Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Well-Intentioned Misunderstanding

Mo Jingchun glanced at the suitcase and the backpack on top of it, then tilted his head to look at his little sister, Little Candy, in the stroller, who was staring at him with big eyes.

For a moment, Mo Jingchun was a bit torn. It wasn't about whether to make milk powder for his sister Candy, but whether to drag the suitcase and backpack over to the water dispenser.

If he dragged it along, it would be cumbersome, but if he didn't, Mo Jingchun worried that the suitcase and backpack might get stolen.

After all, the items in the suitcase and backpack were quite valuable. Not to mention anything else, a single laptop in the backpack was worth a lot.

If it really got stolen, who could Mo Jingchun complain to?

After thinking it through, Mo Jingchun decisively took the suitcase and backpack with him to the water dispenser.

The location of the water dispenser was in the corridor of the restroom. A few steps further in, there were the men's and women's bathrooms.

Mo Jingchun didn't quite understand why the water dispenser was placed in such a location. He couldn't figure out why the place to get drinking water was arranged in the same area as the restrooms. Was it just to save a few meters of piping? Mo Jingchun wasn't sure.

No one contested Mo Jingchun for the spot at the water dispenser. Seeing Mo Jingchun's situation, everyone courteously let him get water first.

Anyone who saw a child, not yet free of boyishness, carrying a baby in one arm and dragging a suitcase, would instinctively take a second glance and mostly give way.

However, his appearance also gave some people different ideas, such as the lightly made-up young woman behind Mo Jingchun in line, who watched him vigilantly.

"Ya ya ya~"

Little Candy in the stroller stretched out her chubby hands, eager to hold the bottle. The little one didn't care if the bottle would burn her.

Seeing Mo Jingchun hesitating to give her the bottle, she seemed ready to cry to show her discontent.

Looking at his sister Candy, who pursed her lips, Mo Jingchun couldn't help but smile wryly. Right now, Mo Jingchun didn't dare hand the bottle to his sister. Not to mention her tender skin, Mo Jingchun himself found the bottle too hot to handle.

As he pushed the stroller away, Mo Jingchun didn't notice that someone behind him, after filling their cup, walked straight to a patrolling duty officer in the waiting hall.

The woman pointed at Mo Jingchun and Little Candy in the stroller, murmuring something to the tall, brawny, fully equipped policeman.

This scene, which Mo Jingchun, whose eyes were constantly on his sister Candy, had not noticed from the start.

Having found a new seat, Mo Jingchun retrieved a bottle of mineral water from his backpack and poured some into the hot bottle.

He capped the bottle and shook it, but Mo Jingchun still found the temperature a bit high.

"Wait a little more." Mo Jingchun flicked his sister Candy's little cheek.

Oh dear, Candy immediately became dissatisfied, her small tears starting to fall as she sat in the stroller and cried loudly.

When the little one cried, Mo Jingchun found himself with a bit of a headache.

"Candy, be a good girl, don't cry, okay? Brother will tell you a story."

Just then, Mo Jingchun found the light suddenly dimmed, and beside the stroller appeared a pair of somewhat shiny black leather shoes.

Looking up, Mo Jingchun saw two big words "POLICE" on the uniform.

Mo Jingchun looked at the tall policeman in confusion, his eyes a bit puzzled.

Chen Junqiang, holding a police-issued mobile phone in his left hand, saluted with his right hand before speaking seriously:

"Hello, please show me your identification, thank you for your cooperation."

Mo Jingchun was taken aback for a moment, then took his ID card from his pocket and handed it to the large hand.

Looking at his still-crying sister Candy, Mo Jingchun picked her up from the stroller, holding her in his arms.

In his arms, Candy stopped crying, but her eyes were glued to the bottle on the suitcase, unblinking.

Chen Junqiang used the NFC function of his police mobile phone to scan Mo Jingchun's ID card, and Mo Jingchun's identity information appeared on the screen. Chen Junqiang checked it, finding no issues with the identity.

"Mo Jingchun?"

"Ah? Yes."

Chen Junqiang frowned, asking, "The identity system shows you are only 18 this year."

Mo Jingchun was momentarily stunned. Was there something wrong with being 18? Did he look that old? Surely not.

"Yes, Officer, I took the college entrance exam this year, and I am indeed 18. I'm on my way to school."

Hearing this, Chen Junqiang's brow furrowed slightly.

"What's the situation with this child?"

"She's my sister."

After saying this, Mo Jingchun added, "My biological sister."

At that moment, Mo Jingchun finally realized that the police suspected he was trafficking children. It was also then that he noticed there was a lady...a beautiful aunt, sneaking glances at him from behind the policeman.

"You are going to school? Where are your parents?"

No adults, taking care of a baby, and claiming to go to school—no matter how you looked at it, it seemed unusual.

"No... no adults, just my sister and me."

Mo Jingchun's hesitant demeanor made Du Xiaohan, standing behind Chen Junqiang, even more convinced of her judgment. Similarly, Chen Junqiang, who had only frowned before, now looked very serious.

"Please show me your admission notice and a contact for your parents."

As Officer Chen Junqiang interrogated him, a crowd gradually gathered around them, people murmuring and pointing fingers.

Mo Jingchun wasn't deaf; he heard what the crowd was saying very clearly. It was nothing more than comments about never judging a book by its cover or being so evil at such a young age, already learning to traffic children.

Honestly, Mo Jingchun felt very uncomfortable, his nose tingling, and tears welling up in his eyes. But he gritted his teeth, determined not to let the tears fall.

After placing his sister Candy back in the stroller and handing her the bottle to hold herself, Mo Jingchun opened his suitcase, squatted down, and found his admission notice from Jing University and a brand-new household registration book.

Little Candy in the stroller happily sucked on the bottle, completely unaware that her brother was misunderstood and feeling wronged.

"A freshman at Jing University?" Chen Junqiang asked, surprised at seeing the admission notice from Jing University.

"Yes."

Someone in the crowd laughed, saying, "Could it be fake?"

But Du Xiaohan, behind Chen Junqiang, was stunned because she knew the admission notice was genuine. As a graduate of Jing University, she would recognize her alma mater's notice anywhere.

Faced with the crowd's skepticism, Chen Junqiang said nothing. Normally, no one would go to the trouble of faking an admission notice and carry it around.

Opening the first page of the household registration book, Chen Junqiang was stunned.

Mo Jingchun — Head of Household.
