HARPER
This was my first day at work, and I was having lunch with my boss, Richard Brown, and Dominic, who had insisted he wanted to partake even though he had barely touched his food. We were in a fancy restaurant about five minutes away from the firm.
I glanced over at Dominic as I felt his eyes on me for the umpteenth time, a frown etched on my face, and I shot him a questioning look. He only shook his head, saying nothing. Then he pushed his untouched food to me without a word.
My eyes widened, and I shook my head. I was full. Mr Brown had nearly stuffed me with every damned food on the menu, and now Dominic wanted to do the same. Even though his plate of steak looked tempting, I wanted to have a bite of it.
"I don't think I can eat any…"
"It's okay," he said. "I can always toss it in the trash."
That was wasteful, and how could he say that when he wasn't even the one paying for the meal?!
