Mrs. Huxley seemed a bit disapproving of her choice of dress: "Miss Lowell's dress today looks like a sky blue mermaid gown. If you wear red, it might appear as though you're trying to steal the spotlight."
"That's exactly what I intend to do—steal her spotlight."
The expression on Tina Huxley's face revealed a hint of viciousness.
Mrs. Huxley, mindful of Mr. Huxley's advice, took the dress from Tina's hand and tried to persuade her gently: "Doing this would embarrass your brother Justin. If Miss Lowell quarrels with him over this, it would be a considerable fault on your part."
"If they quarrel, so be it. It's a good chance for my brother to see her true nature."
Tina didn't think it was a big deal and even seemed quite justified, "Does she really think she's worthy of competing with me?"
"Alright, stop being stubborn now."
