"It's not that hard, after the single volume is officially released, please send me some. I want to give them to others," Akira Fujimiya said, taking the coffee from Tamura Nanako.
"No problem," Tamura Nanako replied with a smile.
Akira sipped the coffee and suddenly noticed a poster on the wall. He hesitated for a moment and looked at Tamura Nanako.
"Would you like me to draw a poster?" he asked.
"Do you… do you have a minute?" Tamura Nanako replied, glancing at Hikigaya Komachi beside Akira.
Komachi was quietly reading the Non Non Biyori new volume.
Though it had not been officially released yet, Akira had brought her along, and Tamura Nanako didn't see any issue with it.
"Komachi, I can give you its illustration. Do you want it?" Akira asked.
"I do!" Hikigaya Komachi's eyes lit up immediately.
"Does the editorial department have any drawing tools?" Akira asked, standing up and looking at Tamura Nanako.
"Yes, there is a special room where some mangaka draw," Tamura Nanako replied with a smile.
When Akira's mind went to the small, dim room.
Probably not ideal for a mangaka to draw in long-term, but it would be fine for a quick illustration.
A few minutes later, Akira approached the small room with the door open.
"Is this… a prison cell?" he muttered after seeing the room.
"Some can't draw quietly at home, so when they have a deadline, they come here to draw," Tamura Nanako explained, smiling.
"It's a very nice place, suitable for some," Akira said as he stepped inside.
"If you have any questions, you can call me," Tamura Nanako added, closing the door behind him.
Akira looked at the painting tools on the table and powered on the computer.
The poster didn't need to be highly detailed; it was just for his manga. He quickly chose a scene in front of the cherry tree and began to draw.
Four girls stood beneath the cherry tree, gazing at the village scenery. Cherry blossoms fell softly around them, creating a picturesque and serene scene.
After about an hour,
It was complete.
Akira reviewed the finished poster, saved the file, and sent it to his mobile phone.
Then he printed a copy, signed it with his pen name 'One' (いち), and stepped out of the room.
At the door, Tamura Nanako was waiting.
"Akira-sensei, is the illustration finished?" she asked, excitement in her eyes.
"It is is done. The rest is up to you, you can check it in the computer" Akira replied as he started to leave.
"Okay," Nanako said, glancing at the print in his hand.
"Print one for yourself and I'll sign it for you," Akira added, noticing her expression.
"Thank you, Akira-sensei," Nanako said, smiling brightly as she walked into the room.
She opened the file where the illustration were saved on the computer, sent it to her email, printed a copy, and then deleted the file from the computer.
The computer was shared by multiple mangaka, so some files were removed after sending it.
.....
Hikigaya Komachi was delighted to receive the signed illustration and treasured it carefully.
After Akira signed it for her, Nanako Tamura remembered his personal account, took a photo of the signed poster, and uploaded it.
It was also announced that Non Non Biyori second volume would be released soon, and the official version of this poster would be sold alongside it.
She decided to produce 10,000 copies of the poster at a slightly higher price.
She believed that even this number might not be enough.
Other merchandise, like Chibi Renge dolls, would begin production after the release.
Akira didn't need to participate in their design; the little Renge character was already cute and could be reproduced faithfully from the manga.
Once various merchandise appeared, his income would rise further.
Although still far less than the revenue of Future Comics Publishing House itself, Akira was happy to see his favorite series perform well.
He wanted Non Non Biyori to be liked by many people in this world too.
Tamura Nanako chatted with Akira about some leisurely topics.
The editorial department had high hopes for the manga, and everyone was eager to see the final results.
When discussing the Future Comics Publishing House online store, Akira learned about their pre-order system.
Before it's official release, pre-orders would determine print numbers.
The online store's bestseller list was usually dominated by action-packed series, but Tamura Nanako believed Non Non Biyori could rank in the top five.
The first volume had over 50,000 pre-orders in 24 hours, while the second had over 80,000—a significant difference.
Though, Non Non Biyori might not enter the overall bestseller list immediately, but it could rank top in pre-orders within 24 hours.
Akira glanced at the data.
Monthly sales ranged from 100,000 to over a million.
Even if fans purchased multiple copies, the publishing house could handle it without issues.
Ring-Ring-~
Tamura Nanako's cell phone suddenly rang.
She froze for a moment before answering.
When she answer the call, she stood up in shock.
"Is… is this true?" she asked, turning to Akira.
Akira looked at her, confused. "What is it?"
Tamura Nanako hesitated, then continue to her talk, her voice a mixture of awe and excitement could be heard.
After a long conversation on the phone, she hung up and faced Akira with a strange expression.
"Akira-sensei, Your...your manga has been selected as a teaching material for art classes."
"Huh?" Akira blinked in surprise.
Manga as teaching material?
"The caller said they wanted to invite you to give a lecture…" Tamura Nanako continued.
"I don't want to give a lecture," Akira said immediately without hesitation.
"...Okay, I'll handle refusing the invitation. Non Non Biyori will have an additional 300,000 copies printed," Tamura Nanako said after a moment of thought.
"I'll leave all of this to you. If anyone asks about me, just say I don't want to be disturbed," Akira instructed, standing up.
He was confused as to why Non Non Biyori was chosen as teaching material at first but he soon thought of the reason—
Yukinoshita Haruno had said the young lady liked one of his works.
Now, with it's upcoming release, it was immediately selected for art instruction—showing her influence and taste.
Once this news became public, Non Non Biyori would likely attract more attention.
Akira silently made a mental note to thank her personally when the opportunity arose and also to be very careful with her.
As he thought about how to express his gratitude, his phone rang.
It was Kana Sada.
He glanced at Hikigaya Komachi, who was chatting with Tamura Nanako, and answered the call.
"Young Master Akira, the deal is complete. One hundred seventy million yen. I've researched it and this price is reasonable," Kana Sada reported.
"Then let's acquire it. As for Miss Yukinoshita…" Akira asked.
"I just called. Miss Yukinoshita said that if you want a deal under one billion yen, her approval isn't needed. Your words are sufficient," Kana Sada replied softly.
"I understand. Acquire it and compile the list of voice actors and their experience in that agency, then send it to me," Akira instructed.
"Alright," Kana said, as she quickly wrote it down.
"President, please coordinate the arrangements. I have a friend who might work there," Akira said, slowly glancing at Hikigaya Komachi.
"No problem. I'll arrange it when the time comes," Kana Sada said, guessing that the friend was a girl and likely very capable.
After chatting for a few more words, Akira hung up.
He put away his phone, then after remembered something.
He quickly said Komachi that he had something to do and will return quickly while she read the manga.
As he quickly reach the office room—
He pushed open the door of Sato Yumiko's office.
"Akira-sensei, is there anything you need?" Sato Yumiko asked, looking up from documents, surpise by the sudden visit.
"If there's a program for training voice actors using content from Future Comics Publishing House Manga, can the company handle it?" Akira asked.
"In theory, yes. Though the mangaka own the copyrights, we can manage rights after signing a contract. We can oversee commercial use, even fan works are included in it," Sato Yumiko replied seriously.
"...I have acquired a voice actor agency to give new voice actors opportunities and offer a different experience to the audience," Akira explained, walking into the office and closing the door.
"If that's the case, as long as the manga are serialized by us, they can be used freely, without notifying the mangaka," Sato Yumiko said with a smile.
"I understand. Then, I'll give Kana Sada the list of animation works for the next two years and let her evaluate the feasibility," Akira nodded.
...
After leaving the office, Akira quick went to find Hanada Yui to learn about manga software.
By the time he was done with his work and return to Komachi and Nanako—
He show that Hikigaya Komachi was waiting their with a bag, full of manga from Future Comic Publishing House.
"These were lent to me by Nanako nee-san! Do you want to look, Fujimiya nee-san?" Hikigaya Komachi asked, smiling brightly.
"It's getting late. We should find your brother; he must be anxious," Akira said, taking the bag.
"Goodbye, Nanako nee-san," Hikigaya Komachi waved.
Nanako Tamura watched her go as she waved back, finding the little girl very charming and obviously getting fond of her.
.....
Downstairs at Future Comics Publishing House,
Akira stopped a taxi, as the two of them got in the back seat.
"Akira nee-san, there are so many girls who like you…" Hikigaya Komachi said softly, looking at him.
{Note: I am going to used Akira for Akira-sensei, Akira Onii-san or Akira nii-san from now on}
