THE IRON FIST — Chapter 177: Monstrous Threshold
Earth looked small from here.
Too small.
Silva stared at the planet beneath the fractured void while the convergence construct continued descending through orbit like an artificial moon built for extinction.
Cloud systems warped around it.
Lightning storms spread beneath its shadow.
Entire oceans shifted unnaturally under its gravitational pressure.
And still—
Humanity had no idea what was truly coming.
The swarm circled again.
Careful now.
Not hesitant.
Adaptive.
They had learned fear without understanding it.
Silva floated alone in the darkness, black-crimson energy pulsing steadily across his body. The veins stretching from the Iron Fist had spread farther now, thin glowing fractures crawling along his neck and collarbone.
Every pulse felt heavier.
More natural.
That terrified him more than pain ever could.
The converged entity faced him from across the battlefield, damaged but recovering.
Always recovering.
"Transformation threshold approaching."
Silva flexed his hand slowly.
The void around his fingers bent slightly.
"…You keep saying that."
"Because you continue approaching inevitability."
Silva smiled faintly.
Tired.
Cold.
"…Yeah?"
He lifted the Iron Fist.
"…Then maybe inevitability should start running."
The converged entity attacked instantly.
Silva moved too.
Their collision ruptured the void apart violently, black-crimson force slamming against concentrated erasure energy. The impact generated distortions large enough to ripple all the way down toward Earth's upper atmosphere.
Inside the extraction vessel below, warning alarms exploded across every system.
Cruz grabbed the nearest console.
"Report!"
The operator's face had gone pale.
"The orbital distortions are worsening—we're reading spatial fractures across multiple atmospheric layers!"
"…Can we contain it?"
Silence.
Then—
"…No."
Back in the void—
Silva drove his fist into the converged entity's chest hard enough to crack open its armor again. The entity retaliated instantly, slamming a distortion wave directly into Silva's side.
Pain exploded through him.
But this time—
Something was wrong.
Silva barely reacted.
He noticed it immediately.
And so did Lyra.
"…Silva…"
He wiped blood from his mouth slowly.
"…I know."
The pain felt distant now.
Muted.
Not because the attacks were weaker.
Because he was changing.
The converged entity stepped back slightly.
"Human sensory dependency deteriorating. Integration stabilizing."
Silva's eyes hardened.
"…Shut up."
He launched forward again.
Faster than before.
Too fast.
The Iron Fist no longer flared before movement.
Now the energy simply existed around him permanently, bending space continuously as though reality had accepted him as a distortion.
The converged entity blocked his strike—
But Silva's fist punched through the defense anyway.
CRACK.
The entity's arm shattered apart.
For the first time—
The converged being stumbled backward violently.
Silva stared at his own hand afterward.
Silent.
"…That shouldn't have happened."
Lyra's voice shook.
"…Your output just exceeded previous maximum levels by almost three hundred percent…"
"…Without charging."
"…Yes."
The black-crimson energy pulsed harder.
Almost proudly.
Silva clenched his jaw.
No.
He refused to think like that.
The Iron Fist was a weapon.
Not alive.
Not conscious.
Right?
The swarm attacked again before the thought could settle.
Hundreds of distortion spikes erupted across the battlefield simultaneously, surrounding Silva from every angle.
He reacted instinctively.
Too instinctively.
The Iron Fist expanded outward automatically.
Reality cracked.
The spikes shattered before touching him.
Then the nearest entities exploded apart immediately afterward, erased by the expanding field around Silva's body.
No movement.
No strike.
Just proximity.
The surviving swarm retreated several kilometers instantly.
Even the converged entity paused.
Silva stared at the devastation around him.
At the empty sections of void-space.
At the absence left behind.
And for the first time—
He felt afraid of himself.
"…Lyra."
Her voice came quietly.
"…I'm here."
"…Tell me the truth."
Silence.
"…How much longer do I have?"
The question hurt her more than any battlefield damage report.
She looked at the synchronization readings.
At the spreading corruption-like merger patterns overtaking Silva's biology.
At the horrifying compatibility percentages climbing higher and higher.
Then she answered.
"…I don't know."
Silva closed his eyes briefly.
Fair enough.
The converged entity suddenly raised one arm toward Earth below.
"Planetary convergence entering final descent phase."
The construct shifted.
Silva looked down sharply.
And his expression changed instantly.
The construct was accelerating now.
Slowly.
But undeniably.
It was getting closer to Earth.
Lyra panicked.
"…Silva if that thing reaches the atmosphere completely, the convergence field will activate!"
"…How long?"
"…Maybe minutes!"
Silva looked back at the converged entity.
Then at the endless swarm repositioning defensively around the construct.
And understood immediately.
They weren't trying to kill him anymore.
They were stalling him.
"Smart," Silva muttered.
The converged entity answered calmly.
"Victory conditions already achieved."
Silva smiled darkly.
"…You know what?"
The Iron Fist pulsed.
"I'm getting real tired of hearing that."
He moved.
This time not toward the entity—
Toward the construct.
The swarm intercepted instantly.
Thousands now.
Not hundreds.
The void disappeared beneath a tidal wave of entities rushing directly toward him.
Silva roared and drove forward through them like a living weapon. Black-crimson force detonated around him continuously as he punched through the advancing mass.
Entities vanished by the dozens.
Then hundreds.
But more kept coming.
The converged entity attacked from behind simultaneously, striking Silva across the back with enough force to send him crashing through multiple layers of distorted space.
Silva recovered instantly and counterattacked mid-flight.
Their collision detonated again.
The swarm closed around them both.
Everything became chaos.
Fists.
Erasure.
Distortion.
Black-crimson destruction.
Silva fought harder than ever before, every movement fueled by desperation now.
Not survival.
Time.
He needed time.
Earth needed time.
But the Iron Fist continued changing him faster with every attack.
The black-crimson fractures had spread across half his chest now.
His heartbeat sounded wrong inside his ears.
Too heavy.
Too deep.
And sometimes—
Between movements—
He heard whispers.
Not voices.
Urges.
More.
Complete the merger.
End the resistance.
Silva slammed another entity apart violently.
"No!"
The outburst echoed through the void.
Lyra heard it.
And fear tightened in her chest.
Because she couldn't tell anymore—
Whether Silva had shouted at the enemy.
Or at the Iron Fist itself.
The converged entity appeared directly before him again.
Its damaged body now partially reconstructed.
"You cannot preserve both humanity and victory."
Silva breathed heavily.
"…Watch me."
"Contradiction detected."
The entity struck.
Silva blocked.
The collision split the battlefield apart once more.
Then suddenly—
The converged entity grabbed Silva's arm.
Direct contact.
The Iron Fist reacted violently.
And for one horrifying second—
The entity connected to it.
Lyra screamed instantly.
"…SILVA BREAK CONTACT!!"
Too late.
The converged entity froze.
Its entire body trembling unnaturally.
Then it spoke again.
But differently this time.
Not calm.
Shocked.
"…Impossible…"
Silva's eyes narrowed.
"…What?"
The entity looked directly at him.
For the first time—
Not as data.
Not as resistance.
As something terrifying.
"You are not synchronizing with the weapon."
Silva froze slightly.
The entity's voice distorted violently.
"The weapon is synchronizing with you."
Silence.
Even the swarm hesitated.
And deep inside the Iron Fist—
Something awakened.
