Wiping the blood from his mouth with the back of his hand, Cerberus lifted his head, his golden eyes burning with unmistakable irritation. Even wounded, even barely standing, the contempt in his gaze did not dim as he spat the words out.
"What did I even do," he snarled aloud, voice rough and accused, "that you have to treat me like a damn mutt?" His lips curled back as pain rippled through him. "You heal her eardrums without a second thought, yet the wounds you inflicted on me won't heal anytime soon. Damn it, they might not even be cured anymore!"
"Be grateful."
Hades's hand suddenly covered Evangeline's eyes. In an instant, darkness swallowed her vision, leaving her suspended in the void with nothing but the sound of his voice, sounding as chilling as usual but today perhaps even more malicious. "I was going to kill you," he continued calmly, "and it's becoming increasingly difficult to restrain myself."
