Chapter 258: Betting
Five minutes before Leo and Tavian appeared in the arena ring—
The betting polls opened.
Tavian Gridfall's odds: 1.60
Leo's odds: 1.55
Maximum bet by a single person: 200,000 AC
Betting odds were determined by how likely the public believed each contestant was going to win, rather than by who would actually win.
If someone was seen as very strong and trusted by the public, their odds would be low—perhaps 1.2 or 1.4.
That meant low profit but also relatively safer.
On the other hand, if someone was uncertain, mysterious, or unpopular, their odds were high—like 2.5 or 3.0.
Higher risk.
Much higher profit potential.
The betting company, or the house, constantly adjusted these odds based on where the money was flowing. If too much money was being placed on one side, the odds would shift to encourage bets on the other side and keep the overall pool balanced to reduce risk.
Example:
Two fighters: A and B.
Most people believed A would win.
Odds:
A = 1.3
