom was under the terrifying rule of God Eneru. Apaya, located in the Sky Sea, was originally part of Jaya Island in the Blue Sea (the Sky Islanders' term for the surface sea), and was carried to the White-White Sea by a current 400 years ago. Four hundred years ago, the North Blue navigator Noland once visited Jaya Island (which was then still intact).

Upon returning home, Noland claimed to have discovered the golden city of Shandora. When Noland led the king back to Jaya Island, the entire island had broken apart, and the golden city was lost. Noland was executed for deception, refusing to deny the existence of the golden city until his death. After Apaya was carried to the White-White Sea by the current, it was regarded as a Holy Land by the Sky Islanders because it was the only island in the Sky Sea with soil.

The Shandians (descendants of the original Jaya Island residents) waged a 400-year war with the Sky Islanders to reclaim their homeland and ring the golden bell again. Later, Angel Island was completely destroyed by Eneru, but Straw Hat Luffy timely prevented Eneru from further destroying Apaya. Straw Hat Luffy defeated Eneru, ending the island's 400-year war. Both sides reached a reconciliation. Bellamy (a subordinate of Doflamingo, one of the Shichibukai) later also came to Sky Island and took the golden pillar that the Sky Islanders had intended to give to Luffy and his crew, presenting it to Doflamingo.

Straw Hat Luffy asked Bellamy about the Sky Island residents' situation, but Bellamy did not answer directly. The current situation on Sky Island is that it has once again fallen under Eneru's rule. After being defeated by Straw Hat Luffy, Eneru had piloted his Ark Maxim to the Infinite Earth (which was actually the moon) to establish his rule.

However, upon reaching the Infinite Earth, he found it desolate and uninhabited. After finding no one, he returned to Sky Island to re-establish his rule, once again becoming Eneru's "God." Sky Island, due to Eneru's reappearance, plunged into a cloud of sorrow… On the Floating Island, the Akatsuki Organization's aerial headquarters.

A month has passed since Pain convened the Akatsuki Organization meeting. In this month, everyone's strength has once again improved (with the exception of Kozuki Oden and Golden Lion).

Pain has recovered to the Chakra level he possessed in his previous life, but there is still a significant gap compared to the amount of Chakra this new body can contain. Konan, on the other hand, has mastered her new abilities. In addition to her previous Bubble-Bubble Fruit abilities, she has gained some new ones.

She can control bubbles with her will to appear on enemies at will, encapsulating them and rendering them unable to resist, leaving their bodies limp (this doesn't work against extremely powerful or counteracted Devil Fruit abilities). She can also create a giant bubble to seal off a battlefield. Enemies within the battlefield with weak wills will experience hallucinations and fall into illusions.

Those with strong wills will also be affected, unable to concentrate on fighting and forced to divert Mental Energy to resist the hallucinations. She can also transform into bubbles to avoid all damage; as long as bubbles exist, she can transform into Konan (King's Haki can break this).

Her weaknesses are also obvious: she fears the abilities of some super Devil Fruits, such as magma, ice, darkness, Rumble-Rumble, and Tremor-Tremor. As the test subject for Konan's ability development, Reno suffered a lot this month, often collapsing from exhaustion. However, his own strength has also improved greatly. Reno has now learned swordsmanship from Oden and equipped himself with two swords.

Reno, synthesizing Oden's teachings, comprehended a swordsmanship that could be combined with his Flash-Flash Fruit ability, naming it "Flash Blade Style." Each sword technique has its own name: "Sparkling," "Shining Bright," and "Dazzling."

Reno felt he was a Genius. Reno believed that naming his three newly comprehended moves with such names was simply radiant and unparalleled (shameless, even the author couldn't stand it).

With Oden's help, he also awakened Elementary Haki. The results harvested now are achievements made with the help of Oden and Konan over these two months. If Reno's combat power were measured by CP0's Doriki value, it was 300 before, and now it is 1000.

Pain had already set the next course of action during the meeting: first, go to Sky Island to obtain Eneru's Rumble-Rumble Fruit, then go to Water 7 to collect the Materials for the ancient weapon "Pluton" and build "Pluton," to see what makes this legendary weapon different. Pain's Chakra level has now recovered to his previous life's standard; if he wishes, he can summon all six Paths at any time.

However, Pain's considerations were different, mainly influenced by his aesthetic sense; he didn't want the bodies used by the Six Paths to be too ugly. Furthermore, since he didn't have Devil Fruits suitable for the Six Paths to use yet, Pain wasn't in a hurry. Pain spent his free time exploring the abilities of the Human Path's "Door-Door Fruit." While not fully developed yet, normal usage is not an issue. He had recently been pondering a question: should he consume a Devil Fruit himself? After obtaining the so-called "God" Eneru's Devil Fruit, should he use it himself or give it to another body?

Honestly, Pain valued the Rumble-Rumble Fruit's ability quite a bit, but Pain didn't want to become a weakness that enemies could exploit in subsequent battles.

After much thought, he decided not to consume a Devil Fruit. Although the Devil Fruit's only weakness is being unable to swim, a weakness is a weakness, and such an obvious weakness is enough for powerful enemies to exploit and inflict fatal damage. Pain's only weakness now is Konan's safety; if anything untoward were to happen to Konan, this world would face a disaster similar to what Konoha Village experienced. Konan is Pain's inverse scale, and also Pain's Heart Demon… In God's Kingdom on God's Island of Sky Island, Eneru leaned his right elbow on the armrest, fist propping up his slightly tilted head. His left hand yawned as he sat lazily on the throne. Eneru wore a white headscarf, beneath which was an "auntie" hairstyle. His earlobes were long and adorned with earrings. He was shirtless, with thunder drums on his back.

He wore golden rings on his hands, and a golden staff resembling a monk's khakkhara lay beside the throne. He wore baggy pants on his lower body, was barefoot, and had rings on his toes.

At this moment, Eneru was utterly bored. Yawning, he muttered to himself, "What a boring life this is. Are there really no strong people left in this world?… "
