Chapter 16 - The Saintess—[2]

Silence permeated throughout the destroyed terrain.

The area around the spot where the "star" had landed was sunken into the ground. The "star" which was actually a girl had displayed a strength befitting a monster. Without even actively doing anything, she had exterminated double the amount of Mabeasts , which would've taken the group more than half an hour to take down the same amount as she had with a single action.

The girl looked around the area, inspecting the situation with full focus.

"It seems you all have taken out quite a bit of the Mabeasts, I presume?" She asked without even looking towards the ladies who were standing right behind her.

"Worry not, I shall deal with the rest. Both of you, crouch down please." She spoke in a voice, utterly empty of any form of warmth or emotions. Her phrasing started and at the same time ended all possibilities for a conversation.

"H-hm." Emilia quickly nodded and crouched down beside Merlin. With a silent chant she froze Merlin and Rom's abdomen, attaching them to the ground. She also did the same with herself and Priscilla, attaching both of them to the ground by freezing their foot.

This action wasn't appreciated by Priscilla as she stabbed her sword into the ground, melting away the ice at her foot. "The assistance of a half-wit shan't be required."

Gripping the handle of her sword extremely tightly, she crouch down with utmost elegance.

"Are you sure you can handle this...Miss?" Emilia voiced her worry for the girl. She tried to call out to her but had forgotten her name.

The girl grimaced a little, too faint to be noticed, but nonetheless she looked towards them.

In response, the girl simply pressed her right hand to her chest as she bowed slightly, not noticing the humongous Wappig right behind her. It's mouth wide open and ready to devour the entire body of the girl.

"MISS WATCH O—ut?"

Emilia's eye widened, her mouth rendered voiceless in dumbfoundment.

The Mabeast who was so close to engulfing her whole, stopped right in its path.

Before it could even let out a voice, it's head came slidding of its body and landed on the ground with a heavy thud.

The girl was still standing where she had been from the very beginning. She hasn't moved even a single inch. Or that was how it seemed.

She was still in her bowing stance, with her right hand on her chest but, her left arm was extended and...was holding a sword which had been sheathed on her side.

Then it clicked to both Priscilla and Emilia.

The action performed by the swordswoman had been fast, faster than what an eye could comprehend.

The reason that the pig's head had been decapitated was the girl herself.

She had drawn and swung her sword with such speed that even the world had to take a moment to register the action performed.

To others, it would've looked like a poorly animated scene, but that wasn't any further from the truth. An action that fast had looked like an action performed in a single frame, even to the human eye.

Slowly she raised her head as she proceeded to sheath the pristine sword in it's scabbard.

"A swordswoman from the Astrea lineage, Adelheid Astrea, at your service."

She turned away from them as she grabbed the sheathed sword by its handle.

Getting into her battle stance, her legs wide apart to gain more balance, her body hunched forward, she let out a breath.

Soon, the air around her started to vibrate. Light began to leak out from the scabbard as the mana from the surrounding started to vanish—no, it did not vanished, it obeyed to her will and rushed inside her gate, to provide her all the support she needed.

All of the Mabeasts sensing this became tense. They were soon overcome by fright as the only thing their instincts screamed was—Death.

The world slowed down.

Without wasting any further time, she drew the sword. Her attacked curved around her as she made a 360° slash.

As soon as she completed her action, the attack travelled so fast that left a glowing ring around her. The ring was merely the light that had failed to catch up to her attack.

The Mabeasts tried to run, to let out a scream or even to look at the attack, but failed in all of those tasks. Before even a single strand of fur on their body could wave in the air, the attack struck them.

Pure white light filled each of their vision. Their bodies evaporated in an instant. They weren't even able to register the pain from the attack, because nothing of their bodies remained to be felt.

To the observers, the light seemed like the light of judgement, bestowed upon the sinners by the heavens itself. It was divine.

As soon as the light dimmed down, it was followed by a huge explosion on all sides.

BOOM!!!

It was so powerful that it caused an earthquake through the Capital of Lugunica.

Emilia was covering her eyes with one of her arms and had frozen her other arm to the ground, because of the gust of winds from the explosion. Not only was the wind scorching hot, but it blew with such terrifying velocity that would put the strongest of the storms to shame.

Soon the winds calmed down. Emilia slowly lowered her arms from her eyes, still squinting her eyes to prevent the dust from entering in her eyes. But she soon dropped that as soon as she saw the damage dealt by a single attack of Adelheid.

Her eyes widened in astonishment and a slight hint of fear as she covered her mouth with her trembling palm.

"Oi oi, is this for real?" The voice came from Rom who had been knocked unconscious by Adelheid's stomp on his head, he was lucky that she had been considerate enough to ensure he didn't feel the full force of her landing. His unconscious state did not last long as he was woken up by the mini Earthquake produced by the red head.

"Truly amusing. It was worth mine time to have come here." Priscilla mused as she slowly stood up. The aftermath of that one devastating attack was an overkill, she'd agree on that. But to her, the sight was also amusingly beautiful.

Adelheid stood silently as she gazed upon the field, the work of her own hands.

That night.

With a single strike of Adelheid Astrea.

The eastern part of slums had been wiped off the map of Lugunica.

Truly a strength befitting a 'Monster'.

If that boy had seen this—

She turned around to look back at the unconscious Merlin, partly frozen to the ground.

—would he have still called her an angel?

With a self depreciating sigh she looked forward once again.

Where the Mabeasts had once stood, was now a cloud of dust, a cloud so terrifyingly large that it could be called a mountain without any hesitation.

Perhaps I have overdone it?
