Chapter 98: Green Snake Three-Flower Eyes
The black and white flame surged forward like a tidal wave, crashing down upon the mysterious creature hidden within the magma with overwhelming force.
Xuan-rank Dou Technique: Li Huo Fen (Blazing Fire Burn).
By gathering fire-type Dou Qi, it condenses flames to incinerate all things.
The technique's effectiveness scales with the strength of the flame.
Normal Dou Qi flame was the weakest, beast flames were passable, but Heavenly Flames were the best!
And in this environment rich with fire-element energy, even though Xiao Yuan was only a Dou Shi, his attack was already on par with that of a Da Dou Shi.
Boom!
The firewave slammed into the magma, sending crimson lava spraying skyward as scorching heat blasted outward in every direction.
Hiss!
With a strange cry, a massive creature suddenly burst from beneath the molten surface, shooting toward Xiao Yuan like lightning, its gaping maw wide open to devour him.
However, Xiao Yuan's movement technique was exceptionally agile. With wind-type Dou Qi swirling around him, he darted away like a drifting leaf, graceful and untouchable. Though it looked as if a single misstep would mean certain death, Xiao Yuan's mind had already calculated a precise route through the air.
"Xiao Yan, now!"
His wings flared as he twisted midair, widening the gap between him and the charging beast. His voice boomed like thunder.
Seeing that Xiao Yuan could handle himself, Xiao Yan finally exhaled in relief.
"Be careful, Brother!"
With a nod, his body ignited with white flames as he dove into the magma below, his presence turning more mysterious.
Xiao Yuan turned his gaze downward, squinting as Xiao Yan disappeared into the molten depths. He then pushed the Dou Qi from all five of his Qi Palaces into his Wood Qi Palace.
Blood spilled from his lips.
Even with his enhanced physique, the strain of channeling so much Dou Qi was too much.
But his aura soared—reaching the level of a Da Dou Shi.
As he stared at the beast before him, Xiao Yuan's expression grew serious.
A Two-Headed Flame Spirit Snake—commonly found in extremely hot environments, it survives by devouring magma and has tremendous evolutionary potential. Though born as a tier-one beast, it could evolve, with enough fortune, into a tier-six magical beast—on par with a Dou Huang.
This one was massive, at least four to five zhang long. Its body was entirely red, with palm-sized crimson scales. From the split in its long neck extended two hideous heads, each with giant rhombus-shaped eyes filled with bloodlust and fury.
Just as Xiao Yuan had predicted—it was a tier-four beast, comparable to a Dou Ling.
But there was good news.
A massive wound, half a zhang in length, was visible beneath its belly, clearly not yet fully healed.
From the looks of it, Queen Medusa had been the one to leave that mark.
As he stared at the beast's gaping wound, Xiao Yuan realized something else—without this creature, could Xiao Yan even locate the Green Lotus Core Flame's pedestal?
At that moment, the creature's dual necks bulged grotesquely.
The next instant, the two heads opened wide and unleashed molten lava beams, like volcanic eruptions, straight toward Xiao Yuan.
Feeling the intense heat, Xiao Yuan's wings beat once more, dodging the dual beams with ease.
Although powerful, the Two-Headed Flame Spirit Snake couldn't fly. Its lava attacks simply couldn't reach him effectively.
But once the lava blasts landed in the lake of magma, they triggered a massive chain reaction—huge molten geysers erupted violently across the surface, sending heat and destruction into the air.
The sudden rampage caught Xiao Yuan by surprise, forcing him to dodge continuously.
His Wind Feather Phantom Step wasn't just about speed—it was about precision. With each subtle movement, he weaved through the volcanic carnage with a dancer's grace.
From the distant tunnel, Qinglian watched with awe. That man, whose aura wasn't even stronger than Rob's, was dancing circles around a terrifying beast. Her emerald eyes sparkled with reverence, and the three tiny green dots in her pupils began to glow faintly.
The Flame Spirit Snake knew these tricks wouldn't work forever. Hiding beneath the lava, it lashed its huge tail, propelling itself from the magma toward Xiao Yuan in a blur.
Xiao Yuan flashed midair, changing directions with a flicker of light.
The beast missed, crashing into empty air.
But then—whoosh!
Its tail came hurtling around from the side, smashing toward Xiao Yuan's face.
With no time to dodge sideways, Xiao Yuan folded his wings and dropped like a stone.
Boom!
The tail swept overhead, narrowly missing him and crashing into the cavern wall behind. The resulting explosion left a spiderweb of cracks sprawling ten meters across the stone.
Seeing the sheer force, Xiao Yuan felt a chill. If that had landed on him…
His fingers formed a sword gesture as powerful wind-element Dou Qi condensed at his fingertips.
With another wingbeat, he stabilized in midair.
The Flame Spirit Snake, using the rebound from its tail strike, twisted its massive body and lunged again.
But this time, Xiao Yuan didn't dodge.
As the snake's twin heads loomed over him, mouths wide open, he smirked and thrust his glowing fingers toward the wounded spot on its belly.
Wind Limit—Falling Kill!
Shnk!
A thread of condensed green light shot from Xiao Yuan's hand, piercing into the snake's injury just before it could strike.
The crimson scales surrounding the wound shattered, and streams of blood burst forth before vaporizing in the heat.
Xiao Yuan soared upward while the beast plummeted back into the magma below.
Screeeee!
Its anguished screams echoed as it thrashed wildly, its body convulsing. The tail whipped erratically, hurling magma everywhere.
Xiao Yuan dodged easily—but his condition was deteriorating. The last attack had drained most of his Dou Qi.
He floated in the air, breathing heavily.
Down below, the snake's furious form slowly rose again. Its twin heads glared up at him with glowing rage. Then, its entire body ignited in deep red flame, forming a sphere of energy that enveloped the cavern.
The core of that flame vortex?
Xiao Yuan.
Even Xiao Yan, watching from afar, furrowed his brow. This red flame—it wasn't weaker than the Purple Flame used by the Purple Crystal Winged Lion King. And boosted by the surrounding magma, it might even be stronger.
"...But using beast flames on me?"
Xiao Yuan chuckled coldly as he felt the surge of heat.
In the tunnel, Qinglian gaped at the sea of scarlet flame that consumed the sky. She sucked in a cold breath.
Such terrifying power. Can the Young Master handle this?
Whoosh!
Suddenly, the vortex began to spin violently. A howling wind roared through the cavern.
And from within that vortex—ten Flame Spirit Snakes emerged, formed entirely from fire.
They were nearly identical to the real beast. Each had two heads and glowing eyes, locking on to Xiao Yuan.
Then—scree!
The chorus of screeches rattled the very cave.
Xiao Yuan, however, calmly blocked his ears with Dou Qi. Not even the sound could reach him.
In the next moment, the ten fire-snakes charged.
From every direction.
But Xiao Yuan simply opened his arms, as if to embrace the world, and closed his eyes.
"Young Master!"
Qinglian gasped in panic. She thought he had given up.
Boom!
A colossal explosion lit up the cavern.
All ten fire-snakes detonated at once. The shockwaves shredded the stone walls and sent magma surging higher than ever.
But at the center of it all—Xiao Yuan still stood.
Blood dripped from his mouth.
But his aura… was getting stronger.
The red flames began surging into him.
He had become a bottomless pit, absorbing fire essence faster than the lava lake could replenish it. A massive cyclone of fire swirled around him.
And when it finally ended, all the deep red flames in the area had vanished—devoured by the man floating midair.
From afar, Qinglian saw him standing there, safe and proud. She wiped away the tears that had dried on her face.
The faint layer of black-and-white flame surrounding Xiao Yuan pulsed with renewed vigor. Even his Heavenly Flame had grown stronger.
"Come on, hit me again!"
He grinned down at the Two-Headed Flame Spirit Snake.
Hisssssss!
Enraged, the beast roared, unleashing a barrage of magma pillars.
But Xiao Yuan only frowned. "This junk isn't as nutritious," he muttered. These pillars were weaker than the deep-red fire earlier.
Then, the snake changed direction—racing toward the tunnel.
It was going after Qinglian!
"Oh? You've got brains, huh?"
Xiao Yuan smirked, his black-and-white flames flaring. He blinked forward five times, instantly arriving in front of the tunnel.
"Thud!"
The snake burst from the lava, jaws open in a furious screech, spewing another magma blast.
"Ha!"
Xiao Yuan had no time to dodge. He pulled Qinglian into his arms and raised a shield of dual flames.
The beast was going for his weak point—his heart.
Xiao Yuan's face darkened as he poured everything into the barrier.
Boom!
The barrier shattered. The lava slammed into his back, sending him crashing into the wall.
"Urgh... this bastard..."
He stood, trembling, shielding Qinglian in his arms.
Not a scratch on her.
"Young Master!"
Qinglian's face paled at the sight of his blood.
But then—
Her eyes changed.
Three vivid green dots flared in her emerald pupils, clearer than ever before.
Like three tiny flower buds, blooming in sequence.
