Zylar carried Ver back to the tree platform and settled her there before turning towards the rope.
Ver held his arm, stopping him. "Where are you going?" She was scared, thinking he was once again going down. His encounter with that animal had left her absolutely traumatized. She didn't want him to get hurt.
He seemed to understand her worry, making his gaze soften. He gathered her into his embrace and squeezed her like he couldn't get enough of her. Then he pointed at the axe on the ground, which made Ver relax. He was only going down to get his weapon back.
She waited with bated breath as he climbed down the tree using a rope and picked up his axe before returning back to the platform. He also made sure to bunch up the rope and settle it on the branch.
A relieved sigh left her lips as he finally sat beside her. His eyes had returned to normal, well, what was considered normal for him anyway. No way were glowing blue eyes normal for a dull human like herself. And there was no sight of his terrifying fangs and claws. It was well hidden just like before.
'Crunch' A sudden sound took Ver from watching Zylar to look down. Particularly at the dead grey-colored beast. It was happening again. The dead animal was twitching and turning just like the white beast from the morning. Soon, it stopped moving, and another beast, looking the same, separated from the original body, which remained still. The clone soon sauntered out of that place, leaving Ver stunned.
When she glanced at Zylar to check his reaction, it was clear that this sight was normal for him. But not for her.
Even during the binary fission back on Earth, the daughter cells are initially smaller than the original cell and slowly grow to become bigger. But that didn't seem to be the case in this world. Not only were multicellular organisms cloning, but they were also doing it to perfectly resemble the original body. And this phenomenon only seemed to occur to dead beings. It was like the beings here skipped the newborn phase and directly became full-fledged grown-ups.
Ver felt information overload. She was working her brain to the fullest on this planet.
"Zylar?'' She called him in reflex but stopped when she saw him clutching his side. The swollen gash on the side of his torso was hard to ignore. But what was also hard to ignore was the bluish blood on those injuries. Ver had to take a moment for herself; she was this close to screaming but held back. Zylar had also seen her blood being a different color than his but didn't react like a savage due to it; the least she could do was return the favor.
She woke herself up and instead focused on his injuries. Just like he had done, she went through his belongings and got hold of the things he had used in treating her. Zylar looked at her in question as she started to clean his wound with water first before applying a salve using a clean cloth. Now that she looked closely at his wounds, it was surprising that it was only a surface wound. His skin was tougher than hers, and with all those muscles, the beast's claws had not managed to fully pierce or land a killing blow on him.
Bandaging didn't seem necessary, but she did it just in case. At least the risk of getting an infection will be lessened by this.
Zylar watched his soft human with fascination. It was treating him like he was some kind of fragile being. A wound like this would heal within a nightfall. There was no need to go through all this hassle, but he let Bero be. He liked that his little alien was worrying about him. Bero fussing about his injury made the fight worthwhile.
He was still wrapping his mind around his trial suddenly stopping. At first, he had thought Bero to be responsible for it, but now, he wasn't sure anymore. Ending the trial meant ending one's life. Why would Bero do something like that to him? His small human was treating him; no way was it capable of hurting him. His instincts told him so.
Zylar and all his kind have this trial every nightfall. Only those who are too old or sickly do not go through this trial. And once it stops, that means they complete their life cycle and become one with the dust. He couldn't help but ask himself, was he going to die? He had thought himself to be lucky once the trial had stopped and he was in control enough not to hurt Bero, but now he couldn't help but feel despair along with it.
He was still in his prime and was already going to die. He glanced at his human. His chest clenched painfully, a reaction he started to have from the moment he had found Bero. Zylar felt pain when he thought of never again being able to see his human. Now that his trial has stopped, he will soon meet his end, while a replica will be born from his remains. The new Xoron will have no recollection of Bero or his life. He may even choose a new name for all he knows. It had happened before to his comrades.
Zylar suddenly felt overwhelmed. Before Bero could complete bandaging, he pulled it against his body, tightly hugging his human. Soft and warm, he would miss this feeling once he dies.
Ver was taken aback by his sudden hug. "Zylat?'' Then she got worried. What if he reopens his wound? She didn't dare struggle due to that and let him hold her. It went on like this for quite some time until he pulled away and glanced down at her with his burning gaze. He was so alienly handsome, if that even makes sense. She stretched her hand toward his face and caressed it, which made him close his eyes. He looked like he was relishing her touch. How could a woman stay still after a man who looked like a well-made sculpture gave her such a reaction? She definitely couldn't.
So she decided to take a chance and leaned forward, her lips brushing against his. Just as quickly, she moved back while her heart thundered against her chest. Ver bit her lips when Zylar opened his eyes. He looked at her like he could eat her up.
And before she could react, he took action. His lips crushed against hers in an elaborate tangle. He kissed like no man had done before, he did it like he was starving for her. Ver made sure to slightly part her lips, giving his tongue access to entangle with hers.
Zylar felt his entire self come alive as he kissed his Bero. The soft curves against his hard body made him lose his mind. He was like a beast in a frenzy, and Bero was his prey. What started as an innocent curiosity turned into something dangerous. He crushed his human against him, caressed its entire body, and rubbed himself on his human, wanting to mark it as his own. He did everything, and yet he wasn't satisfied. Some kind of hunger for something he didn't know occupied his being. Right at that moment, something weird happened to his body.
An unfamiliar ache throbbed low in his body; his Rhun stirred restlessly, making him clench his jaw. Heat like never before rushed into his body, making him wheeze like a wild beast. And when Bero settled against his core, something snapped inside him.
Ver felt it too. His hard length was nestled against her barely covered pussy. His thick trousers were the only thing keeping it from directly touching her skin. She wasn't a prude. Even though she grew up in a religious household, she had made sure not to ignore her needs. She was twenty-three years old and had explored a few things. But none of that made sense in this moment. When she touched the bulge brushing against her, two thoughts came to her mind. He really was an alien; no way she will be able to take all of the length inside her, and did she even want to? He was an alien; for God's sake, he could already have a partner of his own somewhere on this planet.
And what did sex even mean to him? She couldn't just rush in when she had zero knowledge about his kind. They didn't even know how to communicate with one another. All this pushed Ver to get out of his hold and put some distance between them.
Zylar frowned when he felt Bero moving away from him. But he was too occupied by his Rhun behaving weirdly to stop her. It had never become this stiff; he didn't know what to do with it. But it hurt whenever he touched it. Was this a symptom of his impending death? That was the first thing that came to his mind. However, he had never heard about someone going through this before they died.
And it only seemed to react whenever he looked at Bero. Something in him urged him to pull his human back to him and let it take care of it. But how? Why did he feel like Bero could solve it in the first place? He just had that feeling and couldn't help it.
As Zylar struggled with his new bodily reaction, Ver straightened her hair, trying not to look at his lower body. That thing must hurt; he would definitely get blue balls from this. That whiff of thought made her think. Now, she looked at his bulge in curiosity. The veins on his golden skin were blue and glowy. Would that be the same with his penis? Will that glow? Should she find it out? It was just to quell her doubts; after all, it would mean no harm.
