Chapter 166 Joe's POVThe run back to the palace feels like an eternity. My wolf clawed against my insides, urging me to move faster. Every stride through the cursed forest sent thorns ripping through my fur, but I barely felt them. Something's wrong. I can taste it in the air… fear. Her fear.
"Where is she?" I muttered under my breath, my voice gravelly even in wolf form. The closer I got , the stronger her scent became, faint, trembling, laced with blood and salt.
The palace gates came into view, dimly lit by big bulbs, and I didn't even bother to shift back before leaping over the wall. All the wall guards yelled, drawing their weapons, but I ran past them in a heartbeat, following her scent straight to the east wing, the prince's quarters.
I'm so close to his room, that's when I hear it.
A scream.
Then a thud.
Then…silence.
"Lily…". I gasp under my breath.
