Chapter 22 - Emergency Retreat

Everything in me is screaming to run. An emergency retreat is seeming like the smart thing to do right about now. Risking my life further would just be a waste of time for Lumina.

Before she can respond to Iron Requiem I rush towards her and lift her off of the ground and begin to run as fast as I can. Listening to the sound of him laughing in the distance as he starts to fire off his pistols.

Each shot brushes past me, getting closer and closer with each shot he takes. Luckily Lumina was able to block some of the shots with her powers as I continue to run.

"We could've taken him." She says with disappointment in her voice.

"Ahh... Definitely not." I reply while fighting back the pain.

After a little while we get enough distance away from Iron Requiem to finally catch our breath. Not that she needed it since I was carrying her the whole way here.

So I sat her down and fell back against the wall of one of the buildings we are next to.

Drip. Drip. I could hear my blood hitting the ground as I lean against the wall, the pain still lingering throughout my body.

Stepping in front of her was definitely stupid but sometimes it feels like it is the right thing to do. She probably would've been just fine.

I'm just not a crappy human being who would let someone else get hurt if I can prevent it. None of this was easy to deal with so far either... That asshole was still going strong after everything we threw at him.

I knew villains aren't all weak but he really was something else.

That aura radiating off of his body and pistols was also quite insane. He was getting a constant surge of power from whatever that aura was.

"I'm sorry. I can hear it hitting the ground more clearly now. I didn't realize he hit you that good." Lumina says with an apologetic tone.

"I just need to get back to the commission and everything will be fine..." I reply while forcing myself to stay standing.

I'll definitely have a lot of awesome scars to show a woman in the future. This path is going to be filled with lots of dangerous people.

I will always need to expect to get hurt in a fight, even if I get stronger and stronger.

"Let's get back then. Give me your arm." Lumina says while reaching out for me.

I wrap my arm around her and we begin to make our way back to the commission. The streets weren't really busy around this district, it was quite a nice difference.

Even after all that fighting, nobody came outside to see what was going on.

Eventually we made it back to the commission tower without any problems. Everyone there just looks at this as something normal but this is life or death for someone like me.

"Take him to Misaki. She'll take care of his wounds." One of the women behind the desk say with a casual tone.

"On it." Lumina replies immediately.

I could see more blood hitting the ground as we got closer to the medical room but it would be fine once we got inside.

~Slots is current not active anymore. You'll be able to use it again tomorrow. The quest is still active but will be halted for the time being. (。ŏ﹏ŏ).

I figured as much since I took so much damage that I could use a bit of time to recover from this. Then again, the technology here makes that kind of thing an immediate recovery.

It still sucks that hospitals don't get access to this kind of tech. A lot of lives could be saved with any of the stuff we have here.

The door opens up in front of me as Misaki immediately takes me away from Lumina. "I'll handle him from here. Do you require any treatment?" Misaki asks while looking at her.

"I'm doing alright. Focus on him." Lumina responds with a bit of concern in her voice.

Everything starts to get dark around me as she brings me over to one of the tables in the medical room. I definitely hit my limit for the day.

It felt like it happened in an instant but I woke up.

~A few hours have passed since you were brought in. Misaki treated your wounds. <( ̄︶ ̄)>.

You weren't worried at all, were you?

~Of course not. The doctor knows what to do and you made it here in time. (≧▽≦).

Lovely.

The room around me was quite empty with Misaki just sitting across the room at her desk. It looks like she is taking down some notes on the computer but I couldn't really tell what it was.

But I didn't want to lay around in here any longer so I finally sat up from the bed. Feeling the pain in my stomach still there slightly, just it wasn't as bad as it was before.

"What's the rush Saito?" Misaki asks with a bit of curiosity.

"I just need to get stronger..." I answer weakly while forcing myself to stand up from the bed.

She walks over and stands right in front of me. "Your wound is healed but it still did quite a bit of damage to you." Misaki says while looking closely at me.

"I'll be fine. Thank you for stopping the bleeding." I respond before walking past her.

I'm not strong enough to deal with a villain like Iron Requiem... That means that there is a lot more for me to accomplish still. Working out and completing other quests will probably be the best way to do it.

Laying around won't be the way for me to get stronger.

"Just don't push it too much. Give yourself a day at the very least. Also Lumina said she'd meet you back at your room." Misaki says with some concern in her voice.

"Alright. I won't push myself too much." I respond before leaving the room.

Lumina is back in my room? I guess this will be interesting.
