Chapter 19 - Chapter 19: Bodyguard

On a sunny morning, Joseph said goodbye to his wife and drove to the company. After retiring from the company's operations department yesterday, he joined the security department and got his first client.

He has been a mercenary for several years. He has fought in many wars over the years and his hands are stained with blood. Although he has no guilt, the battlefield is ever-changing and any accidents can happen. He might die in one of the operations.

He couldn't die so early as he had a wife and two children to take care of. He finally decided to stop being a mercenary and transfer to the security department to be a bodyguard. Although he didn't earn as much as he did as a mercenary, the working environment was completely incomparable.

He was chosen by a client just after he transferred to another department yesterday. This was mainly because of his outstanding resume. He came from the special forces and had fought in dozens of battles, big and small. Also, he was always low-key, calm and reliable in his dealings with others.

However, after reading the client's information, he was a little hesitant, because Andy, whom he wanted to protect, was too young. There had been too many reports about Andy recently, and he was worried that the young man's rebelliousness and the behavior of venting hormones everywhere would bring a lot of trouble to his work.

Especially since Andy is still a young billionaire, and it is impossible to understand his temperament and character now. In any case, his future work will not be simple and easy.

Just as he was struggling with this, his department manager reminded him, "The client is a writer..." Since he was a writer, his job scope would be much narrower. He wouldn't be constantly traveling, as writers generally prefer to stay home. Even if he did, his business trips would be short, allowing him to balance family life. So, he agreed, and he and another bodyguard would work together to protect Andy Smith.

Andy's bodyguards were all selected by Carl. Age, qualifications and family were his primary selection criteria. Young, inexperienced, bachelors and those who were not good-looking were all rejected. According to Andy's previous playful temperament, the people who protected him must be calm and patient. After comprehensive consideration, Joseph, who had rich practical experience, and Kenny, who had protected many movie stars, were finally chosen.

After receiving their equipment and certificates from the company, Joseph and Kenny drove to Mockingjay Copyright Company to meet up with Carl.

When Andy met them, he was punching a sandbag with no apparent purpose, simply sweating profusely. The sandbag thumped loudly from his immense strength. Joseph and Kenny glanced at each other, each seeing surprise in the other's eyes. The strength Andy displayed was astonishing, no less than that of these powerful soldiers. It was simply incredible. After all, they had only become so powerful after years of systematic training.

Andy is so young, the strength displayed by his body is simply unreasonable, unless he is born with supernatural powers. Thinking of this possibility, Joseph and Kenny's eyes flickered, and they looked enviously at Andy Smith who stopped exercising and hugged the sandbag.

"Andy, these two will be responsible for your safety from today on." Carl handed the towel to Andy and introduced them. "This is Joseph, he's from the Special Forces and has extensive combat experience. This is Kenny, he used to be a bodyguard for Cage and Tom Cruise and is very experienced."

Andy quickly wiped the sweat off his hands with a towel and walked over to shake hands with the two men with a smile on his face. "Hello, I'm Andy Smith. My safety is in your hands from now on. If you have any suggestions, just tell me directly. I will do my best to cooperate with you."

Joseph and Kenny exchanged a secret glance. Andy left a good impression on both of them. As for his temper and personality, that would require further observation. "Hello, Mr. Smith. I'm Joseph and Kenny. Don't worry, we will keep you safe."

"Haha, thank you for your help. Okay, I'll show you around the house first. I usually spend most of my time at home writing novels, but recently there have been a lot of reporters and fans outside, so Karl thinks I should increase security.

I share this sentiment. It's better to be proactive than proactive. You're experts in this area. Just tell us what you need and how you want it done." From the moment the media exposed his assets, Andy knew he needed protection. He wasn't the fool who demanded freedom over bodyguards. His happy life had just begun, and he didn't want to be easily snatched away.

Joseph is an offensive expert and Kenny is a defensive expert. They had been observing and considering the security of Andy's villa when they were outside. For them, this was a familiar task and not troublesome.

"In addition to the indoor security system, I suggest you install infrared and thermal sensors on the periphery, and install surveillance cameras on all the trees near the street. Of course, it would be best to get two more dogs." Joseph suggested with a serious face.

Andy felt like he was in a state of panic. Was there really a need to set up machine guns on either side of the door? He looked at Kenny with a ridiculous expression as he nodded in agreement with Joseph's suggestion. He said hurriedly, "Hey, guys, it's not that serious, is it?"

"Boss, although the security in the wealthy area is good, your villa has no walls to protect it. Only a low fence can't prevent strangers from breaking in. We need to have full control of all the situations around us." Joseph patiently explained to Andy.

"I... Well, okay, you two can discuss it. Just buy whatever you need. It's up to you." Andy shrugged helplessly. For his own safety, he should listen to the experts.

Joseph nodded seriously and pulled Kenny aside to discuss the purchase of the equipment. Carl touched his bald head, very satisfied with the professionalism of the two bodyguards. Now he could rest assured about Andy's safety.

"Alright Andy, just leave the security issues to them. Should we get ready to go to San Francisco? Nelson's already called, and the game company has basically finalized the deal. Now we just need you to go over and sign and pay."

"GOOD! That's great. No need to prepare anything. Let's go to the airport right away and leave now!" Andy was excited. The game company's problems were finally going to be solved. He didn't want to wait any longer. Some creative ideas had to be produced as soon as possible. The advantage he had was time.

Carl was dragged out of the house by the anxious Andy. Under the protection of the giant Joseph, he squeezed open the door surrounded by paparazzi and got into the business car.

Watching the paparazzi, who were like people with steroids, constantly knocking on the car windows and scrambling for positions to take photos, Andy felt for the first time the distress of being a star and the somewhat inflated vanity in his heart. He seemed to like the feeling of being sought after very much.

"Haha, these paparazzi are really crazy. Andy, you are the hottest news point now. By the way, there are several talk shows that hope you can participate. Are you interested?" Carl likes the feeling of being sought after. Although he is not the protagonist, he has contributed partly to the protagonist's success. What's more, he likes the joy and satisfaction brought by this success.

"Oh? What programs are there? Is there 'The Oprah Winfrey Show'? Are they some programs with low ratings?" As the windows of the business car did not have special film to block the camera's shooting, Andy had to maintain his image with a charming smile and asked jokingly.

"Cough cough cough..." Carl, who seemed to be choked by something, turned his head to the side and coughed lightly a few times, not looking at Andy's face for fear of embarrassing him.

"What's wrong? Is there any problem?" After the business car rushed out of the paparazzi's encirclement and accelerated to shake off all the reporters, Andy relaxed and looked at Carl with a strange expression and asked blankly.

"You really don't remember?" Carl seemed to have thought of something, his expression became more and more weird, and the fat on his face twitched a little.

"Remember what? Just tell me!" Andy was even more confused and asked unhappily.

"It's nothing, actually. It's just that during the time you were quiet, you were often photographed drunk and fooling around with all kinds of women. At a book club, Oprah once publicly criticized you, saying that you were willing to..." Carl's voice became lower and lower, as if he didn't want to embarrass Andy, so he didn't continue.

"Ha, is that true? Why don't I remember it?" Andy laughed dryly and touched his nose awkwardly.

"If you don't remember, just pretend it never happened. Even if she didn't invite you, NBC's Saturday Night Live and CBS's The Ellen Show have both sent invitations, and I think you should go. After all, we are partners with NBC, and CBS is also negotiating with our company for the copyright of If You Are the One. They are very sincere." Carl hurriedly changed the subject, a cunning flash in his eyes, and he persuaded with saliva flying.

"Ha, let me be the musical guest on Saturday Night Live? I can participate in The Ellen Show." Andy didn't expect that these two shows would invite him. He liked The Ellen Show very much in his previous life, but he didn't expect to be invited to the show now. It would be a lie to say that he was not excited. Saturday Night Live is known as the number one variety show in the United States. If you haven't been on the show, you would be embarrassed to say that you are a person in the entertainment industry.

"You agree? That's great. I thought you were going to find another excuse to turn it down." Carl was a little surprised to hear Andy agreed to be on the show.

"Tsk, what's so surprising about this? Things have developed to this point. It would be too fake if I still acted hesitantly. Besides, I like this kind of light-hearted show." Andy rolled his eyes at Carl and said unhappily.

"Haha, it should have been done a long time ago. You should increase your exposure. Well, after the show, you can sign a contract with Universal Music and release an album. Then, after "The Hunger Games" is published, you can release the album right after that, hype it up, and promote it everywhere. Wow, sales will definitely increase dramatically, and lovely US dollars will fly into our pockets!" Carl became more and more excited as he spoke. The fat on his face kept shaking, and his eyes shone with greed as he stared at Andy, as if Andy was a delicious piece of cheese that he wanted to swallow in one bite.

"Damn it! What Universal Music? You fat bastard, what did you do behind my back? Explain it to me! And you're still running around promoting it? Why don't you just go to hell!"

"Ah..." A scream came from the business car, and Andy grabbed Carl's neck and roared loudly.
