THE IRON FIST — Chapter 174: Assimilation War
The void moved.
Not like an army.
Not like living creatures rushing toward battle.
More like a system activating.
The endless shapes emerging from the darkness advanced in perfect silence, their forms drifting through the fractured space with terrifying precision. Hundreds of them. Maybe more.
Silva couldn't even properly measure the distance anymore.
The void itself distorted around their presence.
And every single one of them was locked onto him.
Lyra's breathing sounded uneven through the connection.
"…Silva…"
He didn't take his eyes off the approaching swarm.
"…Yeah."
"…We need to retreat."
Silva stayed silent for a moment.
The Iron Fist pulsed heavily along his arm, almost like it was sensing the scale of what stood before them.
Then he smiled faintly.
Tired.
Dangerous.
"…Too late for that."
The converged entity stepped forward again.
Its cracked structure had already begun repairing itself, dark layers shifting smoothly across its body as damage vanished piece by piece.
"Planetary assimilation phase initiated. Resistance will be neutralized."
Silva rolled his neck slowly.
"…You really only know how to say creepy things, huh?"
The entity raised its hand.
And behind it—
The swarm accelerated.
The void exploded into motion.
Silva moved instantly.
The Iron Fist ignited with violent crimson light as he launched forward directly into the advancing mass.
No hesitation.
No fear.
Impact.
His first strike obliterated the nearest entity completely, the shockwave tearing through several more behind it.
But the swarm adapted instantly.
The next wave separated mid-approach, spreading outward to avoid the blast radius before collapsing back inward around him.
Lyra shouted.
"…They're coordinating in real time!"
Silva twisted midair, narrowly avoiding a distortion spike aimed at his head.
"…Yeah!"
He slammed his fist downward.
"…I noticed!"
The void ruptured beneath him.
Several entities collapsed under the force—
But more immediately filled the gaps.
No panic.
No emotion.
Just process.
Silva's eyes hardened.
"…Alright then."
The Iron Fist surged brighter.
He accelerated.
Now he moved like a storm inside the darkness, weaving between attacks while countering with brutal precision. Every strike tore apart space itself, sending shattered waves of crimson force through the swarm.
Entities vanished.
Reformed.
Adapted.
Returned.
And still they came.
One latched onto his arm.
Not physically.
Structurally.
Silva felt it immediately.
The thing was interfacing directly with the Iron Fist.
"Energy integration confirmed."
"…Get off."
Silva ripped it apart with his free hand—
But three more replaced it instantly.
The Iron Fist flickered violently.
Lyra's voice cracked.
"…Silva! They're analyzing the Iron Fist directly now!"
"…Then stop them!"
"…I'm trying!"
Inside the Source Engine far below Earth's atmosphere, Lyra moved frantically through collapsing streams of code and shifting system architecture.
The entities weren't just attacking Silva physically anymore.
They were probing the connection.
Learning the weapon itself.
And worst of all—
The Iron Fist was responding.
Not rejecting them.
Recognizing them.
Lyra froze for half a second.
"…No…"
Back in the void—
Silva punched through another incoming wave, breathing heavier now.
The strain was building.
Even with the Iron Fist burning at maximum output, the sheer number of enemies was becoming overwhelming.
Then the converged entity appeared directly in front of him.
Too fast.
Its hand slammed into Silva's chest.
The hit detonated through his entire body.
Silva crashed backward violently, tumbling through layers of distorted space before stopping himself.
Blood spilled from his mouth instantly.
The converged entity approached slowly.
"Your resistance is inefficient."
Silva wiped blood from his lip.
"…Yeah?"
He steadied himself.
"…Come say that closer."
The entity moved.
Silva met it head-on.
Their collision split the battlefield apart.
Crimson force erupted against collapsing void energy as both combatants exchanged attacks too quickly for normal perception.
Silva blocked a strike.
Countered.
Dodged another.
Landed two clean hits.
But the entity adapted immediately.
Every exchange made it sharper.
Faster.
Deadlier.
Silva's arm shook violently after another impact.
The Iron Fist flickered again.
And this time—
The converged entity noticed.
"Synchronization degradation accelerating."
Silva's expression darkened slightly.
"…Shut up."
The entity struck again—
But Silva caught its arm mid-motion.
For a moment—
They locked against each other.
Force against force.
Will against calculation.
The void around them cracked violently under the pressure.
Then the entity spoke quietly.
"You are afraid."
Silva froze slightly.
Just enough.
The entity's other hand pierced forward—
Straight into his shoulder.
Pain exploded through him.
Silva roared, driving his forehead directly into the entity's face before blasting it backward with a point-blank Iron Fist eruption.
He staggered away breathing hard.
Blood poured from the wound now.
"…Yeah," he muttered.
"…That hurt."
But the words lingered.
You are afraid.
Silva clenched his jaw.
Because the worst part—
Was that it wasn't wrong.
Not fear of dying.
Not fear of pain.
Fear of failing.
Fear that Earth truly could not survive this.
Fear that no matter how hard he fought—
This war had already surpassed him.
The swarm closed in again.
Hundreds now surrounding him from every direction.
Lyra's voice came softer this time.
"…Silva…"
"…Don't."
"…You can still come back."
Silva laughed weakly.
"…And let these things walk into Earth?"
No response.
Because they both knew he wouldn't.
The converged entity rose again from the darkness below.
Fully repaired.
Once again perfect.
"Resistance persistence acknowledged. Escalation approved."
The swarm suddenly stopped moving.
Silva frowned.
"…What now?"
Then he felt it.
The energy.
All of them—
Connecting.
Lyra's voice broke instantly.
"…Silva move!!"
Too late.
The swarm unleashed simultaneously.
A convergence beam.
Not light.
Not energy.
Erasure.
Silva crossed both arms instinctively as the attack hit.
And the universe disappeared.
There was no sound.
No impact.
No sensation.
Just pressure beyond comprehension crushing directly against his existence.
The Iron Fist screamed.
Not literally.
But Silva felt it.
The weapon was reaching its limit.
Cracks spread across the crimson energy surrounding his arm.
Silva gritted his teeth violently.
"…MOVE!"
Nothing.
The beam kept pushing.
The void around him collapsed layer after layer.
Lyra screamed his name through the connection.
Then—
Something changed.
Inside the Iron Fist—
A memory surfaced.
The old man again.
Florida streets.
Rain falling softly.
"Power isn't about winning every fight."
Silva's younger self frowned.
"Then what is it?"
The old man smiled faintly.
"Standing when nobody else can."
Silva's eyes snapped open.
The Iron Fist pulsed.
Once.
Twice.
Then—
Differently.
Not outward.
Deeper.
The cracks vanished instantly.
The crimson energy darkened slightly—
Becoming denser.
Heavier.
The converged entity reacted immediately.
"Unknown transformation detected."
Silva slowly lowered his arms.
Still inside the beam.
Still standing.
But now—
The beam wasn't pushing him back anymore.
It was bending around him.
Silva lifted his head slowly.
His eyes glowed brighter than before.
Not wild.
Focused.
Cold.
"…My turn."
The Iron Fist ignited.
And the void trembled.
