Fíliya's words made Sense fall silent again. She thought and thought, and then felt a sense of shame in her heart.
It seems to be true... Even someone like her had blood on her hands, whereas Fíliya... she was solely obsessed with researching the Demon Race and... pursuing the pinnacle of magic, never once participating in any conflicts with humans.
If one were to be judged on whether they had killed someone, then Fíliya was clearly much kinder and purer than she was, even more so than all the first-class mages of the Association.
I see... Was I overthinking it?
Sense's tense nerves finally relaxed, and she apologized to Fíliya.
"I'm sorry... Fíliya. I shouldn't have doubted you."
"Mhm, apology accepted. Let's keep going."
Fíliya chuckled lightly, then continued to hold Sense's hand and ran for quite a distance before gradually slowing to a stop.
An awkward smile appeared on Fíliya's face.
"Oh, right... I don't know where we're going. You should lead the way, Sense."
Honestly... Seeing Fíliya like this, a smile unconsciously touched the corner of Sense's mouth.
By the time they reached Sense's cabin, the sky had completely darkened, and a few faint stars were even visible. The reason it took so long was undoubtedly because the two of them had deliberately dragged their feet.
Pushing open the wooden door of the cabin, Sense led Fíliya into the small space.
As soon as she entered, Fíliya took a deep breath; she was fond of the faint, musty smell that old wooden houses gave off. Her gaze then followed the grain of the wood, exploring the rest of the room.
On the wall directly opposite the entrance was a small, square window. It was well-placed, facing away from the Golden Land, which prevented the overly harsh sunlight from streaming in during the day.
Next to the window was a simple wooden bed, its frame nailed together from heavy, rough-hewn logs. As it was late autumn, the folded woolen blanket on top looked thick and warm. Although a bit old, it exuded a clean scent.
In front of the bed stood a large wooden desk, its surface covered with scratches left by the passage of time. A few old books and documents were piled on it, and a quill pen lay quietly on the title page of a book.
Fíliya's first impression of the room was that it was filled with the signs of life.
"I'm exhausted..."
After observing for a short while, Fíliya made a beeline for the conspicuous bed and flopped face-first onto it.
"Isn't that because you wanted to take a walk... We could have been here in an instant with Flight Magic."
Sense looked at the big kid with a helpless expression.
"Ehehe, Sense's bed is pretty soft... I can't, let me lie down for a bit. My legs are killing me."
As she spoke, Fíliya kicked off her shoes and slipped under Sense's covers.
Sense didn't say much about this, simply sitting silently beside Fíliya and patting her shoulder.
"Hm?"
Fíliya turned over.
"Are you hungry?"
"A little."
Fíliya nodded. Although she had eaten plenty of sweets at Macht's place, that was earlier in the day. After walking all the way back to Sense's cabin, her energy was completely drained.
So Sense turned to prepare some food for Fíliya, who, in a daze, closed her eyes.
This long-lost sense of security she felt with Sense allowed Fíliya to relax completely, and she drifted off to sleep in an instant.
While she also felt at ease with Solitär, that was a different kind of comfort. In any case, Fíliya napped on the bed for a while until Sense woke her up again.
"Hm?"
After rubbing her eyes, the aroma that wafted into her nose quickly roused Fíliya's spirits, and she felt much more awake.
She looked in the direction Sense was pointing. There, a large bowl of stew had been served in a simple container, with a few slices of white bread on the side.
Fíliya quickly got out of bed, walked over to the wooden desk, and began to enjoy the simple dinner with Sense.
Of course, Fíliya would never complain about Sense's cooking. After getting used to the lavish meals from Solitär and the housekeeping golem, she actually missed this taste from Sense.
Sense didn't start eating right away. Instead, she rested her cheek on her hand and silently watched Fíliya's completely unladylike table manners.
This girl, she hasn't changed a bit since she was a kid... Sense thought.
If Fíliya was completely relaxed around Sense, then the same could be said for Sense. In front of her younger sister, she didn't have to follow any tedious rules either.
"Fíliya, by the way..."
At Sense's words, Fíliya put down the piece of bread in her hand.
"Hm?"
"Over there."
Sense pursed her lips, gesturing for Fíliya to look towards the doorway.
Only then did Fíliya notice that the four golems were poking their long, single-eyed, lizard-like heads into the cabin from the doorway. The scene, it had to be said, was rather comical.
As for what these golems wanted, the first thing Fíliya ruled out was being drawn by the scent.
That was a joke; these things automatically replenished their mana from the air. They only needed to be powered down occasionally to recharge their mana, and didn't need to eat at all.
Right now... they were probably just following the 'follow me' command I set earlier...
Right, I was so tired I just crashed on the bed when I came in and forgot all about these things. It's a good thing they didn't damage the house.
Thinking of this, Fíliya quickly got up and went to the door. She issued a new command to the golems, telling them to power down and lie still around the house, before returning inside.
"I still find it strange. Golems of this type... Did you make them, Fíliya?"
Seeing Fíliya return, Sense immediately asked a new question.
"No... it's like this..."
Then, Fíliya began to tell Sense how she found these things and how she modified them.
"Yeah, that's pretty much it. So, Sense, can you guess why I brought these things here?"
Of course, Sense didn't know, so she just shook her head.
"Well, to give them to you, of course... The magical inscriptions inside them are actually very easy to understand. When you go back to the Association to report, take these things with you. Old man Lernen might be very interested in them. Mass production is something best left to the professionals."
"But... how am I supposed to take them back?"
"That's simple. Come."
As Fíliya spoke, she took Sense's hand again and led her in front of the golems.
