Chapter 16 - Chapter 15 : Enrollment

When the Sun rised, Hayel left his house and decided to go to the city. He has decided to test his abilites and learn to fight.

'The only problem is…'

Everything is in black and white, making him feel like he is not actually awake.

'It's so weird… I feel like I don't know how far exactly things are when I don't see colors…and the people are… ugh it's so strange!'

Looking at another passerby, it seems like he can see a few seconds in the future and can see their movement in the present. The images overlap, making him feel disoriented.

You can see which ones in the present and which ones in the future, but the difference doesn't help much because Hayel is not used to it.

The only way Hayel figured out that he can see people's and objects movements in the future and the present is because of a few people that walked close enough to him so that he can 'see' them with his ability.

'I can't say that this is not extremely good but… that creature definitely does more things when I use my ability… I have to learn how to fight, at least then I will maybe have a chance to survive if those things decide it's time to kill me.'

Shivering at the thought of last night's events, Hayel makes his way towards the city. The fact that his ability is still focused makes him feel anxious.

Remembering to act like he breathes, Hayel steps into the city and goes to the Military Academy.

That's where abilites are also tested, aside from The Order's headquarters, and where people go to learn how to fight. Once you are done with three years of training and education, you can choose to work for the military academy as a teacher or you can go be a soldier in The Order, or a soldier for the royal bloodline, or you can go be an adventurer in The Hunter's guild.

'You can be both a teacher and a soldier, or a higher position, in The Order but you cannot be a teacher and a soldier for royalty or an adventurer… Seems like I at least know something.'

Hayel wonders who told him that, thinking that it was probably sir Kinnel, after all he is the one that gave him a little bit of education out of pity.

'At least I know how to read…'

The Military Academy is free for people with abilities, but if you don't have one then you have to pay to enroll.

Standing in front of a big building with huge open dark doors, Hayel mentally prepares himself and walks in. If he had a heartbeat, it would be pounding.

The front hall is not big but it's not small either, it's decorated with dark wood, dark furniture, big chandeliers and checkered floor. There aren't many people, but the ones that are here seem kind of intimidating to Hayel, except for the receptionist, who is quite short.

There are two soldiers by the entrance, making sure no one causes trouble.

'I would like to test my ability and enroll into the academy, I would like to test my ability and enroll into the academy…'

"Hello, what can I do for you?" the receptionist greeted him politely.

"I would like to test my ability and enroll into the academy," Hayel said with a polite tone too.

"Could you tell me your name?" The receptionist grabbed a pen.

"Hayel Bei."

"Okay, go towards the doors on your right and walk down the hallway until you see a door with a sign that says enrollment, knock on the doors and then you will have to wait until it's your turn," The receptionist explained, pointing his finger towards where Hayel has to go.

Hayel thanked him and awkwardly walked off towards the doors. Carefully checking every door while walking, he finds the one that says enrollment.

After knocking, Hayel hears a faint voice saying come in.

He walks inside the big room with couches lined againts the walls and a desk at the other end of the room where a woman sits.

Hayel walks up to her, and she asks him, "Name?"

"Hayel Bei."

The woman grabs a paper and starts writing his name on it, as well as in her book.

"Age?"

"15."

"From Mastaine?"

"Yes."

The woman looks at him and says, "Do you have an ability?"

"Yes but it wasn't tested."

She continues writing down the information, and after some time and a few more boring questions, she finally says, "Wait here until someone calls your name, you will first get your ability tested, then you will go through some paperwork for enrollment."

"Okay." Hayel goes to sit down a bit further away from other people, his anxiety growing stronger.

The woman that asked him questions went to knock on the door on her left, giving someone the paper she just wrote.

'What if they figure out that something is wrong with me?'

And after an hour that felt like an eternity, his name gets called.

"Hayel Bei?" A man walks out the same door and looks around the room.

Hayel gets up and walks towards him, the guy nods and urges with his hand for him to come in.

The room is small and almost empty, with only a desk and a chair in the corner and on the desk is a metal box.

Another guard stands inside the room next to the door, looking quite stern.

"So, you don't have to be nervous." The guy takes out some kind of a cryistal out of the metal box. "You will put your hand on this, and the crystal will glow a color indicating your rank. Simple right?"

'But I don't see colors right now…' Hayel almost laughs out loud, barely keeping his face from smiling like an idiot.

"Yes," Hayel finally says.

"Okay now, here." The guy hands him the cryistal, "Be careful not to drop it."

Relying on his 'sight' with his ability to take the crystal, Hayel assumes the crystal changed color by the fact that the grey color which he sees got a little darker.

He looked up at the guy who he doesn't know the name of, only to see his eyes wide opet.

"God…this…" The guy mumbles and Hayel is not sure what to expect.
