Chapter 204 - Chapter 204. Rotom Fusion Method

Chapter 204. Rotom Fusion Method

Natsume stared in shock at the two Rotom that had merged into one.

In an instant, joy and another indescribable emotion surged up inside him.

Good news: it seemed Rotom's fusion didn't require him to devise a special method on his own; he could use the black mist to link Rotom inhabiting different machines together.

Bad news: didn't that make all the schematics he drew earlier a waste?

Natsume raised an eyebrow and circled the fused Rotom, examining it closely.

Because the Mewtwo Ball Rotom's body was larger, it had been propped up on the Motorcycle Rotom's neck like a big-headed doll, which looked absurdly comical.

And since Dragonite had yanked off its arms, the sense of dissonance was even stronger.

"Rotom, how do you feel?"

Natsume looked up and directly asked about Rotom's condition.

"Roto—" Rotom shook its head.

It felt absolutely awful, as if two forces were rampaging through its body.

"Two forces?"

After a moment's thought, Natsume used the system appraisal on Rotom.

[Electric + Psychic Fighting Psychic Fighting]

Rotom's typing was unstable.

Aside from the steady Electric type, its secondary type kept switching back and forth between Fighting and Psychic.

It looked like, after fusion, the different types would clash.

Natsume frowned.

Did he really have to build five Rotom with matching types?

Impossible.

That would run counter to his design.

Natsume lowered his head and looked at the stone slab in his hand.

This thing could even bear the mighty power of Divinity as a temporary vessel.

Helping Rotom temporarily store the power of one type shouldn't be hard, right?

Natsume tried guiding the half stone slab forward with telekinesis, slowly bringing it toward Rotom.

"Release a little black mist at this slab," Natsume instructed.

"Roto!"

This time, Rotom managed—with great effort—to release a faint puff of black mist.

The instant the black mist poured into the slab, the slab's dimming golden chains suddenly flared, shot out, and plunged into the Motorcycle Rotom's pitch-black chest.

The next second, the chain gave a tug, and the slab merged into the Motorcycle Rotom's body.

On Natsume's panel, Rotom's typing was still shifting.

[Electric + Fighting Psychic Dragon. Poison. Fighting]

What had been two rotating types became four rotating types.

"Poison + Dragon?"

Natsume understood at once.

Those were Eternatus's types.

When Rotom fused with a stone slab that had once stored Divinity, it seemed it could briefly gain the types housed within!

"Can you stabilize it?"

Natsume softened his voice and asked quietly.

Rotom dazedly nodded, as if searching for a method.

After a while, on the system appraisal, Rotom's typing settled.

[Electric + Fighting]

"Can you try switching types?" Natsume's eyes lit up, watching Rotom with anticipation.

Rotom nodded.

The next second, the type changed.

[Electric + Psychic]

Seeing this, Natsume grew excited, and before he could speak, Rotom changed types again.

[Electric + Poison]

[Electric + Dragon]

"Can you try multiple types at once?"

Natsume coaxed.

"Roto!" Rotom shook its head.

That thing inside its body—if it were bigger, if there were more of it—maybe it could give it a try.

Understanding Rotom's meaning, Natsume nodded slightly.

It seemed he would need to collect stone slabs of different types in the future.

And he also had to find a way to make these slabs better match the Motorcycle Rotom's chassis.

"In that case, for the mecha Rotom's torso, he could use the Motorcycle Rotom."

There was enough room in the torso to place more slabs.

By then, Natsume could absolutely forge a monster with both offense and defense maxed out across all matchups.

"Rotom, try moving around."

Natsume gave the order, but Rotom stood in place without moving at all.

"Rotom!"

Rotom shook its head.

"You're saying your mind feels clear, but your limbs feel weak?"

Natsume realized the motorcycle chassis was probably too shoddy.

"I understand."

He recalled the two Pokémon, stowed the slab away into the system space, walked out of the lake, and fixed his gaze on Eternatus's remains.

After a long moment, he pulled out a chainsaw.

"Rest in peace, rest in peace."

"If fate allows, I'll avenge you."

Natsume held the chainsaw across Eternatus's remains, then produced three sticks of incense from who-knew-where, lit them, and stuck them into a protruding crag.

"Vrrr—vrrr—vrrr—"

The chainsaw roared, sparks flying.

"Snap—"

The chain sprang off, and the saw broke.

"Wow, this black carapace really is insanely tough!"

Natsume stared in amazement at the section he'd tried to cut.

There wasn't even a single pale scratch on it!

"Hiss—looks like this is going to be troublesome."

Natsume frowned.

He'd planned to bring back some of Eternatus's shell as material to build the chassis for the "Miraidon Rotom."

But now, while the shell was indeed strong, he couldn't cut any of it at all!

What was worse, Eternatus's remains had been buried for so long that they'd fused with the surrounding rock layers.

Natsume couldn't even put the whole thing straight into the system space.

With no choice, Natsume could only pick up whatever small loose fragments he could find nearby.

The more he picked, the worse he felt.

He figured that the pieces shattered in that battle must have come from the thinner, weaker sections of Eternatus's shell.

The good stuff—the unbroken, high-quality sections—were all still on the corpse!

The prize was right in front of him, yet he couldn't get a bite; all he could do was settle for scraps.

Natsume felt conflicted.

He sat on one of Eternatus's protruding ribs, lifted his gloomy eyes, and stared at the cave ceiling.

Natsume wondered if he could go talk Professor Oak into giving up the survey here.

Otherwise, once the League intervened, if he wanted to get his hands on some Eternatus armor fragments, he'd probably have to wait until the League scholars finished their research.

Who knew how many years that would take!

Suddenly, Natsume's pupils shrank, and his eyes reflected the red crystal clusters on the cave ceiling.

Those masses of red crystals ran down the rock on that side, spread all the way to the lakebed, and finally crept quietly onto this side, connecting with Eternatus's remains.

A powerful concentration of Dynamax energy seemed to be contained within those clusters.

Natsume waved his hand, and a fist-sized cluster appeared in his palm.

Inside the crystal, countless veinlike strands branched out everywhere, swaying like liquid, as if they could flow.

He probed it with telekinesis and was amazed.

The Dynamax energy inside this thing far exceeded the Max Mushrooms Professor Oak had found on that mysterious island!

Most importantly, the Dynamax energy in this thing was sealed very neatly.

Natsume swept through it with telekinesis several times and found no sign of energy leakage at all.

"This stuff could probably serve directly as the Dynamax energy feed for a Kanto Power Spot."

"And if you smashed it and buried it straight into the soil, you could also grow a good number of Max Mushrooms."

In an instant, Natsume understood the strategic value of these red crystal clusters.

"Moreover, the giant Dragonite has a sizable fragment of Eternatus's Divinity in its body.

If I bring it here, it wouldn't even need to do anything.

Just standing here would keep these red crystal clusters growing!"

Natsume keenly noticed that the spot where he had pried off a cluster was slowly sprouting a new one, which looked like lingering power left by Eternatus.

A renewable resource—its strategic value just shot up even higher.

"Since it's renewable—"

Natsume rose slowly.

Behind him, hundreds upon hundreds of pickaxes floated up under his telekinesis, suspended in midair.

He was not going to be polite about this.
