Chapter 4 - The Forgotten Shadow

CONT. IN PROFESSOR EDMUND OFFICE

9-5-2025

12.30 p.m

Professor Edmund gestured toward the chair opposite his desk, his tone both commanding and cordial.

"Kaelor, sit. Tea or coffee?"

Kaelor hesitated for a heartbeat, then lowered himself into the chair. A faint smile tugged at his lips as he replied, "Okay, Professor. Ahh… coffee."

Professor Edmund handed Kaelor a steaming cup of coffee, then poured one for himself. Settling into his chair with an air of quiet authority, he leaned back. His gaze sharpened, and in a voice edged with a kind of iconic weight, he said—

"How is your research coming along? Any trouble you've run into? You seem rather tense these days."

Kaelor shifted uneasily, his fingers tightening around the warm cup. His voice carried a trace of frustration as he answered,

"Yes, Professor… I've ended up in a difficult circumstance."

Professor Edmund leaned forward slightly, his brows knitting with curiosity.

"What sort of circumstances have you fallen into, Kaelor?"

Kaelor lowered his gaze, the weight of his own words pressing on him.

"I tried everything—every path I could imagine—to conquer time itself. Yet I've ended up with nothing, nothing that could help me glimpse what lies hide."

Professor Edmund let out a quiet sigh, his expression softening with a hint of sadness. He studied Kaelor for a moment, then offered a faint, reassuring smile.

"Hm… so, what do you plan to do now? Failing once doesn't mean you've lost everything. Don't burden yourself with too much stress—and above all, never let yourself be demotivated."

After listening to Professor Edmund, Kaelor's voice rose, a spark of excitement igniting his features, and a proud smile tugged at his lips.

"Yes! I'm trying to understand the space hole…how it is, his work and to discover its exact location. I want to fulfill my purpose… to see what lies beyond time itself!"

Kaelor Con."I tried to build something—a device that could trace the space hole's energy pattern. But every calculation collapsed before it could stabilize."

Professor Edmund nodded thoughtfully, a hint of approval in his eyes.

"That's a good idea. Then, Kaelor, why not examine your grandfather's research specimens and his written works? Perhaps you'll discover something valuable—something that can truly help you."

Kaelor's voice trembled with a mix of anger and frustration, his fists clenching at his sides.

"Ahh… Great-Grandfather! Hmph. I'll check—if I can even find the time."

Professor Edmund's eyes widened in surprise, his voice rising slightly.

"What? You haven't even looked at them yet? Why not?"

Kaelor's voice sharpened, tinged with irritation.

"N… It's not that I haven't read them! I just… I don't care for his methods or the way he worked!"

Kaelor

N... Isn't mean I not read! I just not care about his way of things!

Professor Edmund's gaze softened, a hint of sorrow in his eyes.

"Why do you hold such resentment toward your late great-grandfather? And why do you try to avoid the topic whenever someone mentions him? He was a great man."

Kaelor's voice carried a mix of pride and irritation.

"Hmm… I never hated him or anything. I just feel…envious, I suppose. Everyone keeps talking about him—'He did this! He achieved that!' As if I, his grandson, should automatically be a genius too. I hate those who speak like that."

Professor Edmund smiled faintly, his eyes glimmering with quiet understanding.

"So, Kaelor… you wish to pursue your own path—without guidance—to show the world what you're capable of."

Kaelor's cheeks flushed faintly, a sheepish smile tugging at his lips.

"I guess… maybe. I don't know! But for my own sake, that's for sure!"

Professor Edmund laughed, a sparkle of amusement in his eyes.

"What an insolent little brat you are! Yahahaha! Always so stubborn, just like I hoped."

Kaelor's laughter burst out in response, bright and infectious, filling the room with a shared sense of mischief.

Professor Edmund's tone grew serious, a thoughtful weight behind his words.

"Remember one thing, Kaelor… sometimes people dedicate their entire lives chasing something they already possess."

Kaelor listened intently, absorbing every word the professor spoke, his brow furrowed in thought.

"Okay, Professor… I understand the lesson you're trying to teach me. I'll remember it in my life."

Professor Edmund's lips curved into a gentle, proud smile as he regarded Kaelor, his eyes shining with quiet approval.

Kaelor bowed his head slightly, a respectful smile on his face.

"Thank you, Professor. I'll take my leave now."

Professor Edmund's gaze followed Kaelor, his tone gentle but curious.

"Take good care. Where are you off to now?"

Kaelor's eyes gleamed with quiet determination.

"To the Liberty."

With a curious yet happy smile, Kaelor opened the office door. He stepped out, leaving Professor Edmund behind, and moved forward toward the library, each step filled with purpose.
