Chapter 21 - The Girdle in the street

AN: This chapter is a bit of a Filler. Hope you still enjoy.

(Pov: Narration)

It was loud. Noise and chatter reverberated through the streets in the Center of the city. Pedestrians with or without their families entered shops and cafes alike, everyone set on enjoying the weekend.

In the midst of the street, a group of loud girls could be made out, laughing and giggling as they slowly and purposelessly traversed a street. Each one of them had different Quirk, something which made them more distinct or noticeable.

Among them, there was a girl who was simultaneously noticeable and forgettable. It may have sounded like something controversial to say, but it simply was the reality of the situation.

Her looks were simply... plain. For looking at her would result in no more than seeing a floating outfit.

The girl's name, was Toru Hagakure. Her Quirk: Invisibility. There was no need for further explanation.

So, either people saw her and took a double take at the floating clothes, or they simply didn't notice her.

Despite her predicament, she remained in the middle of her group, loudly chattering with unbounded excitement.

The group of girls continued their slow walk, dodging pedestrians and pausing briefly to glance at shop windows. Their conversation bounced from one topic to another, light and aimless.

"Did you hear?" One of them asked. "Some villain tried to rob a bank some days ago!"

"Oh Yeah!" another replied. "I heard there so many Heroes at the place too. Yet none of them jumped in. Crazy right? Just how strong was that villain?"

"Not strong enough. For HE WAS HERE!"

More Laughter ensued at Toru's All Might impression, their conversation soon drifting into more mundane topics, concerning news, Heroes and whatever more came to mind.

In midst of the conversation, the invisible girl's presence kept being ignored, only being addressed when she showcased her presence through commentary or joke. Her presence remained unnoticed, people bumped into her whenever she drifted too far from the group, her friends sometimes not even noticing such instances.

Despite that, the girl remained cheerful. Constantly butting into her friends conversations or loudly laughing at a comment.

Any outsiders looking at the group, arrived at the same conclusion. Just a happy group of friends, adding onto the nice and comfortable atmosphere of a beautiful weekend.

Then, a few steps ahead, the noise dimmed.

The laugher and chatter seemingly faded as people stepped aside, intent on avoiding the two figures which bore so much opposing contrast to the lively atmosphere.

The group of girls did the same, their conversation dying down as their gazes remained fixed on both figures.

The smaller figure dressed in black, his head that of a bird. Everything about him, his tone, posture, gaze and even his words conveyed a serious character.

The Second figure... was the main reason for the attention they received. A gigantic figure, practically twice the height of the bird-headed boy and built to rival All Might, wearing a clearly specially fitted outfit. His features all but human, showcasing wings instead of eyes, exposed teeth and a tail the length of a person dangling from behind his head. The strangest thing was the bronze-ish wheel floating above his head.

The bird-headed boy spoke with a calm deep voice.

"Riku. How do you reckon is UA going to accommodate you for your written exam?"

Toru's attention immediately snapped over to their conversation.

'These two... are joining UA..?'

The taller figure opened his mouth.

"YEHT LLIW YLBABORP EVIG EM NA LARO MAXE."

The strange looks the two figures already garnered turned even stranger.

The voice of the strange giant was deep and guttural, as if emerging deep from his throat. Several people stiffened at the voice, it's intonation simply uncomfortable on their ears. Despite that...

"I suppose so. Although i confess, i did not expect UA to invite you to an interview just for the sake of a written exam. They certainly put in quite the effort for their students."

'What the hell. He understood that?!?'

The boy's voice had been casual, as if having understood every part of mutant's speech.

Toru's thought's soon returned to the more important matter as the two walked past her group and her body immediately stiffened.

These two would be her competition at UA.

Her friends exchanged glances as they noticed the unmoving outfit staring after the two boys.

"Toru...These two look a bit...intense? You sure you'll be okay at your Exam?"

The words were spoken quietly, like a meager attempt at having her realize just what she signed herself up for.

Then, after a moment of silence, a cheerful voice emerged.

"These two? Pfft, they're lightwork! There is no way the great master Toru will be overshadowed by these two. UA has better be prepared for me!!!"

Her light hearted comment calmed her friends worry and the group soon continued on their way, their talk and chatter continuing, as if having forgotten about the the interruption.

This sight however, remained etched into the cheerful girl's brain, a stark reminder to the effort it would take for her to qualify for her dream.

(Pov: Masaki Shindai)

'Mmhm. That's a lot of words.'

Masaki Shindai, father and best husband ever was currently staring at… words.Lots of them, in fact.

In front of him lay six pages of documents from U.A., each filled with dense legal stuff.

Clause 1: "U.A. High School shall not be held responsible…"

Clause 2: "In case of physical or psychological harm, refer to Clause 1."

Clause 3: "In case of accidental dismemberment, partial or total incineration, collapsing infrastructure, awakening of God, refer to Clause 1."

'I don't think there is much point in reading all 6 pages.'

He was currently going through papers for Riku's application to UA. At first, he had considered sending them back a letter in similar style, clarifying that the Shindai family would not take responsibility for whatever the hell Riku would do to their school... but he changed his mind upon informing himself a little.

It turns out, UA high had been the place for Riku all along.

They seemed to have literally everything one could need. That happened to be just exactly what one needed in order to deal with a wild All Might-sized Mutant.

'Still, why is awakening of God and incineration in the same category?'

Masaki put down the paper and rubbed his temples. As the certified legal Father of the Quirkonstrosity called Riku, his abilities to adapt to situations had greatly improved i tandem to his son's own growth.

He knew the best thing to do, was simply skip through the pages and sign whatever the hell this was.

Still... he was curious.

Masaki squinted his eyes and then reached out to the paper, flipping it's page.

Clause 10: "If a student's structural integrity is compromised due to unforeseen quirk interactions refer to clause 1."

Clause 11: "In cases of bio-physical spatial events including but not limited to: implosion, explosion, inversion, spontaneous duplication, spatial folding, refer to clause 1."

'Nah, he'll be fine.'

Masaki flipped all the way to the end and signed, then slapped the document back into it's folder and headed into the kitchen.

He had full confidence that Riku would make sure to never be the one on the receiving end of these events. If anything, he'd be the one causing them.

His only real worry was whether he had overlooked a clause requiring parents to pay for damages.

Because damage was absolutely going to happen.

'Hmm, maybe i really should send that letter.'

Just to make sure U.A. fully understood who exactly they were letting through their gates.

Masaki's gaze drifted toward a framed photo, in which he and his wife were proudly smiling on either side of their son.

Their two-meter-tall, muscular, wing-headed, tooth-bearing, tail headed son.

Riku was in the very center of the picture, staring a bit too much into the wrong direction. He looked like a spatially challenged Angel.

And no, Masaki wasn't talking about the little chubby cherubs people liked to show in churches.

He meant the kind of angel that probably kicked down the gates of hell, slapped Satan across the face, and told him to behave in God's name.

Masaki stared at the photo for a long moment.

'…Yeah. U.A. definitely deserves a warning.'

He stood up with a sigh and headed to his Laptop and began typing.

(Meanwhile, Pov: Riku Shindai)

"Raa...- raahh- RAAAGHCHOOO"

A guttural Blast of air escaped through his mouth, shaking the air like a miniature storm. Being a well-mannered Mahoraga, he had obviously covered his mouth as he sneezed... well, if you could call it sneezing when he lacked a nose.

'I sneezed? Is someone slandering me?'

He ignored the wide-eyed people staring at him, it wasn't his problem if they thought a sneeze to be so fascinating.

Tokoyami walked beside him, calmly adjusting his scarf, seemingly unfazed by the attention... although his emotion clearly portrayed his discomfort and slight shame. Nevertheless, he remained stone-faced, not allowing a sliver of such emotion to rest on his face.

Riku however, did kind of enjoy people's reactions. Sensing their confusion and reactions to his looks and mannerisms was a fun past time whenever he was bored.

Twitching his wings or swinging his tail was enough to solicit a bunch of reactions. Children grabbing onto their parents hands. People whispering. Some insensitive fucks even took out their phones.

Despite that, he simply kept walking. Even if he got a bit embarrassed by people's comments from time to time, it wasn't as though anyone could tell.

-

The crowd parted in front of the two as they finally approached upon their destination.

The Mall. More specifically, the food court.

Riku's Cursed energy scanned the assortment of stalls for their different meals. It wasn't exactly useful, because... Cursed Energy based sensing didn't replace his lacking sense of smell, so he simply followed Tokoyami who led him to a small spot.

The spot wasn't particularly hidden, but it gave them enough distance from the main crowd that Riku could eat without turning the experience into an accidental spectacle.

He could feel the curious glances from a few people nearby, but it was nothing compared to the chaos that would erupt if he sat in the center of the hall.

As to the reason for why he was so careful?

His way of eating... just wasn't pretty. In fact, it was probably pretty disgusting.

And while he did enjoy teasing reactions out of people, that did not mean he enjoyed destroying their appetite.

The most he could do, was chew quietly or swallow in one go. Both were simply not pleasant. For all parties involved. So Riku often hurried to finish his meals.

Barring the uncomfortable topic of food, he and his friend soon finished their meal in silence. Then, Tokoyami spoke.

"So, what do you think will it be for the exam? The practical one."

The answer came in form of a shrug and a familiar ear-ringing, accompanied by it's gibberish.

(Whatever it is, we'll be fine.)

A wave of amusement and light exasperation rolled off Tokoyami as he rebuked.

"Be that as it may, preparation already makes half the Hero. It would be advantageous to prepare for different Scenarios."

(Maybe we will fight their teachers.)

Tokoyami only sighed as he heard his friends unserious answers.

"Very well." he muttered. "I suppose your reason on approaching this exam with such... casualness is far from unfounded."

Riku's grin only widened in answer.

MASAKI EMAIL: PENDING.

---------------------

To the Esteemed Administration of U.A. High School,

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing regarding the legal documents we received for my son, Riku Shindai.

After reviewing the provided legal clauses, I was impressed by U.A.'s comprehensive approach to liability, particularly Clause 1 and the subsequent 48 clauses that refer directly back to Clause 1. The efficiency is admirable.

In light of these documents, I would like to formally clarify the following:

1. The Shindai family shall not be held financially responsible for any damages occurring on U.A. property as a result of:

-Unforeseen Quirk interactions

-Partial or total destruction of school infrastructure

-Spontaneous environmental alteration

-Structural collapses (intentional or unintentional)

-Dimensional anomalies

-Manifestation of large mythological constructs

Or any similarly unpredictable occurrences perpetrated in any sort of proximity to Riku Shindai. Please consider this email a formal statement of non-liability.

(Fully aligned with and inspired by your own Clause 1)

We believe this mutual non-responsibility forms a healthy foundation for our long-term relationship as parents of a U.A. student.

Thank you for your understanding.

Sincerely,

Masaki Shindai.

CHAPTER END

AN:

Feed on this, peasants.

This one hereby allow thou to scramble for scraps. Although this one's answer shall depend on the current mood.

-

But in all seriousness, this chapter is an attempt at "Character Humanization." I'm trying to flesh them out, showcasing their personalities some more after the time-skip. That's why some of the interaction might seem pointless.

I'll also use this as an opportunity to ask. Do you want Riku's speech to feature both Gibberish and meaning? It doesn't make a difference whether i write both or not. If you only want the meaning without his Gibberish, it'll keep be written in (BOLD) style.
