Chapter 34 - Chapter 34 Promise

After the two avatars landed in front of the residence of the Prometheus brothers, Prometheus immediately stepped forward and asked with concern:

"Who won?"

"I lost."

Ares said in a muffled voice:

"Don't worry, I'll honor my bet. I'll grant a part of my concept to your creations, Prometheus."

"I'll leave him to you, Prometheus." Unlike Ares's avatar, Athena's illusionary avatar had no physical form, and she dared not linger before Prometheus, fearing that the God of Forethought might discern something amiss. So, after escorting Ares's avatar back here, she said to Prometheus, "I need to report the results of this creation to Zeus first, so I'm returning to Olympus. Ares, remember to come back after you've helped Prometheus."

With that, she didn't wait for Ares and Prometheus to agree. This illusionary avatar floated up and flew towards the distant sea of clouds.

Prometheus narrowed his eyes as he watched her retreating figure, then turned to his younger brother, who was scratching his head, and said, "Epimetheus, go play with your creations in the nearby forest first."

"Oh, okay." Epimetheus was clearly impatient. He watched the animals he had endowed with various abilities run and live freely in the forest, and he also wanted to get closer to his creations. So, after Prometheus finished speaking, Epimetheus happily ran into the forest and began playing with his creations.

Prometheus and Ares exchanged a knowing glance, then the God of Forethought invited, "Respected Ares, please come with me into the cave to bestow your gift upon my final creations."

"Okay." Ares knew that this god wanted to say something to him, so he nodded and agreed.

The two gods led the bewildered humans back into the cave. Prometheus first asked Ares to bestow the nature of struggle upon humanity, and Ares did not refuse, directly using his divine office as the God of War to imbue this concept into the human soul.

After Ares's concept was bestowed, these still-bewildered humans, though not yet fully awakened to self-consciousness, began to develop a subconscious desire for competition under the influence of Ares's War divine office. Several tall men in the crowd had already started pushing each other back and forth with their bodies, seemingly to see whose body was stronger.

However, Prometheus breathed a sigh of relief when he saw this. After restraining these humans, he said to Ares with gratitude:

"With this, my creations are complete. Thank you, God of War."

"Just honoring a bet." Ares shrugged, "Who told me I lost to Athena?"

"If you didn't want to lose, would you really have lost to her?" The God of Forethought looked deeply at Ares: "Ares, honestly, I didn't expect you to so decisively bestow the most core concept of 'struggle' in War upon humanity."

"Creatures lacking the will to fight cannot survive in this world," Ares said meaningfully.

"You're right." Prometheus sighed, then a hesitant expression appeared on his face.

He looked at Ares and suddenly said, "You already know that Athena succeeded, right?"

"Although my eyes aren't that good, I can still tell that her avatar is an illusion," Ares replied. "I haven't been following Hecate for so long for nothing."

"But you," he looked at Prometheus, "you told her the location of 'Hope'. What exactly are you thinking, God of Forethought?"

"Heh, before answering that question, I hope you can answer one of mine first, God of War." Prometheus pointed to the humans nearby and asked Ares, "If I were to say that one day, my creations will completely replace the gods, surpass the gods, and become the new overlords of this planet, as a god, what would you do now?"

"What to do?" Ares thought for a moment, then said, "What's it to me?"

"Hmm?"

"I just want to live now, to escape from the fate in your damned prophecy," Ares said without hesitation. "Gods have endless lives, and I'm far from having lived enough. I don't want to be buried with any gods, destiny, or whatever. I want freedom, the right to live without fear. As for the rule of the gods, or the overlord of the planet, what do those things have to do with me?"

"Haha, hahahaha—" Prometheus suddenly burst into laughter after hearing Ares's words. He laughed at Ares, "Is that so? So that's what you think. Then I'm relieved."

He looked at the entrance of the cave, smiled wryly, and said, "It seems your stance is similar to your teacher Hecate. That's good. This way, although I still have no allies, I don't need to guard against you anymore, Ares. You don't know this, but calculating you as an enemy is even harder than playing schemes with Athena."

"Let's talk properly, you don't need to flatter me." Ares took a step back, looking at Prometheus with distaste: "I won't lay a hand on your creations, so bro, stop licking, it's a bit disgusting."

"I'm serious, compared to you, Athena is really easier to scheme against." Prometheus looked at Ares and said with a smile, "Because I don't know what you want, so I can't scheme against you. But Athena, even if she's as cunning as a demon and inherited her mother's wisdom, she's not without a trace. She has her own schemes, and she seeks a lot, and wants a lot. The more she wants, the easier it is for me to scheme against her. Sometimes, even knowing that it's a trap, the Goddess of Wisdom must step into it because of her own goals."

"So, you know her purpose?" Ares asked.

Prometheus nodded: "Athena seeks nothing more than two things: first, revenge for her birth mother. She inherited the hatred of her innocent mother, who was devoured by her tyrannical husband. Second, to become the Fourth Generation God King, because she firmly believes this is her own destiny. However..."

He glanced at his creations, then suddenly said to Ares:

"Ares, do you remember what you promised me when I first told you about that prophecy concerning Zeus?"

Ares thought for a moment, then nodded and said, "Yes, what help do you need from me? Just say it."

"If one day, the gods want to destroy humanity," Prometheus solemnly requested of Ares, "I hope you can help humanity. You don't need to oppose the gods; you just need to use a small trick to preserve the spark of human survival."
