Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: Nosebleed Plus Blood Phobia—Are You Stacking Buffs Here?

Chen Mu looked at the girl's face that Old He was carrying and felt a headache coming on.

He sighed softly.

"Wait a moment, I haven't changed the sheets on the examination bed yet."

"Once they're changed, you can put her down."

Old He nodded, "But you better hurry. This girl may not be heavy, but my old back is quite fragile now. If I carry her for too long, my back will hurt..."

Chen Mu had just thrown the disposable sheet from the examination bed into the trash can.

Upon hearing this,

he glanced back at Old He and said, "Got it. If there are no patients at the clinic later, I'll give your back a massage."

Old He beamed, "Ah! Dr. Chen, I was waiting for you to say that!"

As the girl was placed on the examination bed,

Chen Mu checked her pulse and then didn't touch her again.

Su Bingbing sincerely asked on the side, "Dr. Chen, aren't you going to check this patient?"

She's already unconscious, and there's no first aid at all?

Just watching her lie there? Ignoring her just because she's fainted?

"Old He, when you found this kid, were there some blood-stained tissues nearby?"

Instead of answering Su Bingbing directly, Chen Mu turned his gaze to Old He, who was sitting on a chair he found for himself.

"Dr. Chen, you truly have a sixth sense!"

Old He instinctively gave a thumbs up, "When I found this girl, there were indeed blood-stained tissues like you said."

"Tsk!"

"If I hadn't noticed that the exposed skin had no external injuries, I'd have thought someone beat her up."

Old He grimaced as he remembered the scene when he found the girl.

"Spending so much time at your campus clinic, I've come to feel that today's young people are so fragile. They easily end up on the ground, either fainted or unable to get up, not as robust as this over-fifty driver!"

Chen Mu yawned.

Pointing at the girl on the examination bed, he said to Su Bingbing, "She's like that guy who's here at noon, Guo Dayuan, always a visitor to the clinic."

"This one has sinusitis and sometimes gets nosebleeds."

Su Bingbing looked at Chen Mu skeptically, "Dr. Chen, don't fool me! Even though I'm not a doctor, I at least have basic knowledge! Can a nosebleed cause enough blood loss to make someone faint?"

Chen Mu sighed.

"Well, what if someone prone to nosebleeds also has hemophobia?"

Su Bingbing's brain almost stopped functioning, "Huh?"

Chen Mu: "This kid has hemophobia. Every time she has a nosebleed and wipes herself, she sees the blood and just collapses on the spot."

"At Hai City University, she's like an NPC; you never know when you'll randomly find her fainting from seeing blood."

Su Bingbing: "..."

She realized her ignorance.

"Whenever I see her, I usually check her head for injuries, and her body for scratches."

"And then, every couple of months, I suggest she go to the hospital to get a brain CT to see if she's had a concussion."

Su Bingbing: "..."

Looking in the direction of the unconscious girl, Su Bingbing sincerely sighed, "It's not easy for her to have lived this long."

"My wife said what I was thinking; living this long is really not easy."

"Honestly, fainting without warning at any time or place is quite terrifying. If it happens in the middle of the road, it can easily lead to problems."

"I'm from Hai City University, and I've actually found this NPC before. I remember screaming and running to the campus clinic, thinking someone had died on campus..."

"I've also found this NPC. Going to the clinic at that time, I was thinking there was almost a casualty, but the campus doctor was so calm."

"Nosebleeds combined with hemophobia, is this girl stacking buffs or what?"

"..."

"Dr. Chen, I'm sorry to trouble you again..."

As Chen Mu and Su Bingbing were talking, the girl on the examination bed woke up.

Seeing the very familiar campus clinic, she realized how she got here.

"Dr. Chen, which kind soul brought me this time..."

Chen Mu pointed in Driver He's direction.

The girl got up to go thank Driver He.

Driver He chuckled, "Kiddo, your condition is quite frightening. Maybe you should visit the hospital sometime."

Mentioning the hospital,

the girl smacked her forehead, "Dr. Chen, I actually came to the clinic looking for you. Lately, I've been having frequent heart palpitations at night, feeling like my heart is pounding, and then I can't breathe."

"A few days ago, I even took a leave to go to the hospital. I got all sorts of scans, but the doctors there said my heart was quite healthy."

Hearing this, Driver He quickly got up, offering the nearest chair to the girl.

"Dr. Chen, since you have a patient here, I'll take my leave. I'll come back when there's no one here!"

Without giving Chen Mu a chance to speak, Driver He left these words and quickly disappeared from the campus clinic.

The girl was still looking in the direction where Driver He vanished, standing there bewildered.

"He Xingchen, I remember that's your name?"

Chen Mu pulled up the girl's previous medical records from the computer.

The girl, now known as He Xingchen, turned her gaze back and obediently sat down on the chair Driver He offered, nodding, "Dr. Chen, yes, you remembered correctly."

Chen Mu first clearly noted He Xingchen's symptoms in the computer.

Then said, "Give me your hand, and I'll check your pulse."

"Well... does anyone else find He Xingchen's trust in Dr. Chen a bit absurd?"

"Same here... The big hospital couldn't diagnose the cause with all their expensive machines, but Dr. Chen can tell just by checking the pulse? I can't believe it."

"I don't believe it either; just checking the pulse can reveal the problem? What are those hospital machines for, then?"

"Ridiculous! This show's getting more and more far-fetched!"

"..."

After a minute.

Chen Mu released He Xingchen's wrist.

Facing He Xingchen's hopeful eyes, Chen Mu sighed lightly, "I'm sorry, just from checking your pulse, I can't determine the cause of your symptoms either."

"Is that so..." He Xingchen's eyes lowered in disappointment.

Even Dr. Chen couldn't analyze the cause; it seemed she would remain afflicted by this mysterious condition.

Seeing the disappointment on He Xingchen's face,

after some thought, Chen Mu said, "Maybe you can tell me about the timing of each episode and any other factors. We can try to find potential triggers for your heart palpitations."

Could there be another way?

He Xingchen's eyes lit up again.

Noticing He Xingchen's expression, Chen Mu quickly added, "I only mentioned trying to find the cause. I'm not sure it will succeed."

He Xingchen smiled and shook her head, "No problem. Dr. Chen is so capable; I believe you'll find my illness's cause!"

Chen Mu pulled a wry smile, "Don't kill me with kindness..."

Su Bingbing, on the side, continued watching the streaming room's chat messages on her phone.

Glancing up to see Chen Mu pulling out a blank sheet of paper, for some reason, Su Bingbing suddenly hoped Chen Mu could discover the cause of He Xingchen's ailment.
