Chapter 26 - Ch-26 An Old Disciple ( Bonus Chapter )

For the first time in a long, long while—Hiruzen Sarutobi, the Third Hokage of the Leaf, walked out of his office. The day was still long and even the sun was at its peak, yet the old man walked wistfully, occasionally nodding at the villagers who revered him.

A soft smile graced his face—the Leaf Village, something he had sworn to protect.Something entrusted to him by his sensei Tobirama Senju; it was one of his greatest privileges... and also his greatest responsibility.

He picked up his pace. Despite his aged-looking body, he was still agile, fast, explosive. His figure disappeared from the eyes of ordinary citizens before traversing the rooftops.

SWOOSH

The wind hit him with a freshness he couldn't quite experience in the office. Yet unlike many days where he was swarmed by work, today he was smiling.

He crouched upon a rooftop, overlooking a women's bath—a hot spring situated within his very own village.

His muscles twitched, a small urge overcoming his thoughts, 'Should I take a look from here'... yet despite the excitement and his perverted nature, the thought of his responsibility—and the angry face of his wife—appeared in his brain.

Shaking his head, he smiled as he focused on something else. 'There you are, you little brat, finally back from that accursed land after all.'

His eyes were locked on a familiar figure.

A huge physique, enveloped by a rough block of white hair... the man was draped in red clothing with a huge scroll behind his back.

Hiruzen smiled softly as he saw the man laughing to himself, overlooking the naked girls. 'That brat... he hasn't changed a bit since so long.'

Yet a soft feeling overcame his heart—he loved his disciples through and through.Letting chakra overlap his legs, he moved through the rooftop with an unnatural grace.

Appearing right before the Sannin.

"Fun, is it now?" he asked, whispering directly in his ear.

Jiraiya, who was too busy looking at the women, screamed like a little girl. "Aaaahh!!"

The effect was immediate: the girls, overhearing the screams of a man so close, fell into panic, thrashing and leaving the bathhouse at once.

Jiraiya too ran without looking back; shivers ran up his arms as he remembered the horde of women that chased him in every village.

He couldn't help but look to the side, his jaw hanging open as he looked at his teacher running alongside him, staring at him meaningfully.

"Ran far enough now, child," Hiruzen spoke with a sage-like voice.

...

Jiraiya sat in the office with a bored look on his face. "What is it now, old man? I told you I would help in the war, right—so what's the problem?" He slightly tilted his head, expecting some answer.

However, Hiruzen calmly looked outside his window, the soft sun rays falling on the Leaf, illuminating the village in an ethereal light.

"You still believe in the Will of Fire, brat?" Hiruzen spoke, his eyes completely focused on the view.

Jiraiya grumbled to himself, "Obviously, sensei."

"There are two children, both talented in their own right," Hiruzen's eyes sharpened. "You know my intuition so don't doubt it." He turned toward his white-haired disciple. "These two—I believe they will be crucial to the future of the Leaf."

Jiraiya didn't even ask the names of the children. He just stared at Hiruzen with a knowing look. While the man pretended to be dumb and clumsy, Jiraiya was the epitome of a ninja.

And most of all, he loved his village. He turned toward the view, this time finally feeling the rays of sunlight fall on his skin. "What do you want me to do, old man?"

Hiruzen couldn't help but smile. 'Had I asked the other two... they would have definitely used some excuse to pass it.'"Nothing much. There is a Jonin exam soon. Be their proctor."

Jiraiya merely looked at Hiruzen once before sighing. 'There goes my vacation.'

...

Kyojiro panted as he withdrew from his training for the day. The grass beneath him lay crumbled—the trees around scorched and slashed.

The air felt chilly to the man soaked in sweat, and despite the pain in his muscles and veins, he stood there contemplating the one single question that had been haunting him since his awakening.

'Why can't I use this breathing style to its maximum efficiency?'

Kyojiro clenched his fist as he overlooked the lake in front of him. The water flowed unperturbed by his gaze. 'I have a better physique than any Hashira.' He clenched his sword tighter. 'My nerves, my instinct and even my intuition are leagues apart from the strongest of their world.'

Yet as he overlooked the horizon, he couldn't help but feel small. 'I understand progress comes slow—I know that more than anyone,' his jaw tightened, 'but I can't understand the why.'

He tried to think of many reasons: the merging of two souls bringing conflict in his body, or maybe the memories of Rengoku being blank somewhere... despite his many reasonings, the questions remained unanswered.

After a while, instead of letting the anxiety consume him, he picked up his sword.

SWOOSH

SLASH

His figure danced through the air in a strange manner—sword forms turned into a symphony of steps and moves.

His sword, a new one he just took from the armory, barely handled the load.

Kyojiro couldn't help but feel a pit in his stomach. 'My precious sword... is truly gone.' He turned toward his new blade; the gray metal looked unfamiliar despite its similar size.

His brows clenched. 'No matter.' He moved once again, his figure dancing through the air. 'Once this is all set and done—I will personally issue a sword that would never break.'

For now, his focus was on something else. 'The Jonin exam... They say it's a simple mission, but I know it's far from it.'

Kyojiro Uchiha overlooked the horizon once more, his blood pumping through his body. 'No matter who is in my path... my swordsmanship will cut through it.'
