Chapter 19 - Chapter 19: By a man of his build.

Jinxing found Guosheng waiting by his car, a paper bag in hand.

"Boss.." Guosheng bowed slightly, handing it over.

"I owe you one, buddy. I would've gotten them myself, but…" Jinxing trailed off, tone edged with fatigue.

Guosheng only nodded, he knew the man's expression too well.

After all, getting married and a family meeting on the same day? Even his boss needed a breather.

"Shall we go? I promised to drop you off.." Jinxing said, sliding into the driver's seat.

Guosheng muttered a thanks and got in.

They drove in companionable silence for a while before Jinxing suddenly asked "Tell me something. Why do women like all that matching couple stuff?"

Caught off guard, Guosheng scratched his chin. He didn't have a girlfriend, not even close but he could guess.

"Well… maybe it's like how men like seeing their women in their clothes. I think women enjoy showing they belong, dressing up with their men and all that."

Jinxing hummed thoughtfully. "Then should I give her a gift every day?"

Guosheng blinked. "Sir… are you asking me for relationship advice?"

A beat of silence. Then Jinxing raised a brow. "Is it possible to have a crush on your wife?"

Guosheng nearly laughed but managed to keep a straight face. "I mean… yeah, sure. That's kind of ideal, right?"

"I don't know.." Jinxing murmured. "I'm just asking what husbands usually do."

Guosheng shook his head in disbelief. "Sir, I'm not married. But if you want my opinion, start small. Observe her. See what she likes. For now, we know she likes cute things. Maybe next, learn her palette, the kind of food she likes."

Jinxing's lips curved faintly, thoughtful. "Cute things and finding the food she likes… sounds simple enough."

Guosheng exhaled. "Simple for normal people. Not for you, sir."

Jinxing smirked. "Touché."

Leaning one arm against the steering wheel, he added lightly, "Still, I expected you'd spend those bonuses on a woman, not a pool."

"Sir..." Guosheng said, deadpan, "a pool doesn't argue, nag, or ask where I've been. That's an investment, not a liability."

Jinxing laughed, shaking his head. He couldn't argue with that "Fair enough."

Guosheng smirked. "Besides, when I finally get a girlfriend, she'll see I'm serious material. I've got savings, a pool, and a stable job with a terrifyingly strict boss."

"Terrifying?" Jinxing echoed, feigning offense.

Guosheng closed the door with a grin. "Goodnight, boss."

Jinxing rolled down the window a little. "Don't drown in that pool before your next report's due."

Guosheng snorted. "I'll try not to. Drive safe, sir."

As the younger man disappeared through the gate, Jinxing lingered for a moment.

His gaze drifted to the paper bag in the passenger seat, the capybara slippers peeking out from the edge.

He exhaled softly, a faint curve at his lips.

So that's what his life in the not so distant future is going to be?

He wasn't sure whether to be alarmed or oddly… at peace.

Jinxing stepped into the quiet villa, the faint scent of jasmine tea lingering in the air. He set his keys on the counter and turned toward the kitchen, loosening his collar.

"Auntie Ma.." he called softly, "has Yunying eaten?"

The older woman looked up from wiping the counter, smiling. "Yes, sir. She had dinner a while ago. She's upstairs now."

Jinxing nodded. "Alright. Get some rest."

He climbed the stairs, exhaustion weighing on his shoulders. When he pushed open the door to her room, the lights were dim, the bed neatly made, the curtains swaying slightly from the night breeze. But Yunying was no where in sight.

He frowned. "Where did she go?"

Deciding to change before looking for her, he turned toward his own room and froze.

There she was.

Xu Yunying sat cross-legged on his bed, his phone in hand, wearing his shirt, the crisp white one he'd left folded that morning. It was far too big on her, the sleeves swallowed her hands, and the hem brushed the middle of her thighs.

When she looked up and saw him, her lips curved into a soft smile. She slipped off the bed and padded over to him, barefoot and unhurried.

Before he could speak, she reached up, fingers brushing his chest as she loosened his tie. "Welcome back, honey.." she said warmly, patting his shoulder as if it were the most natural thing in the world.

For a man who rarely lost composure, Jinxing felt his face heat instantly. His brain short-circuiting.

He raised the paper bag dumbly, words tripping over themselves. "I—uh—this is—uh.."

Yunying chuckled, effortlessly saving him from himself. She peeked into the bag and pulled out the matching pajamas.

"The darker one's yours, right?" she said, smiling at the other set, a soft white cotton, the one clearly meant for her.

"Y-yeah.." he managed to say, rubbing the back of his neck.

"They look even better than I imagined."

Jinxing, still halfway stunned, managed to find his voice. "Why… are you in my room? And why are you wearing my shirt?"

Yunying blinked innocently. "Hmm? Oh. It smelled nice."

He nearly choked. "What?"

She smiled wider, clearly amused by his reaction. "It smelled like you. And it's comfortable. Don't worry, I didn't wrinkle it too much."

He pressed a hand to his forehead, torn between sighing and smiling. "You really have no boundaries, do you?"

Yunying tilted her head, pretending to think. "Well, we are married, aren't we? Isn't sharing clothes part of the package?"

He met her gaze, that teasing glint in her eyes and for once, found himself speechless again.

Yunying stretched, wearing his shirt wasn't a big deal to her atleast, the gown she was wearing was uncomfortable, and she wanted to stretch her legs freely.

"Let's get changed, though.. you'll be taking a shower." She didn't do any skincare this night, her skin was perfect and one night without skincare wouldn't kill her.

Jinxing nodded and took off his shirt, Yunying eyed him. His back was broad and covered in scars, her guess was that he got them from the military.

She smiled to herself, not minding getting pinned down by a man of this build.
