Satou nodded.
"The thirty names request," he said.
"It's in the record," Cael said. "Whatever the Church does with it is separate from the formal role." He paused. "Though I'd like to be clear: I'm not going to Aldenmere to cause the Church administrative problems. I'm going to represent this settlement. The thirty names request is a private matter. The formal role is a different matter."
"They'll connect them," Satou said. "The Church's hierarchy. When they read the record."
"Yes," Cael said. "They will." He paused. "And that connection will be accurate. The person who sent that formal request and the person who is representing this settlement are the same person. Both things are true simultaneously." He looked at Satou. "This settlement doesn't perform what it is. It is what it is. I should be the same."
Satou held this.
