"I apologize for her actions," Harriet declared, her voice dripping with false sincerity. "I have no idea why she decided to show up here uninvited."
My jaw dropped in disbelief. "You're the one who called me, Harriet. What are you talking about?"
"Be quiet!" she snapped, her mask slipping completely. "Stop with these lies! I never asked you to come."
Harriet's fingers dug into my arm as she tried to pull me away from the crowd, but three imposing men stepped into her path. Alpha Darius's expression turned thunderous as he pried her hand from my arm with enough force to make her wince. "The only liar here is you," he growled, then surprised me by drawing me to his side.
