Crack! Crack! Crack!
My hand effortlessly slid to my mag, popping it out and clicking a full one in. I slammed the bolt handle back and took aim. Crack! Crack!
My silenced BAR rained my anger onto my enemies with each trigger pull. The enemy had been supplying their men with bigger and better ammunition recently to combat power armor and I was taking advantage of that. My modernized BAR fired 30-06 and the enemy was practically putting them in my hands as I continued to drop the idiots. I'd been terrorizing this fort for days and they hadn't gotten so much as a glimpse of me.
Crack! Crack! Crack! Crack!
Another four dead. Others had passed by as I messed with these bastards. The most recent ally was an old squad mate on a recon mission. I was now in the tree line picking off anyone I could see before they scrambled tanks in my direction. Crack! Another man six feet under.

Ellery this is command. Enemy fort position 851 has been identified to hold multiple allies. Extract and exfil the allied targets and sabotage operations. Click
The very base I'd been torturing for the last few days had allies I needed to get out before sabotaging the place. I hated extraction missions, if someone got caught it was usually because they were incompetent in combat. Without battlefield competency it was hard to move them safely. Sabotage on the other hand was a specialty of mine.

The mission was verified, good. Verified missions meant the info had been confirmed and that I was ordered to do the mission by high command.
I'd been scouting this place and already knew where the people were. I had seen them and had wanted to get them but that meant directly confronting tanks and heavy weapons.
I waited for night to fall and snuck in. I made my way around the maze like base with perfect precision while planting C4 on all machines and vehicles I came across. When I got to the building with my targets I put my fist through the door and pushed it open. Only a single guard watched over them and I snapped him like a wet branch.
I grabbed the targets and slowly led them out before an alarm was set off. I immediately triggered the C4 and we bolted in the chaos towards friendly territory. By morning my mission was complete as the surprisingly competent exfil targets climbed onto a quadcopter. I was slowly returning to my base behind enemy lines when something hit me with a small ting sound.
I looked up to find myself surrounded by augmented government goons. I had gotten an AP round right through the abdomen. Wire nets fell atop me and dragged me to the mud. I woke in a dark room strapped to a bed. The bastards spent the next three weeks doing everything they could to get my encryption codes from me in hopes of intercepting rebellion transmissions and decrypting them.
I only escaped when my old squad mates bombed the base to rubble the collapsed the building while shoving me in a new set of power armor. The enemy had analyzed power armor which caused the war to become a brutal melee. In between the time I was captured then rescued the rebellion had exterminated multiple traitors and spies, one of which had set me up to be captured.
After recovering I had been given a mission and had quickly found myself surrounded in a destroyed urban center. Tssss tsss tssss
My suppressed LMG his rounds everywhere as I searched for a way out of my encirclement. I was catching rounds left and right but I still stood and gunned down my enemies.
I quickly ran out of ammo and switched to my Desert Eagle. Mg gunshots echoed through the ruins as I put gaping holes in targets like I was still a little kid shooting cans with a BB gun. My armor eventually failed me and I hit the cracked cement and crumbling plaster that made up the ground around me.
A faceless merc, a government goon, a man without a home, they were all the same. They approached me and one took my gun. A single pull of the trigger and I woke. I sat bolt upright, Vulpix yipping as she landed in my lap. I twisted reaching for a gun that wasn't there as I glared around the room. My instincts told me to move but my eyes and their connection to my armors sensors told me there was no reason to.
I took my Pokemon on a walk to calm down while going over what I remembered of that night. I'd been headshot with my own desert eagle and knocked unconscious with a large dent in my helmet. They made themselves know that night, the Ghosts of LaFayette. A bunch of French speaking Americans who had developed a genetics alteration program alongside French and Swedish scientists.
The Ghosts were a horrifying force to the enemy who moved around the country like ghosts that appeared and disappeared while leaving mountains of corpses in their wake. I had been saved by them and dragged back to rebel HQ. I continued to see them throughout the war and had even seen them at the battle I had died in. I still remember the day I fought through a trap with one. She'd been a hulking mass covered in customs power armor. I had barely kept up as I provided support with her gliding through an urban waste dispatching enemies with such force that I could see their bodies collapse as and splatter from the sheer force she exerted.
In my armor I could already tear a man apart but she didn't need more than a single hit. I still remembered the blood and gore drenching me after some idiot had jumped on her back and been thrown off right at me. I had barely been able to put my shoulder forward as he hit and crumpled on my body. She had practically peeled him off me then picked flesh and bone off while giving me a weird look. She had carried me through the trap like I was a bad random who had gotten lucky enough to team with a pro.
Those events had stuck with me throughout my life and clearly had transferred to my new one. The genetic changes they had undergone reminded me of the changes I now had. My strength now felt like it had when I was young and right out of the military. With my armor augmenting me I could lift around 1400 pounds.
In the apartment I began remaking my armor. I had made multiple online orders and done a little research. First I looked at the robotics of this world. It was what I knew best but this world disappointed me. The only advanced robotics I could find online were massive animatronics and mechs. I had looked into the mechs but they didn't have anything useful.
Next I looked at making some money to fund myself with. I quickly found the best job for me would be a professor or researcher. Professors were verified experts in something that got sponsored by the government, while researchers were the same but not yet experts. The descriptions varied widely but mostly relied on what you were a professor or researcher of.
Th Alliance had made it easy for people to apply for a position but they had a test center to determine your eligibility in most major cities. I signed up for a robotics test and the test time was set for later in the day. With some time on my hands I kept working on my armor. I had ordered multiple things earlier while training my Pokemon and I was currently trying to make the 'emitter cannon' into an actual weapon.
The emitter cannon was simply a large highly focused laser. The cannon was a sketchy buy because the details on it listed a thunder stone battery and a laser more powerful than the stuff mounted on ships in my past life. With my knowledge of laser induced plasma and electromagnetic fields from Big Hero 6 I was able to make an cannon to mount to my shoulder with some extensions to allow me to aim manually.
I had to take it outside the city to test it as it was a genuine weapon. I got to blow apart 6 trees with a shot reminiscent of the Star Wars blaster bolt. After the 6 shots the battery needed time to recharge as the thunder stone within didn't provide enough energy to fire continuously.
After testing the cannon I dropped my armor off at my apartment and went to the testing facility.
